Which reminds of me of one of my favorite French pejoratives "sombre cretin." As far as I can tell, it is like a dim person who can not communicate very clearly.

But we could try a rating system... I am thinking at the moment of the news blurb section I saw in the old Earth First newspapers. They had, instead of say a 5-star rating system, a wolves vs. poodles rating system. For example, for a rousing piece of news about some inspiring activism they might say "And 3 majestic wolves howling at the moon for bla bla bla" or for some crap piece of news about some legal harassment of some activists they might say "And 2 neurotic, yapping at your heels poodles for bla bla bla"

So to lighten the air after some "sombre cretin" shows up, we could have a rating system for good replies to them and for the cretins themselves. I am not sure at the moment what our wolves and poodles would be.

Although 'disinfected' or 'sent to the naughty corner' might do just as well :P

All of this reminds me of Atreides' thread Before you Troll.

There was an old star trek episode with Capt. Kirk, Spock and the gang called Day of the Dove. In the episode the crew of the enterprise and the crew of a klingon ship are trapped by a malevolent alien energy being that feeds off of violence and conflict. It heals their wounds and encourages them to hate each other and fight. At the end of the episode Kirk realizes what is going on, so he convinces the Klingon leader, Kang, that they should try to get along. They start joking with each other and laughing at the alien being. The alien grows weaker and weaker and finally leaves the ship.

Is it that easy with these trolls?

I rather like "cast into the outer darkness", but it is kind of long.

Sotterized sounds kind of violent :O

How about put in time out, or laughed off the ship? :P

I wonder if we can come up with a different jokey way to refer to those who have been cast into outer darkness from sott?

Lol. I wondered about that word "heathen" too as I read it for the first time

Theres also pwned, as in owned, slang from computer game world.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pwned said:
A corruption of the word "Owned." This originated in an online game called Warcraft, where a map designer misspelled "owned." When the computer beat a player, it was supposed to say, so-and-so "has been owned."

Instead, it said, so-and-so "has been pwned."

It basically means "to own" or to be dominated by an opponent or situation, especially by some god-like or computer-like force.

"Man, I rock at my job, but I still got a bad evaluation. I was pwned."

OR

"That team totally pwned us."

Sott and this forum aren't exactly into "owning" or "dominating" anyone, but it would probably be something lots of trolls would understand.

I like 'sombre cretin' used with downsized or banned--it has a nice touch to it as in, 'this is a sombre cretin who has been downsized!'
or... :ban:

I'm amazed nobody came up yet with the classical phrase 'ostracized' - possibly embellished into 'ostricized' as in ostrich: head under the sand, put back to sleep.

Other possibilities: 'streaked'. Or 'unmasked'. Or 'entlarved' (from the German word 'entlarven' - to unmask). Or 'zoned out/cast out'. Or just 'stamped' (as in labelled).

I was going with Webster's 9th edition, connotative, 2nd definition of "cretin" for cretinized:

2: a stupid, vulgar, or insensitive person: CLOD, LOUT as I certainly do not want to implicate any persons who are simply of diminished mental capacity but may be good of heart and intentions. Hmmmm--interesting how exploring this idea of finding a humorous word to slap onto troublemaking trolls gets into recognizing the power of wit, humor and sarcasm to function as "weapons."

I like "sunshined" myself....as in "sunshine is the best disinfectant.

Ex: He needed a little sunshine, buh bye..... They've all been sunshined. My, we need to bring in some sunshine for _______. I think a smiley sun would be fantastic. (with or without complementary magnifying glass)

I LIKE poodles. How about chihuahuas?

Actually most dogs have a positive image with somebody here. We could just leave open a 5-something rating and be as poetic as possible. Examples:

There is a really persistent and head-in-the-clouds new ager who gets himself banned. So after the banning somebody writes,

"3 read-once copies of 'The Celestine Prophecies' to that insipid and uninspiring monologue"

Or on the other side of it, there is some type of troll who gets really concisely and brilliantly sussed out by a forum member, so someone writes,

"Way to go, Forum Member! Your brilliant analysis easily merits 4-extra-long-Gurdjieffian-mustaches "
