An "misunderstanding" (argument) by EU Justice Commissioner Vera Jourova claims the Ribbentrop and Molotov Treaty signed on Aug. 23, 1939, is what paved the way for WW2 and not what President Putin has proposed, stating facts from authentic Documents? The EU might be using this argument - to justify NATO setting up base in Poland, as an excuse to ward off Russia?

EU raps Russia for saying Poland helped start World War Two
Jan. 15, 2020 - The European Commission said on Wednesday it would not tolerate distortion of historic facts after Russia suggested Poland was partly responsible for starting World War Two and said it would challenge disinformation wherever it occurred.

Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested last month that Poland shared responsibility for the war because it connived in Nazi German plans in 1938 to dismember Czechoslovakia. The speaker of the Russian parliament has called for Poland to apologise for starting the war.

“Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts. The Commission’s role here is to talk about facts,” EU Justice Commissioner Vera Jourova told the European Parliament.

“The European Commission fully rejects any false claims that attempt to distort the history of the Second World War or paint the victims, like Poland, as perpetrators,” she said.

Jourova said it was the pact between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, signed by foreign ministers Joachim von Ribbentrop and Vyacheslav Molotov on Aug. 23, 1939, that paved the way for war.

“The Nazi-Soviet alliance enabled the attack on Poland by Nazi Germany on 1 September, 1939, and subsequently Soviet troops on 17 September. These events marked the beginning of the Second World War – these are the facts,” she said.

“Distortion of historical facts is a threat to our democratic societies and must be challenged wherever possible,” she said.

“Organized and targeted dissemination of distortions and disinformation is something we have to oppose and reject.”

Moscow accuses Polish resistance of executing Jews and Ukrainians in 1945

The Armia Krajowa (National Army, AK) was the main organization of resistance against the Nazi occupation

The Russian Defense Ministry accused Friday, the 75th anniversary of the Red Army's capture of Warsaw, of Polish resistance to the Nazis for "wiping out" Jews and Ukrainians in the Polish capital.

On a dedicated website, warsaw75.mil.ru, the ministry has posted declassified period archives.

"These documents testify to the fact that units of the Krajowa Army annihilated the Ukrainians and the Jews in the city and that they took hostage the Soviet officers who escaped from their detention by the Germans," it explains in a press release.

The Armia Krajowa (National Army, AK) was the main organization of resistance against Nazi occupation and answered to the Polish government in exile in London.

Anti-Semitism within the Polish resistance is a sensitive issue in Poland.

An ethnologist and photographer are trying to recover a lost chapter of Poland’s past by marking the sites of now vanished Jewish cemeteries with transparent ‘headstones’ and taking photographs of them.

Polish art project marks sites of vanished Jewish cemeteries
The plexiglass installations bear laser-etched epitaphs in Hebrew to those believed to have been buried at the site.

Poland was home to more than three million Jews before World War Two, one of the world’s largest Jewish communities, but the vast majority were killed by Nazi German occupiers who set up death camps such as Auschwitz on Polish soil.

Next Monday world leaders including German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Israeli President Reuven Rivlin will join some of the dwindling number of survivors at Auschwitz to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the camp’s liberation.

Ethnologist Katarzyna Kopecka and photographer Piotr Pawlak travel around Poland searching for the sites of former Jewish cemeteries in their ‘Currently Absent’ project.

“This is a bit like bringing back roots that have been destroyed, but life is stronger than the entire attempt at destruction,” said Pawlak. “We can bring some memory back.”

The POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw says on its website there are 1,164 Jewish cemeteries in Poland, but more than half of them have no tombstones left.

Kopecka said they got the idea for the project after they discovered they were unwittingly sitting in an area that was actually a cemetery.

“Whether it’s a field, or something else, these places are usually neglected,” said Kopecka, who plans to visit some 200 such sites with Pawlak for their project.

Kopecka said they often work with local authorities to determine the site of a former cemetery, but even they sometimes cannot locate it, forcing her and Pawlak to rely on guesswork.

The plexiglass installations are removed after they have been photographed.

The pictures have been displayed in Poland’s parliament and in cultural centers around the country.

“We have people contacting us whose ancestors were buried in these cemeteries and they ask when we’ll be going to a particular location,” Kopecka said.

“They tell us the name of the place, they would like to obtain a photo because they’ve never been to Poland, and here rest their grandfathers, great-grandfathers, aunts and uncles.”

The duo plan to publish a book of their photos and to make a documentary on the cemeteries which would also feature descendants of those buried there. [/QUOTE]

Poland to sign F-35 purchase on Friday

Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak today confirmed that on Friday that Poland would sign a deal to purchase 32 Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter jets in a contract worth $4.6bn.

Blaszczak announced the purchase via Twitter, saying it would take place in Dęblin, Eastern Poland, at 3 pm local time.

Blaszczak tweeted: “This Friday, in Dęblin at 15:00 I will sign a contract worth $4.6bnfor the purchase of 32 state-of-the-art fifth-generation F-35 fighters”

Yeah, what a deal!... but without any offset and more expensive than i.e. Belgium.. Hmmm, some pay off for visa-free travels? The other subject is why would Poland need such planes?

The Polish foreign Ministry made a brazen statement about reparations from Russia
31.01.2020-20: 38

In an interview with Radio Zet, Polish Deputy foreign Minister Pawel Jablonski said that Warsaw has an "unconditional" right to reparations from Russia for damage caused during the Second world war.

According to him, this topic should be raised constantly, since it does not have a Statute of limitations.

"If someone commits war crimes that led to the murder of several hundred thousand or even a million of our citizens, if they then occupied us for several decades, and we were subordinated to the USSR, there is no reason not to talk about it," said Yablonsky, for whom German occupation would probably be a more preferable option.

"Of course, in the current political situation, attempts to reach an agreement with Russia face a number of obstacles, but this topic should be constantly raised," the Polish politician believes.

Earlier, the leader of the ruling party of Poland "Law and justice" Jaroslaw Kaczynski expressed the opinion that Moscow, like Berlin, are obliged to pay compensation to Warsaw for damage in the Second world war.

New issues of the Pentagon: F-35 misses the target
The Pentagon found flaws in the new F-35

Mikhail Khodarenok 31.01.2020, 20: 58
The us Department of defense has discovered new flaws in the 5th-generation f-35 fighter developed by Lockheed Martin Corporation amid an increase in orders for this machine. In particular, problems are related to the accuracy of targeting a 25 mm gun.
In his annual report, the Pentagon's Director of operational testing and evaluation, Robert Beler, noted numerous shortcomings in the f-35 fighter developed by Lockheed Martin, including more than a dozen of them marked in the document as"mandatory for elimination".

According to Beler's estimates, they can affect the combat readiness of the aircraft and the use of the F-35, if they are not corrected in a timely manner.

As of November 2019, according to the review, the aircraft has 873 software defects compared to 917 as of September 2018. This data is cited by Bloomberg.

The F-35 is equipped with a 25 mm gun in all its variants. However, if the models for the Navy and marine corps rated the accuracy of the guns installed outside as acceptable, then in the version for the air force with a gun in the body, it was unsatisfactory because of the misalignment of the mounts, which, as it turned out, also crack.

"Despite the fact that the developers of the F-35 are working to eliminate the existing shortcomings, new problems are being discovered, which leads to a slight decrease in the total number of revealed shortcomings»,

"the report says. It adds that there are still "many significant" unresolved issues. In addition, the document also fixes flaws related to cybersecurity issues in the operation of the F-35.

Moreover, the report does not yet reflect the results of the latest tests of the F-35, which simulated armed conflicts with Iran, North Korea, China, as well as with the best air defense systems of Russia.

However, Bloomberg notes that despite such findings, the us Congress has steadily increased purchases of F-35S in recent years, adding 11 to the Pentagon's requests for 2016 and 2017, 20 in 2018, 15 in 2019 and 20 in 2020.

This fighter had a great impact on potential buyers in the world's weapons markets. As of the end of September 2019, the us aviation industry has delivered about 500 F-35 aircraft.

"Although we haven't seen this report yet, our F-35 continues to improve and is currently the most formidable fighter in the world. It is able to survive in the difficult conditions of modern combat and is organically incorporated into ultra-large weapon systems, " Lockheed Martin spokesman Brett Ashworth told Bloomberg.

He added that " the reliability of the aircraft continues to improve constantly, among the total number of F-35S, more than 65% of the aircraft are ready to perform tasks for their intended purpose, and in the air force units and formations, the number of combat-ready fighters is about 75%."

And although the operation of the f-35 fighter is still marred by major shortcomings and technical failures, no one in the United States and among their allies by and large does not question the ability of this machine to perform its combat tasks.

11 countries — Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Japan, South Korea, Turkey and the United Kingdom-have chosen the F-35 as their prospective fighter. Now Singapore and Poland are added to them. Nine partner countries of the United States have contributed funds for the development and mass production of this aircraft.

According to the American pilots, the number of shortcomings identified during the refinement of the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, EA-18G Growler and F-22 Raptor, was not less, and in some cases even more.

"If you dig into the archive, you will see that, for example, the formation of the Super Hornet aircraft during the first years of its operation looked similar. The same can be said for the F-14 Tomcat. And there are so many new technologies built into the F-35 that not everything will go smoothly from the very beginning," explained one of the us Navy pilots.

"Many experts, including us, are systematically engaged in pouring mud on this plane. And fighters simply happen as successful in their design, and not very", - explained "Газете.Ru" source in the Russian aviation industry.

The main thing in the F-35 is not its flight characteristics as an aircraft, although they are undoubtedly important, according to the expert. The main thing is the ability of this aircraft to integrate with large and ultra-large combat systems — with AWACS aircraft, ground control points, aircraft carriers, anti-aircraft missile systems, etc.

The second key difference between the F-35 and previous aircraft is its low visibility. In the air and air defense battles of the future, it will play a crucial role.

Finally, we should definitely mention the ALIS (Autonomy Logistics and Information System) system. It is the world's first system for centralized daily monitoring of the technical condition of F-35 aircraft in real time. In previous-generation fighters, several different systems performed these functions on a daily basis. There is only one global center, the so-called Autonomous logistics Operating Unit (ALOU), where the range of spare parts is formed and their distribution as needed for F — 35 operators. All ALIS servers are connected to each other via encrypted ground or satellite systems.

"I must say that we do not even fully understand the architecture of this system and understand the features of its functioning. In fact, this is a revolution in military Affairs. It allows you to control every F-35, all operators, regardless of the region where the machine is located, and if necessary, limit the range of combat tasks performed by the aircraft. It used to be that the US could say to any buyer of its weapons — " you bought missiles from us, but let them lie on our territory for now." This is not necessary now. If necessary, the US will limit its ally by pressing one button of the ALIS system, " the source said "Газеты.Ru".

At the same time, it is now impossible to say whether the Americans put it on this plane, the expert says, adding that the Americans were not mistaken with the F-16 — they absolutely accurately predicted the niche of such a combat vehicle.

A similar story happened with the Russian su-27. At first, few people believed in it, and many considered it a highly specialized aircraft. However, today the su-27-based aircraft are the basis of the combat power of the Russian air force.

As for possible purchases of Russian su-57 5th-generation fighters instead of the F-35, for example, by Turkey, the strategy of this country today is to create a certain military potential for actions in purely specific areas, and the choice of weapons and military equipment that will solve these problems already belongs to modern Turkish tactics.

Similar destinations for Turkey are currently Greece, Turkey and Cyprus, and recently we can talk about Libya. This also applies to the problem of developing hydrocarbon deposits both in the Eastern Mediterranean and on the Libyan shelf. And in one of these areas, the Greece-Israel axis is clearly looming, both in terms of production areas and possible routes for transporting raw materials. Moreover, Greece is a member of NATO, and Israel is the closest us ally in the region.

For a possible solution to such geopolitical problems, the American fighter of the 5th generation F-35 of Turkey is categorically not suitable.

In the event of military action, the combat capability of the F-35 can be reduced to zero with a single turn of the ALIS key. There is every reason to believe that such a scenario can not suit Turkey in the future, even if the situation with the refusal of the United States to supply the F-35 to Ankara will be reviewed.

As for the numerous shortcomings that are revealed during the operation of this aircraft in the United States and Washington's allies, most experts do not tend to overly dramatize the situation, but consider the list of shortcomings of the F-35 as inevitable at the stage of finishing a promising machine.

March 14, 2020 “The election is in two months. We will see.
The coming days will be key and as this disease develops in Poland we will be observing this and taking further decisions. There is not such a decision today, but it does not mean that it is ruled out,” Szefernaker told private radio RMF FM.

Poland has reported 84 cases of coronavirus, including two deaths.

The government announced on Friday it would close borders to foreigners and the central bank governor called for a rate cut to fight the impact of the illness on the economy.

“Today no-one is thinking about the election, everyone is thinking how to stop this epidemic,” Szefernaker added.

Tom Holmes, a 34-year-old British primary school teacher living in Poland, had expected to welcome home his twin babies and his wife in Warsaw on Monday upon their return from a holiday in Britain.

Instead, on Saturday, he jumped on a bus to travel 570 km (355 miles) from Warsaw to Berlin, in hopes of catching a flight to London to meet up with his family, now stranded in Britain by coronavirus-related travel curbs.

Like many others across Europe, Holmes was caught unprepared as governments shut borders to contain the spread of the infection, forcing him to take drastic action.

Poland, which has reported 103 cases of coronavirus and three deaths, announced on Friday it will ban foreigners from entering the country from Sunday and impose a 14-day quarantine on its citizens returning home.

Those with a residence permit, like Holmes and his British wife, would also be allowed to enter, but no international inbound flights or trains would be allowed from 0000 CET on Sunday, except for some charter flights bringing Poles back from holidays.

That meant his wife could no longer fly to Poland alone with the twins, and his British mother-in-law would not be allowed in and would be unable to fly on Monday to accompany her daughter.

“It’s a very difficult situation at the moment and I’m trying to go back and see them so we can eventually try to get back home here as a family together,” Holmes said.

He may have a chance eventually, as the Polish government announced plans on Saturday to charter flights via the flag LOT carrier for those stranded abroad.

Flights will be scheduled initially from a handful of countries, including Britain, the United States and holiday destinations such as Cyprus. LOT will operate a sign-up procedure online.

Blazej Szuman, 49, a delivery driver living in Slough in Britain, flew to Poland for five days on Thursday to book a wedding with his fiancee in his native town of Wagrowiec in northwestern Poland.

His return flight was booked for Tuesday but, since the border closures, he decided to borrow his fiance’s son’s car to drive the 1,432 km (890 miles) home immediately, taking a Channel ferry back to Britain.

“Everything looks like it’s in some sort of horror movie. I feel like I have to escape the country in which I was born from who knows what,” Szuman told Reuters.

The wedding, he said, will likely be postponed.

Mar 24, 2020 · GDANSK, Poland - Four hundred years after the Mayflower crossed the Atlantic from Britain to the United States, a group of engineers plan to have a crewless-ship also named the Mayflower, navigate itself along the same route.

The voyage is due to begin in September and the new Mayflower could become the first full-sized, fully autonomous vessel to cross the Atlantic, organizers IBM and marine research group Promare say.

The original Mayflower ship transported 102 British settlers from England to America. They would become the first pilgrims to land there.

A hull designed in the Polish port city of Gdansk set off by road for Plymouth in Britain on Tuesday, where final work will be completed. The ship will use an 'AI Captain'.

"One common thing on both projects was really a sense of adventure. The original Mayflower had people believing in a special future and putting their lives at risk," said Goetz Linzenmeier, chairman and founder of Aluship, which built the hull.

"In this new Mayflower this is also a technological adventure, fortunately no life is at risk."

The original Mayflower was a wooden, commercial, lightly-armed sailing vessel. The new Mayflower is a "highly-sophisticated trimaran with an even more sophisticated interior," he added.

Nearly three-quarters of Poles think a presidential election due on May 10 should be postponed, according to an opinion poll released on Wednesday, as Poland combats the coronavirus.

That is insane:
Tonight, at 4:20 a.m., the Polish government voted to vote by correspondence for +60 years old and quarantined only in the May presidential elections.

The party which has majority PiS, has most of the supporters in this age range - above 60. That move was evil and clever. At 2:30 was the voting About „coronavirus anticrisis shield”, which is totally BS BTW and in 2:25 they added this addition about the postal voting for older people...
