Notice that people heard an explosion-like sound prior to the appearance of the crack. Also, go to the link to see the video.

Yes and a truly scary one...

The picture of the sinkhole appears as if it is very very deep and perfectly symmetrical. I have been exploring Richard Hoagland's web site Enterprise lately and he claims that structures that are prefect geometrically, straight lines, squares, circles, hexagons, pentagons etc are man made. Decided to look at other sites that featured this news, with the same pictures that are reported as being from the President of that country...Comments seem to mirror the comments on this site, creepy strange, one that popped up a few times was "Looks like something out of the movie 2012" This is odd, very strange indeed, I still have not discovered what constitutes the Tropical Storm, air velocity etc and how this created flooding, etc...CNN definitely left it up to the readers imagination to actually decide or try to get the details of the events that they don't explain at all in this story...Could it be photo shopped? That was another common response to the story in the comment sections.

The sinkhole that opened the Gates of Hell in Guatemala is nothing compared to the astonishing landslide that destroyed Manaus port, on the Rio Grande riverside. Land liquefied and the river ate it all, humans and their industry included.

This CCTV video shows the catastrophe that happened at the Brazilian port on October 17. It's believed that at least twelve people lost their lives during the disaster. Two of them, the operators of the excavator, were confirmed dead.

According to port owner, José Ferreira de Oliveira, the almost 1,000-foot-long landslide happened when workers were using heavy machinery to build a ramp to connect the port to the Rio Negro. The new ramp was being built because the river level had dropped from 98 feet to 44 feet, taking its shore away from the port side.

Everything went to hell in seconds, with more than fifty containers loaded with electronic and chemical products, trucks and port equipment falling into the black river as concrete and asphalt crumbled without support. The landslide also took a river barge full of diesel oil, according to the authorities, and are still looking for victims. [R7—In Portuguese][

Woah! :scared:
Their is a moment in that video where it all appears to be 'sinking' at the same point in the river....I wonder if its a sink-hole opening up in the river??

Hi Volma

You might want to take Richard Hoagland's information with a huge grain of salt. He is a known disinformation artist. As far as circles occurring naturally in nature, they're all over the place, in the form of spheres. Just consider the planets, as a start. If you'd like to use the search engine here on the forum, you can find out more about Hoagland.

Thanks Keit, this site looks like worth a check from time to time.

Yeah, definitely. And since he has such an impressive collection stretching years back, left him a message saying just that and also asking if he noticed any increase in sinkholes around the world. But my comment was removed. I wonder why. Certainly made sure not to sound like a loonie, just curious.

It appears it was a displaying glitch of some sort, because today saw his reply. He wrote:

Yes and no. As infrastructure grows and ages, and human’s building expansion increases there are more man-made sinkholes. I think sinkhole frequency will peak between ice ages, which might be right now.

That's interesting. Asked him for clarification on the "between ice ages" angle.

Sinkhole in Mexico City, _http://www.eluniversal.com.mx/notas/854121.html, (it is spanish, although it has good pictures) the report say that it was due to climate conditions (it rained constantly all weekend-Huracan Carlota), the sinkhole is next to a residence construction site. From what I remembered there has been other sinkholes near construction sites or due to water leaks, so the government say.

There are so many, once you look for them. Here are some:

One of the problems of Mexico City is its sinking, built in a lake bed and adding it the exploitation of the aquifers below it. And most of all, due to the incompetence of our governments (past, present and most probably ...future)
