[Idea] A video series guide on eating healthy.

  • Thread starter Thread starter Bo
  • Start date Start date
Hey guys,

The first piece of the script [introduction] is done. Would like to have some feedback on it.

The Paleo Series.

Time: 5 minutes.

Introduction:

[Insert The Paleo Video series logo at start, max 30 seconds] [I still have to create a logo for it - but the priority is the script first]

[Begin intro – 1 minute]

For a very long time since history records, we the people have been suffering all kind of ailments and diseases. As a solution we have created pills and drugs to treat the symptoms of different diseases and not the source. So what exactly are the main sources of our pains that we suffer from daily, such as depression, headaches, allergies etc. ?

What could be done to clear the fog in our mind and body in order to be able to live life to its fullest?

Of course there are those who say that they are never sick and don’t have any ailments and can keep on doing and eating what they like. But when we look under the hood of our machine can we truly see that nothing is what it seems like.

Perhaps the solution to a life free from ailments and pain is to look at what we eat? Perhaps the answer, the solution lies right in front of us.

The Paleo Series will take you on an adventure to discover the truth about the food that we eat and what we can do to change our lives for the better.

[End intro]

[Insert pictures, data, facts about junk food combined with following text / or speech – Max 3 min] [Will be creating 2 test versions of the introduction, one with speech / green screen and one with only text]

Whenever we walk through the city or neighbourhood we see familiar signs like MacDonalds, KFC, and burger king to fill our bellies. Or when we are at home we will pick up a slice of bread and put some nutella, cheese or jam on it. Or we stop at a pizza restaurant to eat a couple of slices. And when we feel tired we drink a cup of coffee or when we go hang out of with friends, we indulge ourselves in alcohol. Currently the majority of people are eating foods or drinking beverages containing Gluten, Diary, artificial sweeteners, GMO meats etc.

And the problem is that most of us don’t know what we are eating or drinking and why. We just eat it. Maybe it’s time we start being aware with what we fuel our body with.

The Paleo Series will explain the science behind gluten, diary, artificial sweeteners, GMO foods and all that which is neccesarry to know in order to guide you to a healthier lifestyle. The lifestyle we were meant to have.

[Max time so far: 4:30/5:00 - End of introduction]

Hey Bo,

Really good introduction! I cleaned up the writing a little bit, but it covered the basic's of introducing the average person to, and poses some questions that the viewer can ponder. I thought of adding a bit about Cancer, Heart Disease, etc, but thought they are really big sacred cows and the idea that food could help prevent both could be introduced at a later time, when the viewer is more familiar and open to the ideas and may see the efficacy in it helping with headaches, depresion...

Also, I can help with editing and writing as well! I have some experience making powerpoint presentations, but will have to refamiliarize myself with the program a bit. In the meantine, I can work on doing a text for dairy, which I'll post in a few days.

The Paleo Series.

Time: 5 minutes.

Introduction:

[Insert The Paleo Video series logo at start, max 30 seconds] [I still have to create a logo for it - but the priority is the script first]

[Begin intro – 1 minute]

Since the beginning of recorded history, we, the people, have been suffering from all kinds of ailments and diseases. These chronic, persistent ailments have slowly been destroying our lives. As a solution, doctors and pharmaceutical companies have created pills and drugs to treat the symptoms of different diseases, but not the source. So what are the sources of our pains that we suffer from daily, such as depression, headaches, allergies, etc.

Also, what can be done about it? Can we clear the fog in our mind and body in order to live life to its fullest potential?

Of course there are those who believe themselves to be perfectly healthy because nothing catastrophic has happened to them yet. But when we aren’t paying attention to what we are consuming, can we truly say with certainty that underneath the hoods of our human machine, everything is in working order?

Perhaps the solution to a life free of ailments and pain is to look at what we eat. Perhaps the answer, the solution, lies right in front of us.

The Paleo Series will take you on an adventure to discover the truth about the foods we eat and what we can do to change our lives for the better.

[End intro]

[Insert pictures, data, facts about junk food combined with following text / or speech – Max 3 min] [Will be creating 2 test versions of the introduction, one with speech / green screen and one with only text]

Whenever we walk through our neighbourhoods, we go to places like McDonalds, KFC, and Burger King to fill our bellies. When at home, we pick up a slice of bread and put some nutella, cheese or jam on it. Or we stop at a pizza parlour to eat a few slices. When we feel tired, we drink a cup of coffee or latte to give us a boost. And when we hang out of with friends, we indulge ourselves in alcohol to escape the daily grind.

Currently, the majority of people are eating foods and drinking beverages that contain Gluten, Dairy, artificial sweeteners, most of which are genetically modified foods, GMO.

And the problem is that most of us don’t know what we are eating or drinking and why. We just eat it. Maybe it’s time to start being aware of what we fuel our body with.

The Paleo Series will explain the science behind gluten, dairy, artificial sweeteners, GMO foods and all that which is necessary to know in order to guide you to a healthier lifestyle. The lifestyle we were meant to have.

Also, I can help with editing and writing as well! I have some experience making powerpoint presentations, but will have to refamiliarize myself with the program a bit. In the meantine, I can work on doing a text for dairy, which I'll post in a few days.

Awesome Turgon! Thanks for the fix. When we have finished the script we can start brainstorming and working on the production/editing. Oxajil will be creating the gluten part. And since you are doing dairy, I will be writing about Artifical Sweeteners.

I will be saving all finalized scripts in one document so that at the end we will be having a nice overview.

I have also been thinking about the order of episodes/season. So the complete one will look like this(for now, so that you guys have an idea, any feedback is appreciated):

Episode 0: Introduction Of The Paleo Series - Season 1. (reminder: all episodes are 5 min)
Episode 1: Gluten.
Episode 2: Diary.
Episode 3: Artificial Sweeteners.
Episode 4: GMO Foods.
Episode 5. History - Our Paleo Ancestors.
Episode 6. Book - Primal Body - Primal Mind. Part 1 (Powerpoint presentation)
Episode 7. Book - Primal Body - Primal Mind. Part 2 (Powerpoint Presentation)
Episode 8. Book - Detoxify or Die. Part 1 (Powerpoint Presentation)
Episode 9. Book - Detoxify or Die. Part 2 (Powerpoint Presentation)
Episode 10. The Journey So Far. - A summary of Season 1.

That would mean that season 1 would eventually become a total of 50 min. If we can manage to create the entire script for the first season, then we can produce it. And brainstorm for the episodes of season 2 while working on season 1. If more people could help with writing the scripts, that would be really awesome.

Season 2

Episode 1: Introduction To The Paleo Diet

This is a very good idea in my opinion.
I haven't started the diet yet, so I'm a bit behind the knowledge in many areas of this specific topic. For some time it has been my desire to get started on it and this might be a good initiative for me. If I can contribute with anything, maybe minor things with design or editing I would be more than happy to do so.

Thanks, I will keep the thread updated when the times comes to edit.

It depends on how u wanna make this, but i can help u from music and sound effects side. I have also some experience in Adobe After Effect and Sony Vegas.

Thats cool, music and sound effects are very important, if you have any ideas let us know. But read the script first and think what kind of music or sounds would fit best. And it's great that you are familiar with After Effects and Sony Vegas, both are also my favourite editing sofwares :D

Do you think Soy should have it's own episode or could that be something that could fit into the GMO foods part?? Just because, the original diet changes on the forum was going gluten, dairy and soy free.

Also, here's an example of Peter Osborne's Powerpoint youtube videos that Ailen mentioned earlier. It's a basic layout, but if we can make the presentation more attractive and appealling, add in some music, animations, some mirthy moments, it could be a more entertaining and informative watch.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv5RwxYW8yA

*Edit* - Would each episode consist of alternative food choices within the 5 minutes? Because during the artificial sweetener text, for example, it would be great to introduce xylitol/stevia, etc, as alternatives, just so the viewer isn't left thinking 'Damn, so I can't eat so and so, what can I eat?!'

This would make each video stand apart on its own (and alter how we are writing the texts to a degree), just in case someone doesn't want to watch the entire series, osit.

We could talk about it in the GMO episode, and it will also be repeated during the books episodes. Also in Primal Body - Primal Mind, it is mentioned that Soy is the single most genetically modified crop there is, so it would be very nice to put it in the GMO episode.

Exactly, it is also what I was thinking about, for example I find him quite boring in the above video, so as you said we can use more animations, and music etc. Add more creativity , It will take a bit more effort, but I think it would be worth it.

This is an excellent suggestion, I didn't even thought about it. Maybe in the last minute we can talk about the alternatives. So 4 minutes about the subject and last 1 minute about alternatives for it.

Also the great thing about the book episodes is that we can go more in depth about the earlier episodes such as gluten, diary etc. So if somehow we see that we couldn't say enough in 4 minutens about gluten for example, we can use the book episodes to go more in depth about them by using the book itself.

Are you thinking of a hosted program?

I'm liking the 10 episode, 5 minute a piece guideline and looking forward to help out with animations/ graphics.

Nope, everything will go on YouTube and so eventually we would have to create a YouTube channel and upload the videos there. If I create 2 test versions and post a private link here, maybe we can see what the best way is of presenting the videos. Someone talking and presenting(with all the music, animations etc) or just text on screen(with all the music, animations etc.) But we can brainstorm on the best way to present the videos visually after the script is done.

Thanks for offering help with animations and graphics :D :cool2:

Soy, by itself, without the GMO thing, is detrimental to our health. There's quite a few articles on SOTT that point this out. Maybe it should have a spot by itself, or mixed in with other items, such as corn?

Hmm good idea, I mixed SOY and CORN together, and in the GMO episode, soy can be mentioned again.

Episode list version 3.0

Episode 0: Introduction Of The Paleo Series - Season 1. (reminder: all episodes are 5 min)
Episode 1: Gluten.
Episode 2: Diary.
Episode 3: Artificial Sweeteners.
Episode 4: Soy & Corn.
Episode 5: GMO Foods.
Episode 6. History - Our Paleo Ancestors.
Episode 7. Book - Primal Body - Primal Mind. Part 1 (Powerpoint presentation)
Episode 8. Book - Primal Body - Primal Mind. Part 2 (Powerpoint Presentation)
Episode 9. Quiz Time ( a fun game to check if everyone is paying attention so far! :P)
Episode 10. The Journey So Far. - A summary of Season 1.

The review of detoxify or die will be moved to season 2 then.

I also finished the script for Artifical Sweeteners. (any feedback on it appreciated.)

Artificial sweeteners.

[intro 1 min]

Artificial sweeteners are supposed to replicate real sugars. So we can say it is made to basically fool and manipulate our body and mind. But is it a correct way of nutrition for our body? And is sugar REALLY necessary at all(Note: this can be told later on in the series when the focus starts on the paleo diet) And what can we use as a healthy alternative?

The following are the most known artificial sweeteners among the public

aspartame.
sucralose.
neotame.
saccharin.

[end intro]

A lot of research has been released about the dangers of artificial sweeteners and how they affects us: See for example the following:

[ Post certain articles and video clips of the dangers of artificial sweeteners(also show in what products these sweeteners are usually found) – Max 2 min]

Looking at all the data and research that we can read on these artificial sweeteners we can with certainty say that it is very harmful for our bodies and that we should avoid all products with artificial sweeteners. But so many of us have become so addicted to sugars that there surely must be a healthier alternative to help us fight this addiction?

[Alternative – 2 min]

And yes, there are healthier alternatives, these are stevia and xylitol.

[combine the following with articles and pictures, included benefits]

So what is stevia? Stevia is a herbaceous family of plants that grow in sub-tropical and tropical America. And you will see for yourself that you will come across stevia in powdered or liquid extract form when searching for it online.

And there is Xylitol,

[combine the following with articles and pictures, included benefits]

Xylithol is an-all natural sweetener found in many fruits and vegetables. It tastes and looks like sugar. However one thing to keep in mind is that some people get an upset stomach from xylithol, so it’s best to first try it with small quantities and see how you respond to it.

So next time you want to buy anything with artificial sweeteners, remember the danger it can cause to your body.

---------------------------------------------------------

Next I will be writing the script for Soy & Corn and GMO Foods.

Turgon, how is the script on Diary going? :cool2:

Episode 3: Artificial Sweeteners.
Episode 4: Soy & Corn.
Episode 5: GMO Foods.
Episode 6. History - Our Paleo Ancestors.
Episode 7. Book - Primal Body - Primal Mind. Part 1 (Powerpoint presentation)
Episode 8. Book - Primal Body - Primal Mind. Part 2 (Powerpoint Presentation)
Episode 9. Quiz Time ( a fun game to check if everyone is paying attention so far! )

Hey Bo,

Bo said:
Turgon, how is the script on Diary going?

Dairy is complete. ;)

After going over your artificial sweeteners portion, I'm thinking I should have typed less and given room for showing articles and images. But I'll post what I have already written right now to see if that's the case, first. Also, if anything need's to be added or taken out, feedback is most welcome!

DAIRY

(Insert Jaws type music?) There’s that familiar sound of something dangerous coming your way. Although you may be innocently frolicking away, eating that ice cream or cheese, or diligently drinking that glass of milk because the U.S food pyramid tells you it’s the best source of calcium and ‘Does a Body Good’!

It still doesn’t change the fact that something is coming after you from the depths of your stomach, and you probably won’t notice it until it’s too late.

And never mind the fact that Government Dietary recommendations don’t reflect what we need to maintain great health as much as it reflects corporate interests.

When most people think dairy intolerant, they think lactose intolerant. And what is lactose? It’s simply a type of sugar that’s derived from milk products. However, some people don’t have the ability to digest the lactose properly, resulting in bloating, cramps, diarrhea, gas and nausea. Not pleasant!

Although, products like tums have been created to deal with the stomach upsets that occur for people who are intolerant, what these products ultimately do is alkalize, opposite of acidify, if you still remember chemistry in high school, the stomach, causing the stomach to stop digesting the foods altogether!

This SEEMS like a good idea at first glance, no more cramps or bloating, but stomach acids are what break down food allowing all the essential vitamins and nutrients to be transported to your cells and organs, so you can think and feel at your best. Neutralizing this natural process is only masking the fact you probably shouldn’t be eating the stuff.

But, that isn’t even the shark in the water. That belongs to casein. A rarely talked about milk protein that gives cheese and milk that gooey, stickiness to it. Your probably thinking protein is good for us. And it is! But casein acts like a narcotic, causing you to feel good for a while, but like other drugs, can have some nasty side-effects like joint pain and stiffness and reduction in bone density. It’s even been linked to autism, schizophrenia, diabetes and heart disease. Yikes!

You don’t even know it has you until it’s too late!

Also, there are more messages going from your gut to your brain, than your brain to your gut. So if your stomach is in knots from what you are eating, imagine the signal’s that sends to your brain and how your mood is affected by that.

But wait, there’s more! There is the use of growth hormones like rBGH that increase milk production in cows seven fold, increased bacteria and mucus caused from Factory Farming practices, and the fact that we are the only species that drink the milk of another animal! Milk is for babies. Breast milk, that is.

There are other ways of getting calcium, and some delicious substitutes. For one, butter has very little traces of casein and lactose, and ghee has none! So you can indulge in those as much as you want. Also, dried herbs, brazil nuts, almonds, flax seeds and green leafy vegetables are really high in calcium.

And if you are looking for a direct substitute for milk, you can always try coconut milk, almond milk, or goat’s milk, which does contain some lactose and casein, but in lower amounts.

Hey Bo and others,

Maybe someone else can take the gluten part? Right now I don't have the time so much to do that. :-[

Turgon, maybe you can also add a sentence or two about the opiates being present in milk? Maybe you can also put something on bone broth being a better solution for healthy bones, as it contains a balanced amount of minerals (including calcium) needed for the body? Also, the problem in the world today is too much calcium and way too little of other minerals/nutrients, leading to all kinds of diseases, interestingly one of them being osteoporosis. Here is a link with some interesting info: _http://www.4.waisays.com/ExcessiveCalcium.htm

Not sure if you can fit all that in 5 minutes, but maybe they're some points you can think about?

Actually it's better if Bone broth gets introduced later, in season 2 or so when the paleo diet gets introduced, as it has to get some focus, like preparation, the cooking etc. I think it's important for people to get the basics first and and then move on to more advanced stuff later on. For example later on in the series more can be written about certain illnesses and disorders and how they are linked with dairy, gluten etc.

Perhaps you could mention the wheelings and dealings of food industries and their processed food products. Also sodium fluoride as in processed salt!

Hey Bo, if you are doing Soy & Corn and GMO foods on top of gluten, I could take on GMO foods, if that's alright? I'm thinking if we can get the first 5 episodes scripts down pat, refine them if need be so that it follows a cogent line of thought, then we can move on to the next 5 episodes scripts.

I agree about saving bone broth for later. But I'll edit the script a bit, add in a bit about opioids and read the link about osteoporosis and see if I can fit that in as well.
