What strikes me as interesting is the apparent "timetable" of the announcement. Aside from the interesting fact that it was done on May Day, it seems that there was some urgency for some reason. I mean, geeze, late at night? When was the last time you heard of a president making some kind of announcement like that so late at night? Or any kind of announcement?

Something wicked this way come, be it man made or natural you need to have a good story written in advance. Are they ready to take the war on terror up a notch, will we witness another 911 or a natural disaster or cosmic bombardment hidden behind a bearded men.

I say brace yourself for the impact and enjoy the show.

Bin Laden post mortem photos???

Does anyone else find it a bit odd that the psychopaths haven't plastered Bin Laden's death photos all over the news and internet yet? (Besides the one photo that is a proven fake; it's a composite of two photos) I mean, Uday and Qusay photos were all over. This just strikes me as a bit odd. If they did in fact kill him over the weekend, one would think they would want their trophy displayed for all to see.

Yeah, me too. I had to laugh when I heard that. Also when Obama stressed that they decided not to bomb the place because of concern about the safety of civilians (none of whom were hurt in the operation), and that no American troops were lost. So it was all very spotless and heroic, though you cannot see any proof of it!

When I heard the news (second hand) that they had DNA to prove it was Osama (some Oz radio station info), I thoght that they must have defrosted the body to get that morsel (if it were true?), anyone else hear that? My next thought was 'so what's going to happen now, when and where is the next disaster?'

*The* Osama Bin Laden is dead and there is no audio/visual proof whatsoever (yeah I know about the forged corpse photo) and on top of that his corpse is being tossed into the sea? I think my mind just exploded...

But of course there are many good points made in this thread of what might be going on and why it is about time to "bury" good ol' Osama, he can't continue threaten the world another couple of decades in his advanced age, can he?

perhaps this whole speech was in regards to the surprise in Canadian politics. The fact that the NDP is surging in numbers across Canada has surprised everyone, including the NDP.

So let's see, the Harper government might be on a verge of a fall in Canada. The numbers are showing huge gains for the NDP. The NDP's biggest thing has always been to bring the troops home from Afghanistan. So the Americans, and I'm sure they have been paying attention to their buddy up north, pre-emptively give a save face solution so they don't end up looking like schmucks if and when Canada suddenly ends the war on terror. Now Jack be nibble(NDP leader), can make his announcement (if he wins) and the Americans are looking good.

Hey it may even boost the patriotic numbers of loony conservative Canadians to come out and vote for their Harpy, maybe making a competition out of this elections.

Either way, we may find out by the end of this week.

This morning I did something I rarely ever do- watched 10 min of FOX News to see what messages were being pushed. Two themes were being stressed. The first was how the US really needs to reassess the relationship with Pakistan because they may not really be good guys. And the second was how Bin Laden surely knew he might be killed and probably left plans in place for retaliation in that event. Al Zahawari is being elevated to be the new terror commander boogey man.
This is an excellent example of the Big Lie in action. It is truly astonishing to see how effective it is with huge numbers of people. The power of mass media to move the herd is not to be under-estimated.
