Yeah, I noticed they were referring to Christmas time.
Here in Uruguay they call it "federal star" and in Argentina they call it the same ("Our" national flower is the Ceibo, the same in Argentina).
In Argentina it is used as a political symbol, here some information:

"Our Symbol: The Federal Star"
"The federal star has eight points and its color is red pointed. Eight points because there were eight provinces that united to face the Buenos Aires unitarians who wanted to subdue them and thus be able to deliver the nation to the European powers. Rojo punished because that is the color of the ceibo flower, which is our national flower and the symbol of our independence.
The origin of the Federal Star goes back to the Inca tradition. For the Inca people, each petal of the flower of the "Federal Star" symbolized the union between man and woman.
It was later adopted by the federal leaders Chacho Peñaloza and Felipe Varela. Their popular armies, called montoneras, traveled around the country carrying in their flags the Federal Star as a symbol of struggle against the foreign ideas of the Buenos Aires unitarians.
He also waved the federal star on the flags of the troops of Juan Manuel de Rosas when he confronted the imperialist powers of Great Britain and France in the battle of La Vuelta de Obligado.
The first radicals also used it as a symbol of struggle against the landed oligarchy.
With the emergence of Peronism, the Federal Star is retaken in its first shields and after its overthrow, the Peronist Youth takes it as the banner of the struggle of the Peronist resistance for the return of Perón.
The Federal Star symbolizes the struggle for national liberation and against dependence. This is why we carry it as a banner..."
