New Forum layout April 2018

I was absent and today i find new design face in the forum.Since i am very stupid with technologies i am a bit lost.Just patience little by little a will go into.Probably is very easy to dealt with.

The cassiopaea forum look transformed, good looking, smooth, fast. I just noticed that my previous bookmarks of certain topics or threads to read further are not opening. Should i have to research those topics again and bookmark them?

Old forum URLs are working again. For example:

Code:
https://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=27

https://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php/board,7.0.html

https://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php/topic,43343.0.html

https://cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php/topic,43343.msg695325.html#msg695325

https://cassiopaea.org/forum/avs/avatar_537.png

So, if you have old links bookmarked in your browser, or if posts are linked to within other forum posts, they should work again.

Note that old links to a particular page of a board or topic takes you to page 1. Close enough!

I would be nice if we have some darker style also. It is better for my eyes. Not totally back. Some combination of different gray colors. That would be more easy for the eyes. I have set a dark gray background on Adobe reader when reading a book in PDF. It is much better than reading against a white or totally black background

Same with me. My preferred style on the "old" forum was something called "Night". This old style helped my eyes to read better.

Whoa this is awesome! Thanks Scottie and team for all the hard work, we are bleeding edge now! It's funny I found myself often wishing I could "like" a post then remembered this isn't FB, but I also didn't necessarily have anything to add to warrant a reply either. The struggle is real!

So doing a test.. quoting a post that already had a nested quote in it. It no longer double (and triple etc) nests quotes, but you can click the little arrows to go to the quoted posts.

Now testing manually nesting quotes anyway just to see if it's possible:

Hardly anyone on the old forum used the other color schemes. I've already had 1 request for Green, so I'm recording # of requests for different colors. Depending on demand and number of Gold Stars in Heaven, more colors may be coming... later!

So yeah it's doable but kinda a pain right now, cuz it doesn't copy the text of the double-nested quote automatically so I had to scroll up and manually copy Scottie's post to include in the double nest. So it won't be as easy to include all the context you're replying to within your post, but maybe that's for the best? It will make posts cleaner and there's little arrows that can always show you the context anyway.

Love the new look! Very excited to check out all the new features.

pretty sure those are search engine crawlers.

You just go to the cassiopaea.org home site. Might be easier to just make that a bookmark in your browser.

Thank you!

Then I'll add a request for the purple color scheme, if possible...

This is very helpful scottie, many many thanks!

Yea, mine too! So count my vote for that as well :-)

But otherwise, very cool upgrade!

I think there's still some quirks. When I go to What's New > New Posts > Filters > Threads in which you've participated (uncheck Unread Threads) I only see this thread.

The other one too.. go to Forums > Find Threads > Threads with your posts - also only see this one. But if I click on my profile I can see the message/post history.

Also.. trophies! We have "achievements" :D

I am joining that request! As it was a darker style, it was smoother on the eyes for me either.

Ok, here's one thing I'm trying to figure out, maybe someone knows. Previously there was a setting that sent email notifications for topics you started or had posted in. Were those also migrated or would we need to go back and 'watch' those topics again to get emails for notifications in a given thread?

One thing I did, was in account -> preferences was to check off:

Automatically watch content you create...
...and receive email notifications

Automatically watch content you interact with…
...and receive email notifications

So it seems like going forward, that will be similar to the old settings.

At the top under "find threads" (using the drop down menu) there is: "your threads" "threads with your posts" and "unanswered threads"

So far other than the filter and the above method I think there is no history carried over so you can't keep track of previously posted replies from the old forum.

I used the "Show new replies to your posts" a lot to not miss any new developments in threads I participated in.

I know there was and still are a lot of things to adjust and I appreciate all the effort it took to switch. I don't know how difficult it may be to transfer that data or if it is even possible in the new version. I do like many of the new features though. As the Beatles song says "We can work it out".:-)

Thanks Scottie and team.
