The Map is really impressive! Especially the groupings of sinkholes in a given radius. The U.S. looks like swiss cheese.

A link I gave earlier has logged two more sinkholes for September in Titusville, Florida (17th) and Ottawa, Canada (18th).

The only entry for October, so far, is an updated article on the sinkhole with video and pictures and discussion of the recent meteor explosion and related events in Louisiana.

“Earlier in the morning, Sexton said there was a ‘possibility that a meteor did hit the ground’ in the area, but that theory was put to rest with the confirmation of the blast at the Camp Minden bunker,” WAFB reported.

The Bayou Corne sinkhole disaster “is made all the more worrisome” because of a nearby Crosstex Energy LP’s “well containing 1.5 million barrels of liquid butane, a highly volatile liquid that turns into a highly flammable vapor upon release,” CNN has reported. Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack said a breach of that well could be “catastrophic.”

Something unexpectedly triggered an emergency flare 40 feet high at that Crosstex well last week. An explosion at that well would be in the range of one and a half B83 thermonuclear (hydrogen) bombs, according to scientists.

“This is extremely serious,” Kim Torres, spokeswoman for the Office of Emergency Preparedness, told ABCNews.com. “The people are very aware of how serious this is.”
Aside from a plethora of oil refineries and oil and gas pipelines, Louisiana has two nuclear facilities.
 
While I was working the map on totoshop, something crossed my mind and worried me and my actual stress : We only see the "ground" sinkholes ... we have no idea about what is going on underwater. Maybe there is another gigantic swiss cheese going on underwater .. :scared:

Good point, and it surely could be worse! But could we how know it? The PTB have to hide anything as these kind of informations... Unfortunately for all of us!
 
Hummm. Going on 'strong' in Gatineau, western Québec.

I think there's an old fault line in that area. I'll double check and post it back.

At 8:30 on Tuesday morning, the ground of a vegetable market in Guyuan City of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region suddenly opened up, leaving a hole over 150 feet wide and almost 20 feet deep. According to witnesses, a tricycle with its driver and several pedestrians fell in.

Rescue crews struggled to pull survivors out, even as still gushing water hampered their efforts. A crane had to be brought in to remove the vehicle. In 10 minutes, four were pulled from the wreckage, including a child, but an hour later, the dead body of a woman was discovered.

An 11-21-2012 update on the Bayou Corne, Louisiana Sinkhole: now an 8-acre surface area

Officials said that the gas freed by the cavern collapse now poses an uncertain risk to Bayou Corne residents who have been evacuated from their residences for more than three months. Meanwhile, officials have called for in-home air monitoring and specialized detectors and ventilation systems for slab-foundation homes. The evacuation order, affecting about 150 homes in the Grand Bayou and Bayou Corne communities, was issued within hours of the discovery of the sinkhole, though the presence of the gas now provides another reason to keep the order in place, parish officials have said The sinkhole, which now has an 8-acre surface area, is located in swamps between the communities south of La. 70 on property leased by Texas Brine from Occidental Chemical Corp. Boudreaux provided estimates showing the three vent wells had released 558,000 cubic feet of gas through Friday morning. An investigatory well that the Office of Conservation ordered Texas Brine to drill months ago to peer inside its failed cavern has burned another 598,000 cubic feet of gas through early Friday. Combined with the three vent wells, the four wells have removed nearly 1.2 million cubic feet of gas, the figures show. – The Advocate.

As of the 13th of November, the mandatory evacuation is still in effect… Texas Brine has removed 123 roll off boxes hydrocarbon contaminated debris and approximately 1900 Barrels of hydrocarbons from the surface of the sinkhole… USGS estimates the sources of seismic activity to be between 200 and 600 meters deep… In response to Texas Brine’s assertion that region seismic activity caused their cavern to be compromised, USGS stated (on 25 Sept. 2012) that it is their belief that the seismicity is a consequence of the collapse of the cavern, and not the cause of the collapse of the cavern and the formation of the sinkhole… – Assumption Parish Situation Summary [PDF].

Sango Road has been shut down to thru-traffic south of Trough Springs Road because of a sinkhole.

The sinkhole began to cave in near 377 Sango Road on Sunday because of the amount of rain Clarksville has received in the last few days, said Darnell Black, foreman with the Montgomery County Highway Department.

The hole was about 10 feet wide Monday afternoon, and Black said they plan to dig all of the mud out, fill it back up with large rocks and pour some concrete in it before reopening the road sometime Tuesday afternoon.

Thomas Kirkendoll, who lives two doors down from the sinkhole, said there’s a sinkhole in his backyard and his neighbor across the street had a sinkhole in their front yard three or four years ago.
