To test how this new search engine which works architecturally works differently than google ( http://www.sott.net/articles/show/163001-Former-Googleers-unveil-Cuil-a-new-search-engine), I typed sott on both sites and results are not suprising in one sense , they are twisted as already proved. But sott articles comes more prominently in Cuil results than in google.

SOTT

cuil brings 6 and google brings 4

Well, I tried it and LOVE it! Finally, a search engine that does what it is supposed to do! Amazing.

Spread the word and make sure you add it to firefox. I'll never use g**gle again!!!

A much friendlier "look & feel" where the results are being displayed - columns. The little thumbnail pictures was also a good idea, and the more copy regarding a website's content is clever.

I hope they don't delay too long with the little extra goodies that Google has, like iGoogle's themed pages, Google alerts, Google images and Google News.

Cuil is not yet very good in German. I tried a number of search words. Quality of results seems to vary a lot. If I enter a simple search for local weather the result looks as if my searchword was abducted by evil aliens and heavily mistreated.

The only feature I use that I cant find anywere else is google-images, their image search engine.

Anyone knows of a better or equal alternative?

Also another pretty good (non-g**gle) alternative search engine is _http://www.ask.com, both for web pages and pictures, which also features an interesting "Q&A"-like search section...

:)

Nice grouping of related info on my first couple of searches. I'll run with it for awhile  Thanks for the link!

Just so you know ask.com is one of Googles biggest partners.

I think I will stick to Google as Firefox is pretty good in filtering out the nasties.

G**gle searches suppressing the word "truth"?

I apologise in advance if someone has already covered this particular topic, but today I was doing a G**gle search, where the search string was something like "truth about psychiatry fraud" (without the quotes) or a very similar string; the important thing is I included the word "truth". I was trying to find some information about the psychiatry industry, and I have found from past experience that including the word "truth" into Google often brings up useful webpages that try to expose certain things, as opposed to webpages that are more "encyclopedic" in nature.

On this particular occasion, however, I found it most odd that at the bottom of the first G**gle results page, was a little note saying, The word "truth" was omitted from your search or something very similar to that. It then gave the option to repeat the search with the word "truth" in it. I found this all very odd because the note was quite small and inconspicuous, and also the first set of results didn't really bring up the kind of pages I was looking for. Repeating the search with "truth" in it brought up a lot more pages that I was looking for.

I am well aware that G**gle omits small words such as "and", "the", "a" etc., which makes sense, but to omit the word "truth" is very odd indeed. To add to the weirdness, I tried a similar search again and cannot get the omission of the word "truth" phenomenon to recur.

Anyway I hope I'm not over-reacting here, but I wonder if anyone else can shed some light on this strangeness?

Re: G**gle searches suppressing the word "truth"?

G==gle is a lost cause for common searchers. If you have a website that you want to share with the hordes that utilize this psycho-corp then your struggle is before you but as a searcher just go elsewhere.

Re: G**gle searches suppressing the word "truth"?

Hi 3D,

I have never been a fan of G**gle but I have heard far too many questions about G**gle's methods of keeping track of what your doing on the web and cautions to stay away from using them. There are quite a few threads here that discuss different topics about G**gle but on the whole, I don't think they're very positive. I realize this doesn't answer your question about the glitch you've experienced but it might in fact be just that. A glitch. You say you weren't able to make it happen again and we all know that computers are far from perfect. I do however remember one of the threads recommending a relatively new search engine called 'Cuil'. That one was supposedly started by ex-g**gle-ites so it might work very well for you :) fwiw
