New super search engine 'cuil' created by ex-googleites

Re: G**gle searches suppressing the word "truth"?

Pete02, yes I just found the discussion topic relating to Cuil. However sometimes I need to do a search for sites in my particular country only and I don't know of any good search engines that can do this. Cuil, for instance, has no option to search in one particular country.

Re: G**gle searches suppressing the word "truth"?

I understand 3D. Unfortunately I don't have any other helpful ideas for you. I myself use Y*hoo and it serves my purpose but I know they're not much better than G**gle when it comes to keeping track of what I'm doing. Cuil didn't work very well for me either but I thought it was worth a shot. Well as long as you don't encounter any more glitches you should be okay then no?

Re: G**gle searches suppressing the word "truth"?

There is also _www.altavista.com but it is owned by yahoo so it has same search results as yahoo.

But if you want to expand your knowledge about ggle i recommend reading tutorials and methods on :
__http://johnny.ihackstuff.com/ghdb/

This guy specializes in discovering ggle glitches and using this methods very often directs you to very nice results.
You see , ggle as a search engine/technical tool is double-edged sword , they cannot control everything that this tool caches and very often they overlook nice searches.

Hi 3D, Ixquick might do the job for you. It's a 'metasearch engine': it combines results of other search engines. Read their privacy statement here.

Re: G**gle searches suppressing the word "truth"?

Thanks for all the suggestions, though none of the alternative search engines appear to support searching amongst a specific country. I do use Ixquick quite a lot, but it too doesn't support country-specific searching.

Re: G**gle searches suppressing the word "truth"?

At work, when I need an answer to a technical question, I do g**gle. I don't care if those g**gle jackboots know this part. Heck, I'm at work. But, never do I use g**gle for my personal searches. I've been using _http://www.scroogle.org/cgi-bin/scraper.htm with pretty good success.

Re: G**gle searches suppressing the word "truth"?

3D Resident, have you tried any of these:

Wotbox - Search engine (supposedly) with country specific searching. Options to display country flags, and include preview and translation features. Sponsored links appear in panels separate from the main results.

List of search engines and directories

The databases used by search engines are made by "robots" or "spiders" that automatically map the Web by following the links between sites. The directories, on the other hand, contain sites that are hand picked by human beings. Still, most search sites present search engine as well as directory results. Metasearch engines gather results from several search engines and directories. They are not that good at advanced Boolean searching, but may provide you with a broad sweep of the Web.

Traditional search engines list normal webpages and some other file types that are interlinked to from such webpages. The database sites, however, give you access to data that are not part of the Web as such. See also sites focusing on the hidden Web below.

Hi there!
I recently found a promising alternative search engine and I wonder if some of you use it and can say something about the relevance of searched terms?
_https://duckduckgo.com/
Looks promising, plus they seem to NOT follow the g**gle way:
_http://donttrack.us/

Maybe any other search engines that you would recommend? (Cuil is obviously down)

How about Scroogle?
I've used it for several years now with satisfaction. Found it through the Cassiopaean forums... i think, don't remember exactly :-[

Hello clerck de bonk,

have also a look here, where Bud did create a quite astonishing search engine list:

G**gle searches suppressing the word "truth"?

:)

Thanks Legolas, have to bookmark that one in case Scroogle goes down for good.

Spread the word and make sure you add it to firefox

Just a small reminder ;)
It is a good practice to never ever tell what software you are using ;)
Why to make it easier for them huh ? ;)
