SOTT Site - New Layout

Thank you Mr.Sott, Ms E , Mr. Marke and all involved for the great work you have done, to shape this great new SOTT Layout!!
  :headbanger:

Am I the only one who don't like the new design? The images on the site are beutiful but the design has los its clearity and wonderful individuality. It looks so sterile...

Something for the Sott-Team: The search-box isn't lifting off the background, it is hard to see where you can type your searchwords in.

I love the new look, but I do think it's a little bit "busy" on the top bar, and I'm not sure about how the logo looks in a big grayish square that seems like it doesn't belong. Maybe the square can be made a bit transparent to see the lines behind it or something? Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it, as it is all very different indeed. Very modern and sleek design overall, thanks for all the hard work and keeping it fresh :)

Oh the main navigation, did you guys try centering it?

I agree with you there SAO.

I really like it, just takes a little while to get used to the new style but you've done a fantastic job!

It could be even 'busier' for me and I would enjoy it even more! :D

On the front page, I've counted about 80 to 85 different current articles with comments. I could be wrong, but that seems like more than I'm used to seeing at one time.

It would be interesting to see if SOTT will be keeping comment statistics to track any increases in readership due to this new presentation.

Hi Scott,

Thank you and all those who had a hand in the upgrade progress.

When a user logins in, there is a "Personalize" link available. Clicking on that brings up a few options, one of them being the "change style settings". The "change style settings" however has only the "Classic" option and no other styles. Will there be other styles available, eventually?

Yep, there will - it's on the list (so - in progress). :)

Ah okay thanks anart. The other thing I noticed is that the total number of visitors who have viewed an article is not there anymore. Would that be restored as well?

I believe user visits will now be an internal statistic. Mr. Scott can clarify, but I believe the problem with that is that it was a) unreliable and b) a tax on the server to have it displayed to users.

Okay understood. Thanks Heimdallr. :)

To be honest, I was rather shocked when I first saw the new SoTT yesterday. It is so different from the previous version. But this morning I had another look, and in fact I think it's really elegant and quite beautiful, not to mention very easy on the eye. It's clear that a lot of thought has gone into it. Kudos to all the designers and programmers who worked on it!
