SOTT Site - New Layout

You all improved what I already considered pretty cool. Now, it's not only cool, but displays a more sophisticated format.

One thing I noticed: I just visited my profile for the first time in a year or two (?), and being curious about the updates in the personalize part of site, and decided to check it out and update my info.
After updating information, the display showed the type all run together, instead of being divided in paragraphs, which still shows up in the typing window if I go to edit again. Not sure if this is how it always was or if it's a quirk in the new format that needs to be worked out?

Haven't explored all the newsies yet, but for so much stuff being packed on the home page, you've all made it look just MAAAAH-velous.

Just noticed one insignificant issue on the new Sott page. The browser tab blurb for each section one is in e.g. 'U.S news', 'UK& Euro news' etc. does not correspond to the actual section your in, the tab description seems to be one step behind. So if you're in the 'Big brother' section the tab actually reads 'Around the World'.

Again great job done with the new graphics, still getting used to it but is it really flashy and professional!

Another issue is that the user name is case-sensitive. If you register with a user name that has a capital character at the beginning, and log in with one that has all lower-case characters, you can't. An insignificant issue but it may cause confusion for some.

Oops, all better now.

D'OH... Fixed!

the look is much better for others. allin all .the people that brows these things will stop and read some as it is less overwhelming.
just my humble opinion

I seem to recall somebody posting about the size of reloading the whole SOTT homepage and how it was much bigger due to the use of more images.

We've been madly optimizing images and tweaking the layout, and so far I think we've chopped off over 300kB.

So, whoever that was, run your test again and report back if you don't mind!

;D

[I don't know if I was the "complainer", but here is what I found]

The pages loads better, quickly, and completely to the end.

Previously, the loading of the main SOTT page would load up
to say 95% completion sluggishly, but it would take longer to
completely load the last 5% which was significantly delayed.

I meant the general layout is more "friendly" to the eyes.

Curious...

Clicking on the Sott Logo (top/center) in sott.net
resulted in the status bar:

Read: 66.90.101.64

WHOIS says:

Domain Name: FDCSERVERS.NET

Administrative Contact:
kral, petr petr@fdcservers.net
141 w jackson blvd
#1135
Chicago, IL 60604
US
3124236675

Is this normal?

Well in my case nothing appears ?

Clearly, there is a active link on the SOTT Logo - but to what/where?

Depending on the browser used::

1) Firefox (on Linux) only shows a stuck status bar message (Read: 66.90.101.64)
but I am seeing, but not able to capture, multiple redirections in the
status bar, the last being: Read: 66.90.101.64

2) Epiphany (on Linux) shows a blank popup with no window adornment, so
this tells me that *something* is being called resulting in this popup.

3) IE-6 (on Windows 2000) shows redirection to sott.net but there is a
page error but the redirection is clean, goes directly to sott.net.

Bottom line: What is it, should this active link should be doing? I am assuming
that it is redirecting to sott.net, unlike that of Firefox which seems to be redirecting
elsewhere and maybe in the end redirected to sott.net? I have not tried other
browsers though (Safari, ...)

New Sott categories

Today I have seen "sot is down" and now :) see new categories:) Great WORK!:)

 I like it... and such lightning speed

It will be up and down as Mr. Scott sorts out the bugs.

The new categories represent the new way of looking at the world - the marriage of science and mysticism!
