Exactly right. I have seen this same game played in sub prime finance, alt - a finance, FHA, FNMA, monetization in general, MLM, HYIP, stocks of all kinds, commodies, FOREX, etc.

Here is a good sub prime example, and there is much more info that goes with it, but you will get the gerneral gist and see it is the same thing. The name of the article is "Behind Bravado: Certain Doom". ( 7 pages)

Indeed, I think we might want to get the local area newspaper 'Depeche du Midi' on to the story. I mean, with the paucity of real news in the area, I think they might jump at the chance of the headline:

'Toulouse University Hosts Science Academy Run by Known Financial Scam Artist'

It's so fascinating to observe such pathological behavior in action and it's amazing what dirt can be dug up simply by searching the internet. Those videos on Youtube are just too much and the way he writes makes me surprised he's a professor!

I've posted a link to this thread on my research blog that's geared towards studying psychopathy to spread the word about this guy:

I can't believe the Toulouse University would knowingly allow this to happen... then again...

If you all knew how common this type of "game" is across the whole financial sector as whole, you would probably become a little ill. The same game is being played right now on the biggest scale ever known to man in the derivitaves market.

Common yes, these companies operate from A-Z on the TSX/DOW type listings around the globe every second of the day. How many BIG firm’s today started out in this way, fleecing their way to the top wearing a mask of legitimacy, and in this case, imo, with offered name hype of scientists, they expected to do very nicely.

Big/little - no matter. The only thing that ever changes is scale and window dressing. A lot of the big boys just start out on a regular exchange because they have the financial capital to do it. In that game, one just uses hinky book keeping practices and write downs. One cannot really ascertain the true worth of any of the major exchange companies either- the math is so wonky it would blow your mind.

When the sub prime market was imploding, I was near the front line of that. I helped with articles in the local paper- including the one I linked to. I called Bloomberg Financial. I called NY Times. The real scope of everything I have been telling you all in this thread never really went anywhere.

Heck- Maddoff was reported to the SEC for years- nothing happened. No one to this day has done a perp walk for all of the mortgage industry fraud and they likely will not. The derivitave scam is so large that the amount of phony debt outstanding is larger than every asset and monetary value that currently exists. The system is set up to encourage and protect this type of scam. I was in the mortgage industry for years, and the honest players either had to become crooked to compete or quit. But you are always looking at different faces of the same game, and it IS the global financial system currently.

One more bit on Ascension Securities activity, as it seems not posted yet:

http://boards.fool.co.uk/ascension-securities-bushveld-platinum-plc-10120565.aspx?sort=whole#10120565
Ascension Securities (FSA authorised) is selling Bushveld Platinum Plc, incorporated on 5 July 2006. AIM admission is anticipated in 4-6 months. The financial details are very similar to Allied Oil and Gas, another company for which AS are the Corporate Financial Advisors, only the names have changed (see http://boards.fool.co.uk/Message.asp?mid=10064161&sort=whole ).

Pre-Offer there are 50m existing shares. 11m new shares are being offered to private investors at 15p raising a total of £1.65m gross. The Offer Costs are £495k (30% of the gross, do you think most of this goes to Ascension?). The Offer raises £1.155m net. The company has borrowings of 135k which has already been spent.

Net asset value per share = 1.89p (£1.155m/61m) for which punters are asked to pay 15p!

Now Bushveld Platinum may be successful, but in my view the risk/reward ratio is against the PIs, who are putting up all the money and only getting 18% of the company. AS are valuing the original 50m shares at £7.5m and they were probably given away.

Perhaps shareholders are in good hands because "the Company has an experienced board and team of consultants who together have ...", but after the 3 directors brief biographies I read "The Company has no other staff". So they don't have a team of consultants!

Ascension Securities is the company that was heavily recommending New Millenium Resources (NML) just 3 months before it was suspended (its AIM listing was cancelled the following month). At the time of this recommendation I read NML's RNSs for the previous year and thought it was a 'basket' case.

The links provided in the above post and in the reply to it lead to the famous removed thread about AS.

One thing I find extraordinary about this case is how much information is out there in the open! (Like, all of it!) Wouldn't you think that by now some law-enforcement agency of any of the countries involved would have done something about it? But no - apparently authorities are too busy chasing the little people. And what about universities, don't they bother to do a little checking on their 'associates'? I just find it amazing how much conscienceless and not-very-bright people can get away with on this planet.

This may NOT be the same person but it's interesting that they have the same name:

What lies beneath
New Times investigates the underground world of oil and gas leasing

On Feb. 7, 2007, Excelaron, LLC, made one of the craziest bets on the Huasna Valley wagered in nearly 20 years. The company began buying up oil and gas lease rights and shortly thereafter applied in June to drill for oil within a 240-acre region of Howard Mankins’ ranch.

Throughout the history of oil prospecting in Huasna, the one constant result has been failure. As though to underscore it could succeed where others had failed, Excelaron obtained its first lease from a man who failed to profit from his attempt on the very same piece of land. Back then, that man was known as William Perrine, who was a Cal Poly student, stepson of a failed oil prospector, and self-proclaimed entrepreneur who pulled himself up by his bootstraps with dreams of making a big oil score. Originally Perrine had no intention of drilling for oil like his stepfather, John B. Deuel. He went to school to study farm management, but after Deuel died in 1971, leaving his mother “in very desperate financial circumstances,” Perrine agreed to try his hand at his stepfather’s wells.

Now, he’s known as Will Divine.

If you ask Divine for the real story of his enterprise in Huasna Valley, he’d probably say everyone so far has it all wrong: He’s not a villain or some stereotypical industry giant who tried to shove a rusted pipe into any ground that smelled like oil and profit. During the past 25 years or so, he underwent a transformation, literally and figuratively. After leaving SLO County in the late ‘80s, bankrupted by his attempts to find fortune in Huasna, Divine moved to Los Angeles, joined a monastery, changed his name, and is now a self-proclaimed environmentalist.

Divine tells one hell of a sob story. He had to borrow money to buy bullets to shoot his three-legged dog after it was hit by a car. He quit school because of chronic fatigue syndrome, Lyme disease, and other health problems. He took over the Huasna project from a company managed by a guy who worked as a researcher for women’s makeup products and another company that specialized in herpes research.

As Divine tells his story, it’s not about his failed attempts to drill oil in Huasna, or abandoned wells there, or his ties to Excelaron. “The real story is a guy who actually, I think, tried to do something heroic and tried to do something of which he didn’t really have the resources to do it,” Divine said, referring to himself. “He wasn’t this money-bags oil company. He was a guy who worked in the oil fields with nothing. He borrowed money from his mother who had faith in him, he tried to get it going, he went broke. And he came back … because it’s something that remained unfinished.”

In 2007, almost 20 years after his first attempt to squeeze a profit out of Huasna, Divine came back to SLO County with dreams of drilling again on the same property. His original attempt was funded by his mother and himself. They bought their own equipment and built the company Deuel Petroleum from the ground up. But oil prices plummeted, leaving Divine broke and homeless, living in a metal container at one of the drilling sites. On his return, Divine signed away Deuel Petroleum’s Huasna oil leases to Excelaron through an Australian oil guru, Grant Jagelman. According to the agreement filed with the San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder, the Deuel Petroleum lease involved just one parcel, which was owned by a family trust, care of Howard Mankins. Then, on Feb. 27, 2007, Excelaron purchased the oil lease rights to about 400 acres spanning 14 parcels. In that lease, Divine signed as president of Excelaron.
