Sott.net "Black-listed" as Kremlin Propaganda according to the Washington Post

Looking who is behind the following is stated, my comments are in blue:

_http://www.propornot.com/p/frequently-asked-questions.html

We are an independent team of concerned American citizens with a wide range of backgrounds and expertise, including professional experience in computer science, statistics, public policy, and national security affairs. {And already failing in recognizing paid agents that are supposedly Russians} We are currently volunteering our time and skills to identify propaganda - particularly Russian propaganda - targeting a U.S. audience. We collect public-record information connecting propaganda outlets to each other and their coordinators abroad, analyze what we find, act as a central repository and point of reference for related information, and organize efforts to oppose it.

Some of our members have been aware of Russian influence operations in a professional context for quite some time, but others have become increasingly aware of existing research on the subject in light of recent events in Ukraine, Western Europe Europe, and the Middle East. We formed PropOrNot as an effort to prevent propaganda from distorting U.S. political and policy discussions. We hope to strengthen our cultural immune systems against hostile influence and improve public discourse generally.

We are completely independent, because we not funded by anyone {grammar is not their strength}, and we have no formal institutional affiliations. We are nonpartisan, in that our team includes all major political persuasions except the pro-Russian kind. We are anonymous for now, because we are civilian Davids taking on a state-backed adversary Goliath, and we take things like the international Russian intimidation of journalists, “Pizzagate”-style mob harassment, and the assassination of Jo Cox very seriously, but we can in some cases provide background information about ourselves on a confidential basis to professional journalists. We do not publicly describe all of our sources and methods {With that everything is just bla, bla}, although we describe most of them, and again, we can in some cases provide much more detail to journalists and other researchers in order to contextualize their reporting.

We are American, and our team has more than 30 members, including Ukrainian-American, Iraqi-American, and quite a few other varieties of folks. We are united in our overall objectives: to identify, help counter, and eventually deter Russian propaganda {There never was Russian propaganda to begin with}. Any time an outlet consistently echoes, repeats, or refers its audience to Russian propaganda, we’re going to analyze it and call it out {And you guys failed analyzing news from the very beginning}. We work to shine a light on propaganda in order to prevent it from distorting political and policy discussions {Better to stay away from any mirrors}, to strengthen our cultural immune systems against hostile influence, and to improve public discourse generally.

Really?. the "propornot" looked like came out of Clinton campaign head quarters. Probably, Wiki leaks will hack the origin of this website and make them much more stupid. Is it the sign that they are desperate that they are not in control any more.

Does these guys can't see that it's their wishful thinking that made Trump american president elect?. It is hurting stomach of poorer and middle class that made them open their eyes(despite all the propaganda) to make them choose Trump. Clinton campaign tried to blame russia during election season and it didn't work and slightly tracked back. Now they still continue Russia for it. Probably they don't have any body else to blame?

Well, this seems to be a desperate intent to dismiss the interest of people for alternative information. I guess that the resolution of EU this week about how to combat "russian propaganda" is part of the same operation. It is curious that a fistful of medias (RT, Sputnik, Russkiy Mir foundation, and a few others) can produce so much commotion considering that They (the PTB) have hundreds (or thousands) of big medias to their service. Do this mean that the Western Big Medias are losing their "mojo"? Well, I must say that I'd like very much that this will be the case :cheer:

EDIT: grammar

I think this is beautiful! When in the past we've been accused of being funded by Putin, my response has always been "I wish!". That way we would not have any cash issues and we would still be able to tell the truth!

The funny thing about these "fake news" website lists and similar recent offensives from the MSM and other sore losers in Western political spheres is that they are blind to the fact that this will backfire tremendously. I mean, RT's youtube channel was already the most popular news channel on yt, so if 'dad' comes along and says "don't read that!", what are people going to do, if not exactly the opposite?? People are quite in the mood of being contrarian to the PTB, judging by Brexit, Trump, etc. So maybe they just gave us a bit of free publicity!

(I was rather disappointed that I didn't see Sott.net on the other "fake news" list created by that female college teacher. Maybe we should send her the link?)

Then I read that Tony Blair wants to go back into UK politics because he wants to save Britain from Jeremy Corbyn, who he thinks is a 'nutter'. Thanks Tony, you are so much hated now that this can only be good for Mr Corbyn!

This is old news, but in the beginning of 2015, L'Express magazine published a similar list in France, and French SOTT was number 23 in the ranking of "fake info sites". The difference in that in this case, it would be as if The Washington Post itself had made that list they are quoting from, since it came from L'Express directly. They even made it so nice and democratic that anyone can write to the magazine with comments about other sites that could fit the profile. So it's the choice of the people. Yeah, right...

Free publicity. :)

Well there's a list of about 200 sites and it seems most of them were selected for republishing anything from RT or Sputnik.

Which apparently constitutes "publications that supposedly comprise a "sophisticated" Russian propaganda machine." https://www.sott.net/article/334870-Insane-WaPo-Russian-propaganda-story-slammed-by-Greenwald-others-as-disgusting-smear

The IT billionaires in Silicon Valley and elsewhere and the corporate mainstream media are reacting to Hillary Clinton’s defeat in the US election by seeking to shut down genuine free speech, Wall Street analyst and Trends Research Institute head Gerald Celente told Sputnik.

US Media to 'Get Even' After Clinton's Loss Amid Crackdown on 'Fake News Sites'
https://sputniknews.com/world/201611231047736563-us-corporate-media-fake-news/

According to Celente, media are "taking cheap shots at getting even by claiming it was fake news and not that people were disgusted with the Clintons."

Merrimack College Assistant Professor Melissa Zimdars, a self-proclaimed feminist activist, recently created a list of the allegedly fake news sites. The corporate media extensively covered the list, which reportedly serves as the starting point in creting a nerative suitable to censor alternative and independent media in the United States, including the Daily Wire, Zero Hedge, Breitbart, WND, Red State and Infowars.

Celente recalled that Google had already been accused of repeatedly manipulating search results to favor Hillary Clinton earlier this year. Now Mark Zuckerberg and other Silicon Valley IT billionaires who had enthusiastically backed Clinton are refusing to accept that they had lost fair and square in the established US political process.

In their accusations that the independent and alternative media were peddling fake news, the huge US corporate media juggernauts were falsely accusing actual journalists of crimes that they themselves have continued to commit on a massive scale, Celente pointed out.

"Fake news? The mainstream media are pros at it. Not a week goes by without a propaganda piece about Syria, Russia, Iran or any of the governments Washington cannot control," Celente observed. The track record of the New York Times and other major US media outlets in putting out fake news unquestioningly on behalf of the US governments of the day went back more than half a century, Celente recalled. "Fake news? What fake news are they talking about: Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction and ties to al-Qaeda? No, I think maybe the Gulf of Tonkin incident that never happened. How about the propaganda surrounding the shooting down of MH-17?," he noted.

The alleged attack on a US warship in the Gulf of Tonkin in 1964 was later proved never to have happened, but reports of it were used to push the US Congress into giving President Lyndon Johnson authorization to respond with what became the Vietnam War.

"How about the allegation that US president-elect Donald Trump is [Russian President Vladimir] Putin's puppet and the Russians hacked into Podesta's email?" Celente asked.

John Podesta was the head of Hillary Clinton’s unsuccessful election campaign whose hacked emails released by WikiLeaks revealed instances of corruption and questionable and unethical behavior on the part of the Clinton team.

Under a barrage of criticism for losing what their supporters had assumed was a certain victory, the establishment Democrats have responded since the election by criticizing a multitude of allegedly "fake news" sites which they blame for the election defeat. Outgoing US President Barack Obama jumped on the fake news bandwagon during his visits to Germany and Peru, and claimed that fake news harmed democracy.

https://sputniknews.com/us/201611251047854990-washington-post-fake-news-propornot/

On Friday, the website tweeted a link to their new Chrome extension which will “highlight” the websites which they have “identified.” The move was met with a barrage of mockery, and questions as to why they did not include mainstream media outlets, such as the Washington Post and New York Times, who had reported that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq — helping to muster up popular support for a war on false pretenses.

Facebook Inc, facing withering criticism for failing to stem a flood of phony news articles in the run-up to the U.S. presidential election, is taking a series of steps to weed out hoaxes and other types of false information, chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post Friday evening.

Facebook's Zuckerberg discloses steps to fight fake news
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-facebook-idUSKBN13E0QN

Facebook has long insisted that it is a technology company and not a publisher, and rejects the idea that it should be held responsible for the content that its users circulate on the platform. Just after the election, Zuckerberg said the notion that fake or misleading news on Facebook had helped swing the election to Donald Trump was a "crazy idea."

Zuckerberg then said last Saturday that more than 99 percent of what people see on Facebook is authentic, calling "only a very small amount" fake news and hoaxes.

But in his Friday posting Zuckerberg struck a decidedly different tone. He said Facebook has been working on the issue of misinformation for a long time, calling the problem complex both technically and philosophically.

"While the percentage of misinformation is relatively small, we have much more work ahead on our roadmap," Zuckerberg said.

He outlined a series of steps that were already underway, including greater use of automation to "detect what people will flag as false before they do it themselves."

He also said Facebook would make it easier to report false content, work with third-party verification organizations and journalists on fact-checking efforts, and explore posting warning labels on content that has been flagged as false. The company will also try to prevent fake-news providers from making money through its advertising system, as it had previously announced.

Zuckerberg said Facebook must be careful not to discourage sharing of opinions or mistakenly restricting accurate content. "We do not want to be arbiters of truth ourselves, but instead rely on our community
and trusted third parties," he said. (Article continues)

Well this sounds desperate. An Italian journalist commented on the similar 'anti-Russian' angst, and the attempt to ban Russian media in Italy:

"There is actually a great nervousness in Europe but fortunately these 304 MEPs are isolated. They are trying to use Russia to stifle Euro-skeptical positions. This time, however, the those promoting the resolution get the count wrong because it received only 304 votes, a minority against the abstentions and 'No' votes,*** a sign that there is a large share of European parliamentarians who are starting to moderate their positions toward Russia. The 'No' vote of the Five-star Movement, the League, and the abstention of most deputies of the Democratic Party, all testify that this hardline camp is getting weaker."

Italian analyst condemns EU's anti-Russian legislation as 'fascist in true sense of the word'

Hopefully, in that sense, this just backfires big time. But, in a darker tone, the journalist continues:

"This is an attack against the entire European dissidence which I am honored to be part of. I -- who write for Sputnik and also collaborate with Russian media, if the criteria were adopted established by this absurd resolution -- I would be liable to arrest, persecution and censorship as a traitor to the European homeland and colluding with the enemy. Who writes such resolutions is a fascist in the true sense of the word."

Bet the PTB are really wishing they had their Killary in power now instead of pro-Russian Trump.

I would say being on such lists is a badge of honor.

Interesting pressTV is not on there. I suppose they don’t carry any RT stories.
