Telegram is far from an apolitical privacy and security platform.

Therein lies the problem.

Telegram marketed themselves as exactly that. We now see that was a Deception.

I never got a Telegram account because they made it almost impossible for me to use an anonymous phone number to sign up.

Red Flag. Full Stop. Decades of experience taught me to trust my instincts. I instantly grow suspicious and wary at the first tiny sniff of smoke.

I do that because it has paid off big hundreds of times in my business career.

Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram messenger, published a Christmas message on January 7, in which he urged users to relax more and communicate less.

"This year, I wish you less information, less food, less entertainment, less communication, less stimulation," Durov wrote on his Telegram channel.

He also wrote that all of the above interferes with peace of mind, health, sleep and creativity.

Blockages​

• On February 15, Telegram administration blocked 238,800 channels and groups for violating its policies, according to updated statistics on the messenger's website.
• The last time the blocking figure was higher than this was on January 23 - more than 300 thousand.
• As of February 16, more than 7.254 million groups and channels have been blocked on Telegram since the beginning of the year.
• In 2025, Telegram's administration blocked almost 2.7 times more channels and groups violating its policies than in 2024—more than 44 million, according to TASS calculations based on statistics on the messenger's website.

Interaction of the platform with RKN​

• Following reports that Telegram was maintaining dialogue with the agency, Roskomnadzor stated that it had nothing to add on the matter at this time.
• Earlier, Sergei Boyarsky, head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, told Fontanka.ru that Telegram maintains dialogue with Roskomnadzor.
