Animated view of the 14 099 asteroids in our Solar System, as viewed by ESA's Gaia satellite using information from the mission's second data release.

The orbits of the 200 brightest asteroids are also shown, as determined using Gaia data. In future data releases, Gaia will also provide asteroid spectra and enable a complete characterisation of the asteroid belt.

The combination of dynamical and physical information that is being collected by Gaia provides an unprecedented opportunity to improve our understanding of the origin and the evolution of the Solar System.

Looks like fireballs are picking up the pace.
A 'large meteor' exploded over Siberia causing 'panic' to witnesses in a major city who feared they had seen a plane on fire.

The space rock incursion visible from Krasnoyarsk in daylight was described as 'bright and noisy with a long sparkling green and yellow tail'.

It was the third major meteor or meteorite event registered over Siberia in four months - and was followed around six hours later by an another 'exploding meteor' further west in Samara.

Something wicked seems to be very close now, considering recent uptake in fireball reports.
