June 23, 2017 - Offutt Air Force Base, which serves as home to the nation’s four E-4B aircraft, was hit by the tornado June 16. The planes are used by the Secretary of Defense and Secretary of State for international visits and maintain all communications, including with the nation’s nuclear missile silos and nuclear submarines, in case of an attack.

Ten aircraft, including the two 747s, were damaged by the tornado, said Capt. Mark Graff, an Air Force spokesman.

Graff said the other two 747s were not damaged by the tornado and can be used as the national airborne operations center.

Of the base’s eight RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft, seven had minor damage, Graff said. Six of the damaged planes have been returned to flight status, he said.

The tornado was fast-moving, said Col. Pat Ryder, an Air Force spokesman.

“They attempted to hangar as many [planes] as they could,” he said. “Obviously some were damaged.”

Ryder said the primary E-4B – the one that is always on alert status ready to take off in case of emergency – was not affected.

The Air Force is still assessing the level of damage to the two other 747s, Ryder said.

The tornado also damaged buildings and trees on the Nebraska base.

The most violent type of weather storm on planet Earth is a tornado. Meteorologists tell us that the unstable air in a thunderstorm produces updrafts and downdrafts, which interacts with a wind shear to ultimately create a tornado vortex. But many scientists acknowledge that the exact processes that cause a tornado remain mysterious. In recent Space News episodes, Thunderbolts contributor Andrew Hall has explored the electrical genesis of lightning and other earthly weather phenomena. Today, Hall offers his own thesis on the electrical genesis of tornadoes on Earth

Typhoon Hato, one of the strongest storms on record, made landfall in China’s gambling hub of Macao on Wednesday, killing eight people and hurting 153, according to the latest estimates by local authorities, cited by the China Central Television.

The storm also tore through coastal Hong Kong, Guangdong, and Fujian provinces in China’s southeast. Authorities in Guangdong’s city of Zhuhai said on the Weibo microblog two residents had perished and 275 homes had been reduced to rubble.

Another two people died in Guangdong's prefecture-level city of Zhongshan in the Pearl River Delta. Strong gusts of wind uprooted trees and tore down power cables, while high tides along the waterfront swept away bridges and damaged sea ports.

The typhoon is predicted to grow weaker as it moves deeper into mainland China on Thursday. The current estimates of the damage stand at $1.02 billion.

Following Friday's landfall of Hurricane Harvey, at the time a dangerous Category 4 storm, many affected regions have been declared disaster areas.

As the slow-moving storm continues to dump record-breaking amounts rain throughout the state, weather officials and local emergency services are warning of heavy flooding and tornadoes in the region. Several counties have reported rainfall levels at their highest since World War II.

Reports are coming in of additional tornadoes in the regions northwest of Houston, America's 4th largest city.

As the storm, following predictions, stalls over the region, intense amounts of rainfall continue to hammer the area, and meteorologists are warning of another two days of the same conditions, which are likely to lead to extremely dangerous flood levels. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

Slow-moving Hurricane Harvey - the strongest storm to hit the US in over ten years - is knocking down structures and flooding rivers in the region, and much more rain is expected over the next three to five days.

A powerful and slow-moving Category 4 hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico that came ashore in southwest Texas on Friday night — lashing the coast with winds of up to 130 mph and dumping huge quantities of rain — has resulted in widespread damage and flooding as rain, wind and tornadoes continue to pound the region.

While Harvey has now weakened to a tropical storm it's walking pace over hundreds of mile square miles of low-lying coastal territory is resulting in some the highest rainfall predictions in the history of weather record-keeping, as residents and first-responders prepare themselves for the worst.

On Friday night, the eye of the hurricane hit the Texas coastal city of Rockport "right on the nose," and left "widespread devastation," according to the city's mayor, cited by multiple sources.

On Saturday morning an estimated 300,000 consumers were left without power along the Texas coast and at least 20 inches of rain had been recorded in some locations.

Following a Friday request from Texas Governor Gregg Abbott, US President Donald Trump signed on order declaring the region a disaster area, authorizing the release of millions of dollars in emergency aid.

Current [b meteorological forecasting is calling for as much as 30 inches of rain by Wednesday, with some areas predicted to receive as much as 40 inches, [/b] cited by Stripes.com.

While local officials did not downplay the seriousness of the storm, they also did not issue mandatory evacuation orders, either.

"We are not having a hurricane," said a top elected official for the county that includes Houston, the fourth largest city in the US, "We are having a rain event."

Harvey is the strongest hurricane to hit Texas since Hurricane Carla in 1961.

The strongest hurricane to hit the US in 13 years smashed into the Texas coast then moved inland on Saturday, deluging Houston, killing at least one person, and bringing fears of disastrous sustained flooding in the country’s fourth-largest city.

More than 300,000 customers across Texas were without electricity as Harvey threatened to stall, setting up for several days of rainfall that could tally 50in (127cm), more than 4ft (1.2m), by Wednesday in some spots. Texas governor Greg Abbott said about 20in (50.8cm) of rain had fallen in the Corpus Christi area and 16in (40.6cm) in the Houston region.

“There is the potential for very dramatic flooding,” he said in an afternoon media conference in Austin. “Our biggest concern is the possibility of between 20 and 30 more inches of rain in areas ranging from Corpus Christi over to Houston.”

Abbott expanded his declaration of a state of disaster by 20 counties, to 50. Numbers of injuries and fatalities were not yet clear, he said.

In the small seaside town of Rockport, which was directly in Harvey’s path when it came ashore and was particularly badly hit. One person was killed in a house fire, the mayor said. The Coast Guard reported that helicopters rescued 18 people from boats and barges in distress.

Dozens of Houston-area roads were reported flooded. As of midday, 704 flight cancellations had been announced at George Bush Intercontinental airport and 123 at Hobby, though a break in bad weather allowed departures to resume at Bush.

Brock Long, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema), said on Twitter that the storm was transitioning into a “deadly inland event”.

In a Saturday morning update, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said that though winds had slowed to a maximum 80mph, Harvey was “moving slowly over Texas producing torrential rains … catastrophic flooding expected over the next few days”. (Article continues.)

Four cruise ships headed toward the Texas port of Galveston carrying some 20,000 passengers cannot return home following the destruction wrought by Hurricane Harvey, now a tropical storm but still packing heavy rains.

Thousands of Cruise Ship Passengers Stranded by Hurricane Harvey
https://sputniknews.com/us/201708261056819839-cruise-ships-hurricane-harvey-gulf/

According to ABC13, three of the ships are owned by Carnival Cruises and a remaining boat belongs to Royal Caribbean. The Carnival Freedom and Valor ships, diverted to New Orleans to stock up on food and supplies, offered passengers the choice of making their own way to Galveston or re-boarding the ship, which will return to the Texas port city when officials have deemed maritime traffic safe.

Carnival Corp said in a statement on its Facebook page, "Given the severity and projected path of the storm along with potential challenges guests may encounter attempting to travel back to Galveston independently, we are strongly encouraging them to remain on board as we intend to return the ships to Galveston as soon as feasible."

The Carnival Breeze ship still remains in Cozumel, Mexico, and will return to Galveston on Sunday, while the Royal Caribbean's Liberty of Seas cruise ship left Cozumel on Friday and is scheduled to reach Galveston on Sunday.

"We will continue to remain in close contact with port officials regarding their plans to re-open once the storm has passed," spokeswoman Christine de la Huerta for the Carnival Corporation said.

Peter Simons, the port's interim director, told the Houston Chronicle newspaper that officials are still ascertaining whether the ships can return on Sunday.

"We're working with the cruise lines, the Coast Guard and the pilots to see what can be done to bring the cruise ships in as quickly but as safely as possible," Simons said in a statement.

The slow-moving storm is projected to remain in the region for at least three more days, dumping heavy rains in the area and causing massive flooding.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — The Latest on Hurricane Harvey (all times local):

Harvey staying put in Texas
https://www.ksl.com/?nid=157&sid=45559611&title=the-latest-hurricane-causes-widespread-damage-in-rockport

7 p.m. - The National Hurricane Center says torrential rain will continue as Tropical Storm Harvey drifts east-northeastward with very little additional motion expected over the next few days.

The center said in its Saturday evening update that maximum sustained winds have now decreased to 60 mph (96 kph) and additional weakening of winds is expected during the next day or two.

The tropical storm's center was about 40 miles (64 km) northwest of Victoria, Texas. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km) from the storm's center.

Harvey came ashore in Texas on Friday night as the strongest hurricane to hit the U.S. in more than a decade. A judge has confirmed one death and about a dozen injuries from the storm.

6:50 p.m. - Authorities say sheriff's deputies in the Houston area saw a tornado touchdown about four times near Cypress as Tropical Storm Harvey pounds Texas.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office posted a video to Facebook on Saturday of Sheriff Ed Gonzalez speaking to residents and news media about the tornado. Gonzalez says a car with a driver inside was flipped over by the tornado, but is OK. Gonzalez says he and deputies were seeing extensive damage to roofs, but had not heard of any injuries.

National Weather Service meteorologist Wendy Wong says that numerous tornadoes spawned by Harvey caused damage in Houston and the surrounding area — from around Matagorda on the coast to the Cypress area in the north. She said homes, vehicles and buildings were damaged.

More than a dozen Texas counties were under a tornado watch Saturday night.

Harvey came ashore as a Category 4 hurricane Friday night but has since been downgraded to a tropical storm.

6:15 p.m. - The U.S. Coast Guard has stationed rescue boats and planes at several locations around parts of Southeast Texas affected by Tropical Storm Harvey.

The Coast Guard's Houston-Galveston sector protects the coastline near the nation's fourth-largest city, a region home to a critical port and major oil refineries.

Capt. Kevin Oditt, the sector commander, told reporters Saturday that he's confident the refineries have made contingency plans for the rain and winds expected to pelt the area for several days.

The Coast Guard closed the Port of Houston Friday. At least two dozen boats in the sector are on standby for water rescues or other emergencies.

Further south along the Texas Gulf Coast, Coast Guard officers pulled 20 people in separate rescues from boats and barges.

Harvey came ashore as a Category 4 hurricane Friday night but has since been downgraded to a tropical storm.

4:50 p.m. - Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards says the National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in the Cameron Parish town of Hackberry.

The tornado hit about 12:25 p.m. Saturday. Edwards says there were no reports of injuries or fatalities but there was "significant property damage."

Meteorologist Jared Rackley says officials have yet to survey the area, but photos show an overturned camper and other damage.

In Texas, a judge has confirmed one death in Rockport that's being blamed on Harvey. Emergency crews are searching for victims.

Rackley says a tornado watch is up for most of southwest Louisiana and south-central Louisiana until 2 a.m. Sunday.

He urges residents to remain on guard as a heavy amount of rain was expected to fall on the state over the next several days.

Hot on the heels of Hato - the worst storm to hit the Chinese autonomous city of Macau in 35 years - a new urgent warning has been issued for Pakhar, another fast-approaching and potentially deadly typhoon set to strike the region in just seven days.

Warning of Second Typhoon in One Week Causes Panic in Macau, Hong Kong
https://sputniknews.com/environment/201708271056821109-second-typhoon-in-one-week/

Hato, which devastated Macau and parts of Kong Kong on Wednesday, will soon see another potentially deadly typhoon, as the city's Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau issued a new storm warning at 11.30pm Saturday.

The typhoon Pakhar, while still in its early stages, could strike the beleaguered region encompassing Macau and Hong Kong late Monday or early Tuesday, according to reports, bringing torrential rain and high winds, similar to those brought just last week by Hato, in which an estimated 21 were killed in Macau alone, and many more were injured.

Following the destruction wrought by Hato — and with the imminent arrival of Pakhar — the city of Macau, in an unprecedented move, invited elements of the People's Liberation Army to assist with road cleanup.

The former Portuguese colony — which was handed back to Beijing in 1999 — is granted some autonomy for self-governance, and has not seen China's army on its soil since the handover.

Many Macau residents remain without power, as emergency teams work to bring fresh drinking water as well as recover the dead and attend to the wounded.

On Saturday, an estimated 20 water trucks were dispatched to Macau and some 360,000 bottles of water were imported. Four public shower facilities were also made available to residents, according to the South China Morning Post (SCMP).

According to the Hong Kong Observatory, Pakhar is predicted to be an estimated 70 percent chance of striking the Macau/Hong Kong area early next week, cited by SCMP.

Typhoon Pakhar has hit southern China just several days after the disastrous storm Hato, local media reported Sunday.

Severe Tropical Typhoon Hits Chinese South Coast for Second Time Within One Week (Photos - Video)
https://sputniknews.com/asia/201708271056824423-pakhar-china-typhoon/

Earlier in the day, a tropical cyclone alert was issued by the authorities in the southern autonomous regions of Macau and Hong Kong over the approaching storm.

Pakhar reached the coast of China's southeastern Guangdong province around 09:00 local time [01:00 GMT], the CCTV state broadcaster reported.

Maximum wind speeds in the region have reached 33 meters per second (42 feet per second).

A number of southern Chinese regions including Macau and Hong Kong were hit by Hato on Wednesday, prompting the authorities to issue the highest storm alert level in years. The storm claimed the lives of 17 people.

The highest number of storm-related deaths, 9 people, occurred in Macau. The local authorities have involved the People's Liberation Army in coping with the aftermath of the storm for the first time in history.

Flights at the Hong Kong International Airport have been seriously disrupted by the Pakhar typhoon approaching China's southern coast, an airport authority spokesman said Sunday.

Earlier in the day, the 8th cyclone alert level out of a maximum of 10 was issued by the authorities in the Chinese southern autonomous regions of Macau and Hong Kong over the nearing storm.

"The operations are quite severely affected," the airport spokesman said, as quoted by South China Morning Post.

At least 300 flights had been delayed or canceled at the airport. At least 20 planes were stuck on the runway, while another 30 were stuck at the terminal, according to pilots cited in the publication.

By 12:00 p.m. local time (04:00 GMT) check-in procedures were suspended by all the airlines operating at the airport until 02:00 p.m.

Hurricane Harvey still poses a deadly threat across the US Gulf Coast.

Danger Persists on US Gulf Coast Despite Weakening Harvey – Hurricane Center
https://sputniknews.com/us/201708271056825098-us-hurricane-danger-gulf-coast/

Hurricane Harvey continues to pose a deadly threat across the US Gulf Coast despite its gradual easing, the country’s National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in a statement on Sunday.

While Harvey's winds are decreasing, life threatening hazards will continue from heavy rainfall over much of southeastern Texas and from storm surge along portions of the Texas coast," the statement read.

The NHC is expecting "catastrophic and life-threatening" flooding across the middle and upper part of the Texas coast, which may last through Thursday.

"A Storm Surge Warning remains in effect for portions of the Texas coast. Life-threatening storm surge flooding will be slow to recede due to the slow motion of Harvey and a prolonged period of onshore flow," the statement said.

Earlier on Sunday, media reported the death of three people in Aransas County due to the storm, while local authorities in Houston and Rockport confirmed the death of two people in the storm.

The US Coast Guard said in a press release that it had rescued 20 people and continued to assist people in need of help.

Harvey began to move onshore on the central coast of Texas early on Saturday. The hurricane was downgraded to a tropical storm by the NHC later on the same day. Harvey is the largest storm to hit the United States since the disastrous Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Hurricane Harvey, now a tropical storm, battered the Texas coast, where damage was widespread following the storm's landfall.

Tropical Storm Harvey Shreds Texas Coast, Leaving At Least 1 Dead; Residents Ordered to Stay Out of Port Lavaca, Port Aransas (Photos - Video)
https://weather.com/storms/hurricane/news/hurricane-harvey-texas-impacts

At least one person is dead after Tropical Storm Harvey roared into the south Texas Coast Friday as a Category 4 hurricane.

According to media reports, a man was killed when his house caught fire at the height of the storm.

Officials in several coastal Texas towns asked residents to stay away until they could get a better scope of the destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey, now a tropical storm, during its Friday night landfall.

A curfew was in place in Port Lavaca because all power, water and sewer services were down, the city's police department said in a Facebook post.

In Port Aransas, Mayor Charles Bujan told The Weather Channel there were no fatalities but damage was widespread – including a trailer park that is 100-percent destroyed. Search and rescue operations continued in the town Saturday afternoon, and all residents were asked to stay out of the town because damage was severe and authorities needed more time to survey, KIII-TV reported.

During a Saturday press conference, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott also confirmed that no deaths have been reported and noted that it's too early to speculate how much property damage the storm has incurred.

It's believed as many as 100 people stayed in Port Aransas to ride out the storm Friday night, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times reported.

'Widespread Devastation' in Rockport - Buildings were ripped to shreds in Rockport and firefighters were unable to respond to pleas for help in the hours following Hurricane Harvey's Friday night landfall along the Texas coast.

In Rockport, a town of about 10,000 located on Aransas Bay, KTRK-TV reported 10 people sustained injuries when the roof of a senior housing complex collapsed during the storm. The severity of those injuries was unknown.

"We know there is widespread devastation," Rockport Mayor CJ Wax said during a Saturday morning interview with The Weather Channel. "I think it’s safe to say we took a Cat. 4 (hurricane) right on the nose, and we’d appreciate everyone’s prayers."

Firefighters in Rockport said they wouldn't be able to respond to emergency calls until conditions improved, KTRK also reported.

"There's nothing we can do at this moment," Rockport volunteer fire department Chief Steve Sims told KTRK. "We are anxious to get out there and make assessments, but we're hunkered down for now."

Rockport City Manager Kevin Carruth told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times that an unknown number of buildings were destroyed by Harvey's punishing winds. Earlier reports that Rockport High School had been destroyed were inaccurate, the report added, but the structure did sustain heavy damage.

"A part of the roof has caved in, but the reports that buildings have disappeared don’t appear to be accurate," volunteer fire department spokeswoman Gillian Cox told the Caller-Times.

About 128 people were evacuated from a Fairfield Inn in Rockport after the hotel suffered severe damage, according to a National Weather Service report.

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued four people from the vessel Signet Enterprise Saturday near Port Aransas, according to DVIDS. In total, 15 people have been rescued from vessels.

More than 300,000 customers have lost power in Texas during the storm.

Damage Near Houston May Have Been Caused by Tornadoes - In Fort Bend County, roofs were torn off homes and trees were scattered across roads in the Sienna Plantation neighborhood, and the damage may have been caused by a tornado. Ridge Point High School also suffered damage during the storm, according to KTRK.

At least 50 homes were damaged in the area during the powerful storm, KHOU.com reported. No major injuries were reported, but a deputy was blown off the road while responding to the situation, the report added.

Later Saturday morning, damage was also reported in the town of Katy and may have been caused by a tornado. Images on social media showed heavy damage to structures in the town; no injuries were reported, according to a separate KTRK report.

Residents in Montgomery County will be unable to return home for an extended period of time because of a power transmission issue, a spokesman told KHOU. Authorities will be putting up roadblocks and only workers at the chemical plant will be permitted through the barriers. County officials say it could be days before the mandatory evacuation is lifted and residents can return home. Evacuees in San Antonio are also being told to stay out while crews clear roads.

Gov. Abbott has waived hotel taxes on all evacuees and first responders.

Cruise Ships Unable to Return to Galveston - Some 20,000 passengers on four cruise ships were stranded in the Gulf of Mexico as the hurricane made conditions too dangerous to return to Galveston, KTRK-TV reported. The Carnival Valor and Carnival Freedom, which planned to return to Galveston on Friday, will instead sail to New Orleans, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The Carnival Breeze stayed in Cozumel Friday night and was expected to depart for Galveston Saturday, while the Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas was expected to wait until Sunday to sail back to Texas, the report added.

Corpus Christi Officials Issue Stern Warnings Before, During Storm - In Corpus Christi, the major city closest to the center of the storm, officials issued a boil water order Friday night.

"To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes," the order states. "The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes."

Melissa Munguia, the deputy emergency management coordinator in Nueces County, which includes Corpus Christi, told the Associated Press early Saturday that it could be several more hours before crews could fully assess the damage in coastal communities.

Officials say they have no idea how many residents voluntarily evacuated the city of 325,000 and nearby low-lying areas.

Those same officials warned that those who remained in the path of the powerful hurricane would be subjected to the storm's wrath for days.

"We’re suggesting if people are going to stay here, mark their arm with a Sharpie pen with their name and Social Security number," Rockport Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Rios told reporters Friday. "We hate to talk about things like that. It's not something we like to do but it’s the reality, people don’t listen."

Just hours before the hurricane made landfall, the governor and Houston leaders issued conflicting statements on evacuation.

Gov. Greg Abbott urged more people to flee, even if their cities were not in evacuation zones, while Houston authorities told people to remain in their homes and did not recommend widespread evacuations.

As the storm approached Friday night, President Donald Trump tweeted that he had signed a disaster proclamation unleashing "the full force of government help," at the request of Gov. Abbott, who earlier in the day warned that the storm would be "a very major disaster."

On Saturday, the president tweeted from Camp David that his administration is "leaving nothing to chance.” Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Trump will travel to Texas early next week. Trump reportedly instructed relevant departments and agencies to "stay fully engaged and positioned to support his number one priority of saving lives."

The Texas National Guard has deployed more than 1,000 personnel to assist, and more than 400 doctors, nurses and other medical professionals from around the nation were called in by the federal government. Two 250-bed medical units were also being deployed to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, while other federal medical units are available in Dallas.

The Texas National Guard deployed more than 1,000 personnel ahead of the storm to assist in rescues and aftermath.

The US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is expecting to spend the next couple years helping restore areas of Texas devastated by heavy flooding in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, according to the agency's administrator Brock Long.

"FEMA is going to be there for years. This disaster is going to be a landmark event… We're setting up and gearing up for the next couple years," Long told CNN on Sunday.

Long added that FEMA was responding to the most immediate consequences of the flooding, but it was also setting up teams that would focus on recovery housing and flood insurance programs.

The US Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District said Monday they are beginning to release water from the Addicks and Barker dams near Houston, Texas, due to the recent dramatic increase in water levels and subsequent risk of further flooding in the city.

"The Corps will start releasing around 800 cubic feet per second from each reservoir for a total of 1,600 c.f.s. [cubic feet per second]. Within the next 6 to 10 hours we will be releasing 4,000 c.f.s. from both reservoirs, for a combined total of 8,000 c.f.s.," the Corps said in a press release read.

Commenting on the move, Galveston District commander Col. Lars Zetterstrom said that residents close to the reservoirs should stay vigilant as water levels were rising rapidly.

"If we don’t begin releasing now, the volume of uncontrolled water around the dams will be higher and have a greater impact on the surrounding communities," Zetterstrom is quoted as saying in the press release.

Following water release from another dam in the area, the Lake Conroe dam, the Conroe city authorities recommended residents in six neighborhoods consider evacuating.

On Sunday, the officials called a mandatory evacuation for the residents of the McDade Estates neighborhood, which remains the only case of a mandatory evacuation in Conroe for now.

The US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has deployed more than 900 rescue workers on the ground in the state of Texas to provide assistance to victims of catastrophic flooding, the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement on Monday.

"As of last night, FEMA had more than 900 Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) personnel working to save lives in south Texas," the statement said.

FEMA was also sending vital supplies to Incident Support Bases near impacted areas in Texas and Louisiana, including more than 1 million liters of water, 1 million meals, 20,520 tarps and 70 generators.

Multiple other federal agencies were also helping state and local officials in Texas with the response to severe flooding in the state.

The National Guard Bureau activated 3,000 service members, and has over 1,000 personnel already in the region to assist in search and rescue and recovery missions, the statement said. The National Guard forces were working closely with the Texas and Louisiana National Guard to provide assistance to people on the ground.

The National Emergency Medical services activated 100 ambulances and 15 air ambulances for advanced and basic life support.

The Mobile Emergency Response Support deployed 65 personnel and ten mobile communication office vehicles to support Texas and Louisiana's emergency response communication needs.

FEMA also had more than 1,800 employees on the ground to support the response, alongside 341 Department of Homeland Security employees.

The American Red Cross was also mobilizing a massive relief effort to provide shelter and food to victims of the hurricane. More than 1,800 people took refuge in 34 Red Cross and community shelters in Texas.

The US Coast Guard deployed over 420 personnel to conduct sea operations in South Texas.

Multiple other federal agencies — including the US Army Corps of Engineers, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Department of Defense, Defense Logistics Agency, US Northern Command, US Department of Energy, US Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Communications Commission, US Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Interior, National Park Service and US Department of Transportation — were also assisting Texas and Louisiana in the response effort.

President Donald Trump will not visit the city of Houston during his trip to Texas on Tuesday to survey damage caused by hurricane Harvey, Governor Greg Abbott said in an interview.

"The place he will be going to will not be Houston so [he] will not be getting into harm’s way or interrupting the evacuations or emergency response in the Houston area," Abbott told CBS News on Monday. "He most likely will be going closer to where the hurricane hit land."

On Sunday, the White House announced Trump's plans to visit Texas, but has not yet specified where he is going in the state.

Moreover, President Donald Trump's cabinet has been providing exceptional level of assistance to the US state of Texas after hurricane Harvey hit the area, Governor Greg Abbott added.

"The engagement and response by the president, the White House, by his Cabinet, and by the FEMA [Federal Emergency Management Agency] have been actually remarkable," Abbott told CBS News. "They provided everything that we need. Whenever Texas asked for anything, the answer was yes."

The governor also said local authorities have been in constant contact with federal authorities and continue closely cooperating on assisting people affected by the hurricane.

Hurricane Harvey has halted the work of at least 10 oil refineries and 2 petrochemical facilities in the Gulf Coast area of the US, as well as causing shutdowns at over 100 oil rigs, contributing to a rise in fuel and crude oil prices in the US.

Fuel Prices Rise as Harvey Disrupts Gulf Coast Oil Infrastructure
https://sputniknews.com/us/201708281056842914-fuel-prices-rise-harvey-gulf-coast/

Hurricane Harvey has prompted at least 10 oil refineries on the US Gulf Coast to temporarily shut down, potentially pushing US gas prices higher.

Despite this, crude oil prices have posted small gains as lower refining activity in the US might contribute to an accumulation of crude inventories, typically a drag on oil prices.

US petrol prices rose over 6 percent, to their 2-year highest, while margins rose 16 percent on Sunday due to flooding in parts of Texas and Louisiana caused by Harvey. Crude prices, however, added only 44 cents, to $47.87/bbl as expectations of oil supply disruptions remain moderate.

Houston Mayor Warns Water Release From Dam May Cause More Flooding in City
https://sputniknews.com/us/201708281056862145-houston-mayor-water-release-flooding/

The mayor of Houston, Texas, warned that releasing water from a dam in the area could only increase the water and cause additional flooding amid Hurricane Harvey.

The release of rising waters from the Addicks dam in the US state of Texas can provoke more flooding near the city of Houston, Mayor Sylvester Turner said in a press conference on Monday.

"We constantly have started to release water from Barker, Addicks [reservoir]," Turner stated. "As they increase the water and it comes down, the water level along Buffalo Bayou in all probability will increase… So it could create the even additional problem, additional flooding."

Turner also said that the water level in the Addicks and Baker dams is steady so far.

If the authorities do not continue the operations at the Addicks dam, the water behind would go around and create a major problem, Turner said.

The US Army Corps of Engineers is releasing about 2600 cubic feet per second from the Addicks reservoir.

The US National Hurricane Center reported Wednesday that Hurricane Harvey was moving toward Louisiana and would cause life-threatening floods.

Hurricane Harvey Hits Louisiana Coastline for 2nd Time
https://sputniknews.com/us/201708301056916861-harvey-us-louisiana-coastline-center/

Hurricane Harvey is moving eastward from the state of Texas toward Louisiana, causing heavy floods, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Wednesday.

"Life-threatening flooding continues in southeastern Texas and portions of southwestern Louisiana…. There is a danger of life-threatening inundation, from rising water moving inland from the coastline, during the next 12 hours in the indicated locations," NHC said in its message.

According to the center, the storm made landfall about 5 miles from Cameron, Louisiana, a coastal town near the southwestern tip of the state.
The maximum sustained winds are about 45 miles per hour.

Weather forecasters predict that the storm will bring large quantities of rainfall before leaving Louisiana and heading further east toward Arkansas, Tennessee and Missouri.

It is the second time Harvey made landfall along the Louisiana-Texas border since it struck the United States' southern coastline.

At least 30 people have been killed in the floods that swept across vast areas of Texas. According to latest figures, 13,000 people have been rescued.

The US National Hurricane Center issued Saturday a summary on the tropical storm Phillipe. The forecast warns of possible brief tornadoes across portions of South Florida.

Tropical Storm Moves Toward Florida: 'Tornadoes Possible' - US Hurricane Center
https://sputniknews.com/us/201710291058630434-tropical-storm-cuba-florida-usa/

Tropical storm dubbed Philippe with heavy rains poured over Cuba is currently moving toward the United States. The US National Hurricane Center issued a report, noting that some parts of South Florida might be affected by the foul weather.

"Depression strengthens into tropical storm Philippe……Heavy rains occurring over central and western Cuba and spreading northward across the Florida Keys and South Florida……A couple of brief tornadoes are possible," the statement said.

According to the summary, the storm is heading north at a speed of about 30 miles per hour. Gusts of wind in the center of the storm are reaching 40 miles per hour, the Hurricane Center added.

In September, Hurricane Irma, the most severe storm ever recorded in the Atlantic basin devastated numerous Caribbean islands and the southeast portion of the United States, leaving more than 80 people dead.

Somewhere recently I heard that the U.S., notorious for the intensity and destructive outbreak of its tornadoes, has the most tornadoes in the world. While this didn't surprise me too much, I did immediately think of the idea that weather may reflect 4D battles and/or vibrational frequency of human populations (as discussed in Pierre's book "Earth Changes and the Human-Cosmic Connection"). So with the Anglo imperialist empires in mind, consider these statistics:

* The U.S. has more tornadoes than any country in the world, with an average of more than 1,000 each year.
* Canada has second most, with around 100 per year
* All other countries combined experience only another 100-200.
* In terms of density of tornado locations, relative to its land area, the United Kingdom has more tornadoes than any other country.
* The United States experiences approximately 75 percent of the world’s known tornadoes
* The United States, Canada and the United Kingdom combined boast more than 80 percent of the world’s tornadoes.

At least nine people were killed and about 90 people went missing in southern Indian regions as a cyclonic storm hit the area, the NDTV broadcaster reported Friday.

According to the media outlet, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the country's Navy forces are on standby to move towards the Lakshadweep islands for search and rescue operations.

Cyclone Ockhi hit the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, causing a storm which has uprooted hundreds of trees and made local authorities close schools in seven districts, as well as evacuate hundreds of people.

The tough weather conditions have also caused transport delays in Thiruvananthapuram with trains canceled or re-scheduled due to heavy rainfall overnight and the forecast of further rains.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the wind speed in the southern part of Tamil Nadu stands at up to 46 miles per hour and up to 37 in its northern regions.

India’s western states of Maharashtra and Gujarat are bracing for cyclone Ockhi, which battered the southern coastal states over the weekend, unleashing death and destruction. Hundreds of fishermen are still missing.

Cyclone Ockhi Approaches Western India after Killing 25 in the South
https://sputniknews.com/asia/201712041059672845-indian-cyclone-kills/

Cyclone Ockhi, which battered parts of southern India, killing at least 25 people, is heading towards the west of the country where it is expected to make a landfall in the next 24 hours, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.

The IMD said that the "very severe cyclonic storm" is presently centered over the east-central Arabian Sea, 670 kilometers southwest of Mumbai and 850 kilometers south-southwest of Gujarat. It is very likely to move north-northeastwards, weaken gradually and cross south Gujarat and the adjoining north Maharashtra coasts by midnight of December 5, 2017.

The Indian Navy has pressed into action 10 ships, as well as eight aircraft, including the Boeing P8i patrol aircraft, for search and rescue operation, as hundreds of fishermen from the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala have gone missing as the cyclone hovered near their coasts last weekend bringing high-speed winds and heavy rains. At least 600 fishermen have been rescued so far. The fishermen's families have launched a parallel rescue operation, as they claimed to know the sea better than anyone else.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the search operations would continue till the last of the missing fishermen are brought back. "I will not lose hope as the joint search operations have rescued fishermen who had ventured into the seas 15 days back," Nirmala Sitharaman told the media.

Apart from claiming at least 25 lives, trees and electricity poles were uprooted, roofs of houses and other structures were blown off and train and flight services were halted on Friday and Saturday as Ockhi with wind speeds between 155 and 165 km per hour struck the southern coastal state of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the Lakshadweep archipelago in the Arabian Sea.
