Near-Earth objects and close calls

A bright fireball appeared just now! This is a view of the fireball that flowed at 18:08:28 on October 10, 2022, as captured by a wide-angle camera pointed at the eastern sky from my home in Hiratsuka, Japan. It exploded brightly at the end and left a meteor trail. It was a scattered meteor. The bright star in the lower right is Jupiter. (T.Deepl)

Another bright fireball was seen tonight! This is a wide-angle camera view of the fireball that flowed at 18:16:37 on October 11, 2022, pointed at the northern sky from Fuji. It was a very long path fireball and continued to glow for over 10 seconds. It was a scattered meteor.

It fell with a ground speed of 15.4 km/s and an entry angle of 12.5 degrees, and drifted over 150 km above the area between Chiba and Saitama prefectures. It was not related to yesterday's fireball, but came from the asteroid belt. The disappearance point altitude is high, and there seems to be no possibility of meteorite fall.

FWIW, from the European Space Agency;

FWIW, from the European Space Agency;

"our ability to detect potentially risky asteroids is rapidly improving."

But of course this cannot be-never-about the growing numbers; they could at least have the courage and/or humility to present things in both ways, or could they not? :evil:

“As this new 30 000 detection milestone shows, and as new telescopes and methods of detection are built, it’s only a matter of time until we’ve found them all.”

:lol: Good luck with that!

This meteor activity is definitely getting hotter.
Just this month my wife and I saw THREE flying across the sky while driving through Shreveport LA mid city (lots of light pollution, we live in the country). And all three of them flew so low and were as bright as an jetliner’s lights landing. It looked like tracer rounds being fired through the sky. I used to be amazed by them before this forum and now I get snapped into this “oh yea, we are about to get wrecked and we don’t know when” awareness every time I see them. 🤪

Meteorite explodes over Cadiz, Spain, literally turning into daylight for a few seconds

Meteor seen over Cadiz, Spain, this Friday, October 14, 2022.

A huge meteorite flew over the sky of Andalucia on Friday night at 20:45 local time. Many people witnessed the large fireball disintegrating in the sky over Spain.

The meteorite was highly noticeable in Andalucia and was also seen in Madrid as well as in Castilla-La Mancha and Murcia with a loud boom turning night into day.
