Prometheus (Ridley Scott's Alien Prequel)

The Living Force
The Alien movies are not everyone's cup of tea, but I quite enjoyed some of them. This one does not even have the typical aliens... Instead it reveals that both humans and aliens were created by the same humanoid race. The aliens were a kind of biological weapon they created. It's a good explanation, but for the most part, I did not like this movie.

The positive:
- The central theme of the movie is that humans have been created by an alien race from their own DNA.
- The acting was pretty good, especially the android.

The not-so-positive:
- Personally, I disliked the feeling of darkness or hopelessness one is left with at the end. Though maybe that is what should be expected from an almost-horror movie like this.
- The plot is pretty weak and some of the actions people take make no sense at all.

Same as you, axj. I enjoyed the movie, as a sci-fi entertainment, but a lot of points makes me think that the movie was a little bit rushed. The plot feels like they've written something for a 14 episodes TV show, then cut down everything to fit a 2 hours movie. But, like a lot of my friends, we were disappointed because we were expecting too much from the director.

What a shocking film.
It helps if the acting isnt appauling and wooden to try and keep intrest enough in the storyline and any hidden messages etc the film might have.

**Spoilers**

Nothing new in the story. We are created by Aliens, who are tall humanoids, who then decide they want to destroy us again. Another race of alien trys killing them off, and theres a bit of in-breeding going off.

Its amazing that hollywood can make films like 'V' and Matrix, and then churn out rubbish like this.

I was all set to go see this-but based on the reviews so far I will probably save the $$ and wait for DVD. Too bad. I am a big Aliens / Ridley Scott fan and it is shame when well known directors turn out a clunker. I really enjoyed Scott's "Kingdom of Heaven" although he took a good deal of artistic license with historical fact-if in fact there is any such thing as "historical fact" as we learned from "Secret History of the World" those who write history control it and it becomes "fact" as they want it to be (sorry to go off topic here)

Here are some comments on the scientific goofs in this movie, which I agree. :)

 I saw the movie yesterday and it didn't have many interesting ideas in the movie which I was hoping for but it did hold my interest which is better than most other movies released recently. It seemed like the movie was introducing the idea that the human race was engineered but from some physical beings from another solar system. The intro scene was interesting to me because it showed one of those giants with a huge ufo hovering over it and then it zoomed into his dna and showed it breaking apart. I'm not sure what that had to do with the plot of the movie but made me think of how the human race supposedly had their dna broken apart.

Thats a good article. They really were the stupidist crew to ever leave the Earths atmosphere. If it wasnt for the android, im pretty sure they would of crashed into the moon on take-off.

Heres a couple i noticed.

So, they spend 1 trillion pounds, and 2 years travelling in the hope they find intelligent life. They reach the planet, and instantly find objects that arent naturally formed.
So.... instead of spending a bit of time making a plan, they rush out of the ship, that fast, that the doors on the lunar vehicle have a countdown from 10 to 1 and some of them only just make it in time.

Another one.... they take the humanoid head back to the ship and think "yeah we will make it come back into life", without any thought whatsoever to the dangers of it.

The Android decide to kill one of the scientists with no info on why he would want to do it.

A great example of a mis-labelled dumbed down action movie. It didnt even feel like a sci-fi to me.

Here's Alex Jone's view of the movie and what he thinks it tries to convey:

_http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiV7c_O5em4

ADDED: In his view, the movie represents the illuminati's view on the origin of the human race, basically that we were genetically engineered by these near-immortal aliens and that they are now coming back to "reprogram" us. He makes reference to the fact that many known scientists and the global elite believe in this idea that they are promoting but cover it in the guise of fiction. He then goes on saying that we are not facing a bunch of ET genetical engineers but global technocrats that are creating chimeras, spreading viruses and manipulating our DNA.

Yeah, I agree with the observations made on this thread. Imo it's an OK movie for entertainment, it had some substance to it I guess, but it didn't really have the esoteric depth and the inter-connectedness between scenes such as in the movies V for Vendetta, the Matrix and the Terminator which I consider to be just about perfect movies in that respect. I left the theater early so I'm gonna rent it on DVD to see the ending! :)

Wait, do you mean the original Terminator movie with Schwarzenegger? It's been a while since I've seen that, but is there some esoteric stuff in it?

Yeah, it was the first one in 1984 with Schwarzenegger but I liked all three. What impressed me was the way the movie was put together. It was like each scene was significant within the greater context of the other scenes. All scenes IMO were significantly inter-connected, maybe similar to a Greek drama or something like that. No wasted scenes and you could see the transformation of the the central character Sarah Conner as the movie progresses as she's 'guided' by the future (or guided by a character from the future) thus allowing for multiple possibilities on the timeline. Also it's about time travel but that still has to do with 'time.' More then that there seems to me to be an intrinsic 'timeless' inter-connection that takes place 'outside of time' between the scenes that make them all relevant to each other as the story grows and evolves. I forget a lot though since I haven't watched it in a long time.

This sums it the best, the only thing I enjoyed in this movie were the special effects, even the acting was pretty lame, it was like watching the girl with a dragon tatoo in space gear.... the best thing was that all of these lame characters in the end got what they deserved.
What they forgot to add to the list of stupidities was pretty lame automated cesarean section...

What's interesting is that the old trillionaire that backed the whole operation went intro great lenghts trying to find answers to age old questions (why are we here, who made us, what is our purpose...) externally, it seems that knowledge and wisdom didn't come with age, and of course not with money.

Is it true that masons like to call themselves 'sons of a widow' - and if I can recall correctly Prometheus is a son of widow

well Alex Jones was ranting somewhere on youtube about connection between this movie and Illuminati
