Show #57: Vladimir Putin: 'Dictatorial Thug' or Anti-Imperialist Stalwart?

It will be interesting. I want to know more about Putin. Specially if you can give your point of vue about what really happened in Georgia, if you remember, in a school where many many people died and the fault was give to Putin. And also the black story about the nuclear submarine where again the culprit was Putin. I don't remember the years where these two tragedies happened but they are very important to understand in relation to Putin.

Oh yes, Kursk submarine disaster. Back then he was blamed for not allowing the US and other to help (since Russia didn't have the appropriate equipment) because he didn't want the secret technology of Kursk submarine to fall into their hands. It would be great to hear something about it, indeed. About Beslan as well. Very much looking forward to the show!

Sometimes it seems to me that Putin is making good moves. But, after all reading about provoked wars, installed governments, installed communism so that a counterpart is present etc... at this point (as the CS said) it seems that we already have one government and everything is just a show for the masses.

Is Putin a knowingly part of this and just playing his role of the good cop?

If he is really a good guy and has a team of good people behind him, by simply going on TV and newspapers, slowly trough time with Truth information (relatively speaking) and with facts and data that people could verify about the whole situation and what is happening in the world (comets, Monsanto and big Pharmacy, military industrial complex etc.) in carefully prepaired shows he could surprise and pretty distract TPTB in their attempts and maybe even "touch and shake up" also authoritarian followers so that they (maybe) think more about their point of view?

Maybe the SOTT crew could talk in this show also about PTB and the whole "game". Until now they are mentioned a couple times in shows, but (as I see it) it looks like this theme could be elaborated maybe more? New info, new points of view?
Will not have internet access until late tonight, but will listen to the show tomorrow when it is over.

Greetings to the whole crew! You are all doing a great job!

It is a very interesting subject and I'm sure it will be a revealing show.
My nitpicking was merely pointing out the imprecise language used, something I wouldn't expect from the SOTT team.
That and posting to internet forums in the early hours after a night of red wine :)
No offense meant, apologies for my tone.

Five years ago, or even two, Putin was RELATIVELY obscure to most people on this forum and TOTALLY obscure to most other people. RELATIVELY compared to people like Obama or other Western leaders who use the Western media to grandstand and engage in all manner of PR. Putin may never have been obscure for you, but in that case you are in the minority. Unfortunately, we can't tailor each show to the particular understanding of one person or a small group of people. Perhaps you should consider doing your own show on Putin with a description that is more appropriate to your deeper level of understanding.

I read this thread last night and I made a list of a few world leaders. While on a college campus this morning, I decided to conduct a small survey while I was getting coffee. The participants could not look at their phones or rely on others for their answers. I also gave credit for just last names. I asked the questions and they wrote their answers on a scrap of paper and handed it to me or stated they didn't know and I wrote the results in my notebook. I know its is less than 30 samples, so for what its worth here are the results:

10 out of 10 knew that Barack Obama was President of the United States.
7 out of 10 knew that Vladimir Putin was the President of Russia.
1 out of 10 knew that Stephen Harper was Prime Minister of Canada (the person was Canadian).
0 out of 10 knew that Enrique Peña Nieto was the President of Mexico.
4 out of 10 knew that Angela Merkel was the President (Chancellor) of Germany.
1 out of 10 knew that François Hollande was the President of France (the Canadian again).
3 out of 10 knew that David Cameron was the Prime Minister of Great Britain (2 thought it was still Tony Blair).
0 out of 10 knew that Xi Jinping was the President of China.

Some had to go to class so my sample size shrank to 5 participants.

Concerning their home states (and I did not verify the answers):

1 out of 5 knew the name of their Representative in Congress.
3 out of 5 knew the name of their Senator.
5 out of 5 knew the name of their Governor.
0 out of 5 knew the name of their Mayor.

Just a note - on SOTT.net, the radio icon shows that SOTT Talk Radio is on air but on the Blogtalkradio site, the timer shows about 40 more minutes before the show begins!

Yeah I think it has to do with the difference in the daylight savings time between the US and Europe. When I lived in Europe I had to deal with this around this time when corresponding with those in the US.

There's a lot of interference, on my end at least, sort of like bad radio reception in the old days, picking up multiple channels, and the other channel is an eerie rumbling.

Horrible noise was drowning out the crew's voices - now it lessened but is still intermittent.

I was about to post about that too -- I can barely make out the audio right now.

Same here. Almost sounds like an interfering sound from somewhere on a street

Here too - it gets a bit better but still hard to understand for me... Sounds like a bad connector or something?
