Telegram is far from an apolitical privacy and security platform.

Therein lies the problem.

Telegram marketed themselves as exactly that. We now see that was a Deception.

I never got a Telegram account because they made it almost impossible for me to use an anonymous phone number to sign up.

Red Flag. Full Stop. Decades of experience taught me to trust my instincts. I instantly grow suspicious and wary at the first tiny sniff of smoke.

I do that because it has paid off big hundreds of times in my business career.

Durov made a deal, and Telegram is now fully part of intelligence surveillance (if it wasn't already before). He called a 'friend' of his, who apparently helped smooth things over.
