Lost a dear friend today

So sorry for the loss of your dear friend. Glad you were able to be there for the transition.

Thanks again to everyone for their sentiments and support. It has meant a lot to me! It really brings home just how much we all care for each other here and how one person's pain is the pain of all and the accomplishments of all of us are felt be each of us.

Tuesday night two of my daughters and myself took Shayna's body to the local vet's office in a towel, along with our other dog Blaze. We were escorted into one of the examining rooms where we placed her body on the examination table. We then all said our goodbys, along with Blaze who we lifted up to see her. She did put a paw on her for several seconds, and that seemed to be her way of seeing her off.

We have pretty much gotten over the shock of losing her so suddenly and are now feeling for the most part 'OK'. Our other dog, Blaze, seems to have taken this pretty much in stride, but as she is used to having constant companionship, we are trying to have someone with her as much as possible.

The POTS that night seemed especially meaningful and very calming! I feel that doing the EE program has helped tremendously to feel my emotions rather than bottling them up or burying them which would only allow them to fester in the background and cause problems later. Now, they seem to be 'done with' and I can get back to doing things which really are important. Not to say I won't miss her, but it is no longer 'painful' and I seem to be left with mostly just fond memories!

There were also several time when I could feel her somewhere close around me. I can't be sure it was really her, but if it was, it seemed that since we were so very close that she was trying to tell me she was just fine and not to worry. I will go with that even if there is no way to really prove it.

Shayna was an about 12 years old Shepherd mix dog. She was really sweet and intelligent and gave us all a lot of love. The entire family is heartbroken at her loss. She had been 'out of sorts' for about the last week, but we could not find anything obviously wrong with her. Today, in the late afternoon, she began breathing very heavily and loudly. I sat down beside her and comforted her the best I could. She was aware I was there and even gave my hand a couple of kisses. She was definitely very comforted that I was with her and calmed down very much. Soon after she stopped breathing.

We will all miss her.

Bless her soul, I'm sure you gave your 2D friend a very lovely life living with you and your family.

My condolences and heart go out to you Richard S. Pets can be just as much part of ones life as any human can. Time will pass and wounds may lighten. She can live on within your memories. After years pass, I still miss my pets and wonder about their potential graduation to 3D. Never say never...

Richard, my condolences for your loss. :flowers:

A DOG:

"Tis pity not to have a dog, for at the long day's end,
The man or boy will know the joy, Of welcome from a friend.

And whether he be rich or poor, Or much of little bring,
The dog will mark his step and bark, As if he were a King.

Though gossips whisper now and then, Of faults they plainly see,
And some may sneer, from year to year, My dog stays true to me.

He's glad to follow where I go, And though I win or fail,
His love for me he'll let me see, By the wagging of his tail.

Now if I were to list the friends Of mine in smiles and tears,
how through and through are staunch and and true, And constant down the years,

In spite of all my many faults, Which critics catalog,
Deserving blame, I'd have to name My ever-faithful dog.

"Tis pity not to have a dog, Whatever be his breed,
for Dogs possess a faithfulness, Which humans sadly need.
And whether skys be blue or gray, Good luck or ill Attend,
Man's toil by day, a dog will stay,

His ever-constant friend.......

Write Your Own Dog Poetry

Writing your own poetry may be the best way to pay tribute to your pet. You know, better than anyone else, what your dog meant to you. Writing poetry doesn't have to be difficult, and it certainly doesn't have to rhyme. Forget anything you think you know about writing poetry and just sit down and write what is in your heart. Poems can be short and sweet, or long and involved. Once you have completed your poem, you may do one or several of the following:

* Choose to have all or part of it engraved on your dog's tombstone
* Upload the poem on a pet memorial Web site
* Enter it in a pet poetry contest online
* Keep in along with your other private papers

Whatever you choose to do with your pet poem will be fine by your pet. Animals, while they are alive, know how well we have kept them. Let the poem be a simple remembrance of the time the two of you have shared on earth.

Dear Richard S, my condolonces. In spirit of your friend, I wrote you this poem:

A true friend who came and went,
but chose to never leave the heart, home.
Living endlessly in character,
in the memories we chose to cherish.
Our separate journeys continue,
and once, as eternity permits,
we will meet again. And rejoice.
We would feel like we never even left each other.
And maybe we didn't.

Goodbye, my friend, for now.

That is beautiful.

Just got around to uploading a picture of Shayna to Photobucket so I could share it with you all.
I think she is doing just fine, and I am too - thanks again to all who have helped in such a loving way!
