Allthough we don't know the precise details of the effectiveness of this new weapon. But it surely will make their opponents nervous. It's said that Russia is ahead of laser weaponry because they are the only ones capable of building mini nuclear power plants. The ones that fit in a container and can generate enough energy to actually shoot airplanes down from a great distance. It will also reduce the costs because using missiles for the same task is a lot more expensive.
