Very big EQ. Tsunami wave is said to be 10 m high. I wonder if this is somehow related to the big CME from 2 days ago, although it was seemingly missing the earth.

Hawaii and West Coast N.America/Pacific Rim coastal tsunami watch alerts. Hawaii time for 2:59AM or thereabouts wave action. Tsunamis travel as fast as jet planes...5 hours from Hawaii to U.S. mainland. Reports state Mexican coast may have higher and stronger wave than U.S. if it manifests.

TOKYO (AFP) - A fire broke out in the turbine building of Onagawa nuclear plant in Miyagi Prefecture on Friday, Kyodo News reported, after an 8.9-magnitude earthquake struck Japan and triggered a huge tsunami.

It was not immediately clear if there was a risk of a radioactive leak as a result of the fire at the plant operated by Tohoku Electric Power. Miyagi prefecture was one of the areas worst hit by the tsunami.

Kyodo also reported that an emergency core-cooling unit had been activated at Fukushima nuclear plant, without giving further details.

Earlier Friday Prime Minister Naoto Kan had said no radiation leaks have been detected from Japan's nuclear power stations after the massive quake struck the country.

Four Japanese nuclear power plants closest to the epicentre of the quake have been safely shut down, the UN atomic watchdog said Friday.
The quake struck just under 400 kilometres (250 miles) northeast of Tokyo, the US Geological Survey said. It was followed by more than a dozen aftershocks, one as strong as 7.1.

Some warnings are too much: All persons within Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant #1 are asked to evacuate, loss of coolant

"Electric power to coolant pumps has failed, please get out of the area before nuclear emissions are released. Not sure I ever wanted to see that warning light up on TV & Other media. "

1237: Japanese authorities are urging some 2,000 residents living within a 2km radius of a nuclear plant in Fukushima to evacuate, the AFP reports. The plant has been shut down after its cooling system failed.

OMG, last night I had a dream of large, violent waters like the rapids on a river, only to wake up to news of this tsunami. :O

the tsunami is suppose to reach Hawaii in about 30 - 40 minutes from now. And then the coast of california about 2-3 hours later. I'm only a few hundred feet from the ocean, maybe I will get to see something from my roof. I doubt it, but if I don't go to bed before then, I'll be watching...

Police have found "200-300 bodies" in northeastern coastal city of Sendai:

I hope those in Hawaii and Western Coastal are taking it higher ground and be careful.

I had a dream a few nights ago of a river suddenly rising (3 meters in 10 seconds) and engulfing traffic on roads either side. After it receded I could see smashed boats etc and was talking to others about how the water was travelling at 60-70mph.

Rather than 'doubt it', it may be wise to 'pay attention'? Wishful thinking is dangerous....

have you seen the video of the whirlpool?

edit: don't pay attention to the silly comments from the journalist (always bringing the global warming nonsense into the picture).

I just saw it on tv, it is very strange. I didn't have tsunamis dreams recently, I had them several months ago, but it could be related to different events, I don't know. What I had in the last EE was a short mild or slightly strong pain in the right shoulder, only for a couple of seconds and then it went away.

I wonder if this quake event could have something to do with the aproaching of the supermoon, or the many comets and asteroids passing nearby lately, or a combination of both.

Glad you are ok there in Japan, take care. I hope the nuclear installations are not touched, that would worsen things a lot.
