Learning to Walk

Hi Stevie, in the interest of giving you some idea of how you come across, I'm going to point some things out here...

I have to agree with Mrs tigersoap's.

Mrs. Tigersoap's what? You wrote 'tigersoap's' which is possessive, so it should be followed by something. I guess you mean 'post' but without you writing it out, there is no way to know.

I have no earthly idea what you mean by this.

art in the eye of the beholder, lacks.

I have no idea what you mean by 'lacks' here.

my little brother is about to get his doctorate in arts and somethin else, cant think of it right now but he started a site that expanded of course !;)

It's really unfortunate that you don't take enough interest in your brother to even know in what subject he is about to get his PhD. As far as the second part of the sentence, I'm not sure what you mean by 'of course'.

_www.avant-garde.com, i dont think thats his site, but his site uses the actual english words- avant garde.

If it's not his site, then why in the world would you link it on the forum? This makes no sense.

sj said:
looks as if he, has done well, that site is not "ALL" his, i dont think, mostly his 'theme' how do u say, 'influence' -

no - 'project' would be better said.

Again, this makes little sense.

Scotty want's to go to 'L.A' to 'top-off' his thesis, ' for a complete conclusion'. He may loose his fiance`,(longtimegirl) but he ventures, as we all do.

I can only assume you're talking about your brother here, though, I admit I have absolutely no idea why. Why is what your brother is or is not doing, much less with his longtimegirl, relevant to this thread?

sj said:
Scott is UOFA not Miami, im not sure if he held or sold his domain. sorry, but Avant garde is a term he used for one of his site's.

Why is this relevant?

we dont talk much kuz, im an axxhole, and dad say's to leave him alone.

From this post, I'm inclined to agree with your dad - though I admit I don't actually have enough data to make that determination, since considering your condition, your dad may or may not be part of the problem.

Stevie, if you're drinking while posting on the forum, it's really not a good idea unless you can drink and still think clearly and post relevant information. If you're not drinking and just not thinking very clearly, then it would be appreciated if you re-read your posts before submitting them since what you've written here is really, truly, difficult to understand.

Hopefully this helps you understand how this post came across - I truly don't mean any offense, but since this isn't the first post that has come across this way, I thought you should know. fwiw.

All I can think of looking at the picture of these new 'barefoot shoes' is wearing them with brightly colored toe socks. I'm sure they are to be worn without socks, but I can't help thinking of folks running round in stripy toe socks inside them.

Those are the latest rave in the specialty shoe stores where I live - haven't considered trying them, but they are certainly eye catching when you see them in the store - seem to get a lot of attention as well.

I wonder how thick the bottom is on it? Those look interesting, but if one were to step on a rock while running outside, you'd hope that their would be a little protection from that. Either way, if I had my druthers I would be able to walk and run barefoot all the time, but factors such as weather and lack of protection do not allow it.

Very interesting topic! After a little search, i found a lot of info on the "bare foot running" concept and the whole thing seems to make a lot of sense. I also found a picture showing the Vibram shoes from underneath.

There are also other "bare foot running" shoes, check http://barefootrunningshoes.org

Thank you!

I hope I got the quoting right. I have these shoes/footwear. You can wear your toe sock with them! but it it not recommended because they already fit like a glove, and it might be too tight with toe socks on. I bought them to experiment on my experiment that I have been looking into for a little over a year now. I originally bought them to harden my feet, free movement in the feet, and increase my balance (and the results after approx. 2 months of use is amazing, of course I had low standards to begin with). I agree with the original article about walking right for body posture. I also agree and have always suspected that humans, like animals, were born without socks or shoes to protect their feet from our environment. BUT only through living a barefoot live style would we be comfortable going barefoot in our environment. Since we have been in socks and shoes most of our lives, we have to retrain ourselves to be able to live barefoot. I got blisters, aches, and pain from breaking in the Vibram Five Fingers, which you are suppose to do for 1 hour a day I think. I m young, and I run in them for couple miles, so it would seem i accelerated the pain and punishment of going barefoot again rather quickly.

I want to digress and point out that my experiment can answer all the questions about the human muscular, tendon, and joint systems that I was about to post tonight, but I found and skimmed this thread instead. I would like to come back and link this to my thread, but I m probably too lazy to come back and do as such. But please just search it up if your interested.

I'm thinking about making some Huaraches (they are similar to sandles many native populations wear). We have a lot of prickly grass around here, and no matter how much I run or walk around barefoot, I can't do much walking around in the yard, and flip-flops annoy me!

If you are interested, here is a tuturial and more information about them. Seems much cheaper to make rather than spending the big bucks on 'feet shoes.' :)

Barefooting (flat feet)

I've often considered myself to be constructed with a bunch of used parts. I have big flat feet, big ears, poor vision, hunched posture, large nose, and I'm quite skinny to boot. I found that changing shoes made a huge difference in comfort for my flat feet and improved or degraded my posture depending on the shoe. Any new shoes I bought were always painful where my arch was supposed to be. For those of you with a nice arch, normal shoes are like walking around with a rock shoved in the arch. It typically takes a couple weeks of pain to break in a pair of new shoes

So I did some research on shoes and found that Vibram had come out with "feet" shoes (www.vibramfivefingers.com). No arch support! I had to try some! I have to say that I cannot keep them off of my feet now. I wear them constantly due to the comfort level. Not only have they triggered muscles in my calves that I rarely used, I also don't get cramps in my feet with extended use and, I tend to walk more upright when wearing them. Many people have also described lessening of lower back issues but of course I cannot verify nor promote such health changes myself.

This blog (http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2009/05/07/vibram-five-fingers-shoes/) talks more in depth on the shoes and how he converted to using them.

For me this just adds another piece to utilizing my body properly (how it is meant to be). I'd love to hear if others are using these "shoes".
