Tool-Parabola

I was listening to this cd the other day (Lateralus) and thought this song Parabola might be interesting to the people who have not listened to much Tool. If you do listen to Tool, I don't need to tell you that they rock! ;D Anyway, this video on YouTube could also be up for some very interesting interpretation by this community. Maynard James Keenan is the lead singer and also has another band called A Perfect Circle if anyone is interested.

or the lyrics are:

Tool-Parabola

We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment,
We are choosing to be here right now. Hold on, stay inside
This holy reality, this holy experience.
Choosing to be here in

This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in
This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal
All this pain is an illusion.

Alive, I

In this holy reality, in this holy experience. Choosing to be here in

This body. This body holding me. Be my reminder here that I am not alone in
This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal
All this pain is an illusion.

Twirling round with this familiar parable.
Spinning, weaving round each new experience.
Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing.

This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality.
Embrace this moment. Remember. we are eternal.
all this pain is an illusion.

Lunch Music.

What does that mean?

Concepts in this song seem to celebrate experiences here for their own sake without mentioning why or anything practical about being in a body or growing a soul.

It’s a call to a sort of complacency or resolution about this existence which a little observation will show there’s little holy about it apart from the opportunity to evolve beyond it.

Try selling:
Embrace this moment. Remember. we are eternal.
all this pain is an illusion.
To the Japanese or Iraqis.

To me it’s a New Age verse to sing while being served as lunch.

Well, did you even watch the video, there is a whole lot more to it than theat, and there is some wonderful commentary from the people on YouTube, read the quote from rog 27 s and cedar tree5 below the video. I don't want to steal commentary from anyone, but I couldn't explain it much better myself. Also you have to really appreciate the art in the end of the video. Another thing would also be that this song is part of an entire ALBUM, maybe it wraps a whole lot more than you together with more than one song. Tool is nothing short of GENIUS!!

Then, it would have been more externally considerate to post your thoughts clearly, as you have after being asked to do so, rather than posting a rather condescending one liner, as you initially did.

Not to mention the fact that the original poster is a relative newbie. It's quite likely Crystia24 has no idea what "lunch music" would have referred to.

"All religion and associated dogmas are man-made fictions. Reality is before our very eyes. Reality is "What Is". Its very "Is-ness" IS sacred, holy, and whole. Just being able to be aware of this present moment is a precious gift. That is what this song is proclaiming. If you are a human capable of self-reflective thought, you have already won the war of existence. "~ALIVE!!!!~" is the lyrical climax of the song. You are the Universe becoming aware of itself. YOU should feel grateful."

"Think of it this way. The black man represents our higher self because he seems more spiritual and intuitive than the little blue guy, which would be our ego. While he was admiring nature by glancing out the window, his ego was killed by the big blue ball, which I consider God or something that is higher than us. After dissecting the blue guy and contemplating his new spiritual position, he went outside where he then picked up a leaf and offered it to the God or the blue ball....v

through that act of devotion he attained liberation and realized his true nature which is a eternal spiritual soul living in a temporary material world....does that make sense?"

I will add some more of my own commentary later, but I am messing around on the internet during my breaks at work :) In the meantime here are the lyrics to Lateralus :) Also way awesome, tell me that the writer has reached some level of enlightment or new conciousness!!!

Black then white are
All I see
In my infancy
Red and yellow then came to be
Reaching out to me
Lets me see

As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
Drawn beyond the lines of reason
Push the envelope
Watch it bend

Overthinking
Overanalyzing
Separates the body from the mind
Withering my intuition
Missing opportunities and I must
Feed my will to feel thy moment
Drawing way outside the lines

Black then white are
All I see
In my infancy
Red and yellow then came to be
Reaching out to me
Lets me see

There is
So much
More and
Beckons me
To look through to these
Infinite possibilities

As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
Drawn outside the lines of reason
Push the envelope
Watch it bend

Overthinking
Overanalyzing
Separates the body from the mind
Withering my intuition
Leaving opportunities behind

Feed my will to feel this moment
Urging me to cross the line
Reaching out to embrace the random
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come

I embrace my
Desire to
I embrace my
Desire to
Feel the rythym, to
Feel connected
Enough to step aside and
Weep like a widow, to
Feel inspired, to
Fathom the power, to
Witness the beauty, to
Bathe in the fountain, to
Swing on the spiral, to
Swing on the spiral, to
Swing on the spiral of
Our divinity and
Still be a human

With my feet upon the ground
I lose myself between the sounds
And open wide to suck it in
I feel it move across my skin
I'm reaching up and reaching out
I'm reaching for the random, for
Whatever will bewilder me
Whatever will be willed on me
And following our will and wind
We may just go where no one's been
We'll ride the spiral to the end
May just go where no one's been
Spiral out
Keep going
Spiral out
Keep going
Spiral out
Keep going
Spiral out
Keep going

I see that now. Thanks.

Anart,

Having conversed with you yesterday, I would like you to know that these Lateralus lyrics are what I have figured out, that I have been excited about this whole time!!! It's funny, Tool has been my favorite band since junior high school, and I just finally understood it!!! I love them sooo much more. Maybe you have to experience to understand idk. Any I will definatately be putting out more commentary when I get off work. And hey, thanks for sticking up for me...not that u need to be thatnked, or wouldn't have done it for anybody, it is appreciated ;)

Well, to keep it simple, I would strongly caution you on believing the idea that just because someone writes a song that you relate to, it means that they have, "reached some level of enlightment or new conciousness!!!", as you put it. There is just no reason to think that. Song lyrics come from many places. Also, my post to Jerry was for Jerry - he has a tendency to shoot from the hip, when he's been around long enough to know that he needs to check his holster first from time to time.

Can I just shake everyone here and say "Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up!
"Overthinking
Overanalyzing
Separates the body from the mind
Withering my intuition
Missing opportunities and I must
Feed my will to feel thy moment
Drawing way outside the lines"
All this studying everyone is doing--> separating the body from mind, you have to FEEL IT ("it in HUGE caps)

"There is
So much
More and
Beckons me
To look through to these
Infinite possibilities"

"Feed my will to feel this moment

FEEL the rythym, FEEL connected. I am telling you!!!

"With my feet upon the ground

He is FEELING the vibration of the universe, of everything. Losing himself "between the sounds" the vibration! being aware and seeing the universe and being bewildered. This is being awake! Not phycology of finding it, you have to FEEL it! You have to "Reaching out to embrace the random
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come" embrace fate, embrace the universe, let go and go with the flow and it will take you there! I am not a crazy person that just showed up here one day. If I know what IT is everyone is trying to find, I think that that should be of some interest to someone here! I may not be as talented as Tool trying to wake people up, but rest assured, I am going to doing something to try to wake up the people on this Earth!

Here is an article on Tool and enlightenment I googled just now ---> Since I am so hard to believe _http://www.4thkingdom.com/etc/post109824.html Wow, it almost identically reitterates things I just said before I read it ;)

Crystla24 do you really think saying to someone: "Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up!" would change anything?

One of the main characteristics of someone who is able to help is his/her hability to know and understand others in deep, but, what do you know about us? :)

Another characteristic is the hability to give specific content to each situation but you are too absorbed in your own experience as to be able to see the situation.

Be aware of that part in you wich is easily seeing faults in others and greatness in yourself.

No. This is 'blissing out'. Losing oneself is not awakening. Crystla, please do us a favor and read the material in the Wave Series completely before continuing to post. It is important. I don't think you have any negative intentions here, nor do I think you are a 'crazy person' - I just think you really need to just stop, realize you may not be seeing the complete picture and to look for and digest more information so you can get yourself moving in a more objectively productive direction.
