Sourdough Bread

I may be off but I don't see what's wrong about celebrating with special meals - like, something different but still healthy - on special occasions ((like X-mas/Winter solstice)? I like to picture our paleo ancestors sharing meals in front of the fire - as a way to bond, share stories, etc. I believe this meal sharing/celebrating can have a symbolic, spiritual value as well.

If it's very fatty, you can add some water both to cool it down and water it down a bit. I've been adding a dash or two of apple cider vinegar to my broth. I like the taste of vinegar and it seems to help me with digestion.

I cooked a new batch of broth last night -- I just tried adding vinegar to it this morning and love it, so thanks for the suggestion!

I tend to agree. Humans are both social and symbolic creatures. There is a passage in "The Apocalypse: Comets, Asteroids and Cyclical Catastrophes" where the notion of sharing food as a fundamentally human attribute is discussed.
Other then that, living in this 3D reality is depressing enough, having some good moments with family and friends from time to time does not hurt as long as it does not undermine health (through unhealthy food for instance) :)

I don't know when, but someday I hope to make my "gold proof shortbread cookies". "Gold proof" because I want to sweeten them with d-ribose. I may, of course, drop the idea in favor of a more economical use of my money. But you can bet I would take them in small amounts and savor every bite! ;D

Certainly, there is an important social (and by extension spiritual) aspect to sharing meals. I don't mean to suggest doing away with this. I rather think there is a difference between sharing a meal during a celebration and having a meal (by oneself or with others) as the celebration.

I think the former expresses a social aspect of celebration; it is a way, as you noted, for people to bond - and, more broadly, to express their humanity by sharing something essential and life-giving; then, whether or not a meal is 'special' or not probably doesn't matter, because the celebration is alive in itself - the social dynamics being what makes it 'alive' and real. Whereas I think the latter confuses an outward form of celebration with its social (and spiritual) essence; something material takes the focus (stimulating the taste buds and the pleasure center of the brain for its own sake), this making for a poor substitution.

I think the present cultural concept of food in relation to celebration - where it takes the spotlight, its form and taste and so forth becoming the point of focus - stems from the same old materialistic corruption of culture that has twisted so many things.

No, I haven`t looked online, but I can try that.
I`m not sure how well they ship though.

Bear season starts tomorrow, and Deer season in a couple of months.
If we`re lucky this year, one of my sons will bring something home and I`ll have a good suppy of fresh bones.
I won`t throw them all away anymore!

I wouldn`t have thought that getting good bones would be so difficult.
I`m going to try it with the pork bones, if it doesn`t work then it doesn`t, but I`d rather try it, then not.

Hi Meager,

have you also tried different kinds of bones? Cause I started with ox marrow bones and these ones had also a more funny smell overall. So I did look for something else and ended up just with some pig bones and there is a huge difference in smell and taste for the better imo. Maybe worth a try.
