True Blood

I don't watch True Blood but my gf does, I do think the intro is excellent and intro song I like a lot.

I just caught the first two episodes of True Blood and found it surprisingly entertaining.

The whole vampire 'craze' in mainstream media annoys me a bit, because it's overplayed and I can't help but wonder if this whole focus on vampires (Twilight, Vampire Diaries, Daybreakers, etc) is some type of manifestation or representation of the STS/Vampiric feeding Archetype that's been around for ages. And now with everything slowly starting to unravel in the world, is this the 'resonant' archetype fully exposing itself.

But anyways, this show seemed fresh or have a slightly more original concept. Kinda reminded a little bit of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the dry humour and engaging characters, but definitely not for kids. ;)

I'm curious about how much television you all watch?

~added later - I'm not going to come down on you for it ;) - just really curious, since it seems to be more than I would have thought - knowing what we know about tv and all. ;) ~

Probably 4-5 hrs a week. But that mainly consists of documentaries, and randomly catching TV shows here and there. I will admit, my secret shames are One Life to Live and The View, but only because my mom watches it! Otherwise I would never watch those two shows ... yeah ... never ... :halo:

I have to admit, I got sucked into watching True Blood because my partner watched is and I thoroughly enjoy it.
One thing I find interesting is the synthetic blood beverage called True Blood that comes in what looks like a beer bottle. It allows vampires, especially those who don't want to harm others, to quench their thirst in a more socially acceptable manner.

Meanwhile, vampire blood, or "v" as it is called on the street, is sought out by humans looking for the ultimate high. I believe it is illegal to sell "v" as it is highly addictive and seems rather destructive to the mind.

My partner also read the Sookie Stackhouse series of books and enjoyed them much more. The HBO television show takes some liberties with the plots but generally follows the books, leaving out parts that might slow the pace down and inventing parts to sex up some scenes, which seems typical for HBO.

Quite entertaining.

Our television viewing is sporadic. I tend to watch documentaries but have been known to indulge in NCIS (really like the characters) and any paranormal investigation type show that might be on when I channel flip.

I don't seem to watch the news much anymore.

I watch anywhere from 0 to 2 hours/day on weekdays and 0 to 4 hours/day on weekends.

Well the Season three just came out and I've seen first 6 episodes.
I have to say I was on the edge of my seat all over again. IMO this show is way better then any other vampire stuff, but by the end of the day it is still rubbish that promotes dissociation.

but by the end of the day it is still rubbish that promotes dissociation.

So . . . the solution must be to keep a close eye on all new episodes so we can become conscious of where the dissociation, addictive images, and ponerizing messages are so we can warn others. ;D

I enjoy the exposure to deep south, Redneck culture with the setting--the introduction montage is the best part. Vampire stories are all explorations of 3D feeding in some form or another--this one has enough quirky, dark humor, and camp to keep me watching now and then.

I do not watch anything on TV regularly, and never schedule TV watching time unless perhaps I hear of some rare event that might be useful to know about, but will turn it on week nights when I work late, 2-3 times a week and watch a little HBO or a movie DVD. I can't say I actually watch much though--I turn it on, get comfortable, and then fall asleep (I know my subconscious continues to be programmed anyways) wake up, turn it off and go to bed. Watching TV is a habit that I have periodically in my life lived without, but I love good stories and these days there are some very good stories told in film/digital format. I especially enjoyed HBO's Rome series.

My real secret (until now) TV vice is the old, 1990s show "The Highlander." I confess to owning some DVDs of it and watching them now and then
(OK--I confess--a couple weeks ago I felt very depressed and watched them obsessively for about a week) when I consciously want to become unconscious for a little while.

I double this. The opening credits are really something - IMO it is piece of art in itself, with subtle messages and very suggestive imagery.

I've been in bed with sore throat all day- if it wasn't for these 6 episodes I don't know how I would survive :)

exactly ;). but wait I am sure Anart will have something to say about this evil plan

I loooooove this show. It's quite graphic though. I like its portrayal of the animalistic nature of sexual behaviour. The vampires here dont hold back. They just express there desires to the max....

This is an amazing show in my opinion. Better than Vampire diaries and Twilight.

I mean, really, imagine being a vampire, immortal having lived for hundreds upon hundreds of years, very powerful compared to normal people... why hold back? Why control desires??

Hi,

This is what I watch during the whole year, some of these shows run at different times of the year. You asked so I am going to give you the whole rundown of everything I watch on Tv!

True Blood, Fringe, Supernatural, Smallville, Vampire diaries, Stargate Universe, V and shows that I have watched partially but gave up on them because I just stopped liking them are, Lie to me, justified, castle, white collar, breaking bad and 90210.

I feel so ashamed for 90210. Only reason I watch that is to make me feel good fantasizing about living in a nice sunny state, having a massive house, fancy cars being surrounded by beautiful women all year round at work and school and just on the streets, having lots of money.... Wow talk about living the life.... Shameful fantasy!

Great comment!

I feel the same way. Really is an entertaining show, but I don't fool myself into forgetting it's still a tool for distraction. In fact every time I watch TV nowadays, I kind of assess what I'm watching and whether I should spend my time watching it. Keeps me from 'zoning out' in front of the boob tube, where you get sucked into the show.

Hey guys

I'm another fan of True Blood, and looking forward to the season 3 finale this Sunday.

But while I love the show, late, at night... with no kids around...
I find it disturbing that Rolling Stone has taken the most adult features of this TV show and put it up front and center on their August 2010 Magazine Cover for all to see, young and old. :jawdrop:

And while I know that Rolling Stone Magazine is famous for having naked pictures of famous people on their magazines, I find this one too disturbing and a clear example of the signs of the times. :scared:

You can see the picture here:

My Mrs. loves watching True Blood and she read all the books too. For me, it's just another vampire show with more nudity, blood and the usual although better watch than Vampire Diaries. To be honest, I can live without telly all my life but have to put up with it to keep sanity maintained in the household :P

I watch more that I should, I like True Blood!! and the Real Housewives of OC, NYC, Atlanta, DC, and New Jersey. And I also like watching MTV, music videos and South Park.

the latest season was equally engaging and its end left me craving for more.
Maybe I am trying to find excuses for this show, but as the plot unwinds it is becoming more and more clear this is not you usual vampire stuff. There are a lot of subplots about soul struggle, toxic family dynamics, good vs. evil, magic, drug abuse etc. The interesting concept was 'psychopath amongst the vampires ' which could be parallel with psychopaths that go off vs. those that fit into society.
Also in season three in addition to previously encountered mnayads, werewolves. shape shifters, vampires there are also fairies - said to have alien origin.
I definitely give it thumbs up and I am not ashamed of it :P
