Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan voiced "sadness" on Saturday over the downing of a Russian fighter jet by Turkish forces, saying he wished it had not happened.

The airplane commander's family undoubtedly feels sadness as well.

It's already hard to understand why Erdogan would put himself in hot water by shooting down a Russian airplane. But even harder is why he doesn't seek to get out of that hot water by openly extending an apology to Russia and doing everything in his power to make amends. Saying he is kind of sad several days later will not do. The only explanation I have for such an attitude is a pathological inability to recognize one's own mistakes. I think the guy has nowhere to go except down - and to be honest, good riddance!

Erdogan could have avoided this, or at least made it less severe, had he from the start made a point of being very sorry for a terrible mistake, offering reparations, etc. But so far it looks like he is only "sad" for having to face the consequences!

Putin approves economic sanctions against Turkey following downing of Russian warplane

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree imposing a package of economic sanctions against Turkey following its downing of a Russian Su-24 bomber in Syria. The measures include banning several Turkish organizations and the import of certain goods.

A decree on "measures providing the national security of the Russian Federation and the protection of its citizens against criminal and other unlawful acts, and on imposing special economic measures in relation to Turkish Republic" was signed on Saturday, the Kremlin press service said.

Under the decree, the import of certain products originating from Turkey will be temporarily banned or restricted.

A number of Turkish organizations operating in Russia will also be restricted.

Employers in Russia will be prohibited from hiring Turkish nationals for work starting January 1, 2016.

The ban will touch upon only new workers, the decree said, adding that employees who already officially hired as of December 31, 2015 will not fall subject to the sanctions.

The president has directed the government to introduce a ban on charter flights between Russia and Turkey. Russian travel agencies have been advised to stop selling tours to Turkey, the Kremlin announced.

The government has also been tasked with enhancing security control at Russian ports in the Sea of Azov and Black Sea. The illegal presence and movement of Turkish vessels near to the sea ports must be prevented, the decree said.

Bringing Turkish products into Russia for personal use will not be restricted, the decree said.

The visa-free regime for Turkish nationals traveling to Russia will be suspended starting from 2016, the decree signed by the Russian leader says.

It will not affect those who have residence permits, as well as Turkish diplomats working in Turkish embassies and consulates on the territory of Russia, and their families.

A list of contracts not to be affected by the new economic measures will be compiled by the Cabinet, the Kremlin said in its Saturday statement.

In reading about the Russian deployed S-400 Radar on SoTT, and there is an article by Paul Roberts - "Guest Column From George Abert, Formerly Of Air Force Intelligence" on this, whereby Abert opines:

Why did Turkey shoot down a Russian Air Force jet?

Turkey is so militarily inferior to Russia that it is unlikely Turkey would commit an act of war against Russia without encouragement from Washington. We might think that Turkey would feel shielded by NATO, but it is doubtful that many European members of NATO would risk nuclear annihiliation by going to war with Russia in order to save Turkey from the consequences of such a reckless and irresponsible act as shooting down a Russian military aircraft and lying about it. Turkey has issued no apology and no believable explanation. Unless Erdogan has lost his mind, Washington is behind the shootdown, and the reason is Washington’s desperation to decode the new Russian technology that gives Russian forces total control over a battlefield, whether on land, sea, or air.

When the Russians deployed their forces to Syria they also deployed some new stealth technology. So far as I know they’ve only used this technology in Syria twice, once during their first sortie and one other time when some Israeli Air Force jets entered what they knew was Russian operational airspace.

As noted, the first use of this stealth technology was during the first Russian sortie. In accordance with protocols agreed to beforehand with Israel and the US, the Russians informed the US of their intent to launch a sortie. They did so an hour prior to the launch. When they did they also employed a new stealth technology. The technology effectively blinded both the US and Israel. None of the radars worked and most, if not all, satellite coverage was lost or compromised as well. But there’s more.

About a week after Putin’s UN General Assembly address the Israelis launched a sortie into Syria which flew into airspace that was under Russian operational control. Russian air controllers warned the Israelis that they had violated Russian controlled airspace. When the Israelis ignored the Russian air controllers, the stealth technology was employed a second time. The Israeli aircraft are equipped with two radars, one for fire acquisition and the other for fire control. Both are advanced and employ frequency-skipping technology to avoid being jammed. Both radars were effectively jammed. These aircraft have multiple telemetry data-links to their base. These were shut down. The only communications channel left was the high-frequency AM band normally used by civilian air traffic controllers. After the stealth technology was turned on and it was clear to the Russians that the Israelis knew they had been shut down, the Russian air traffic controllers used this AM band to tell the Israelis to scram. The Israelis complied.

Whatever this technology is, it’s a game changer and I’m certain that breaking this technology has been given an extremely high priority.

So why did Turkey shoot down the Russian jet?

I suspect somebody wants the Russians to start using this stealth technology more often, often enough for its weaknesses to be exposed. Shooting down that Russian jet might just get the Russians motivated to do that.

If I’m correct I bet every Raven and ELINT specialist in the business has been deployed to that theater of operations to hack this one! One can only imagine how many resources are being amassed.

Here is an alternative view from Alexander Mercouris, who sees the incident as a blunder made by an out-of-control President Erdogan of Turkey. Mercouris writes that the reckless and irresponsible act has turned NATO against Erdogan and that even Obama is disturbed. http://russia-insider.com/en/politics/erdogans-blunder/ri11452

Indeed, the first announcement from the Turkish military side just after the incident was "A jet was shot down, the country of origin still unknown" It is impossible that they didn't know it was a Russian jet but normally this kind of language is used to give enough space to diplomatically decrease to tension for both side, if desired later. Likewise the first announcement from the Russian side was "the jet might be shot down from ground which would mean by terrorists" It's also impossible that Russian military intelligence does not know the truth but they had the same aim to give enough space to diplomacy if it will be chosen path. But Erdogan immediately made a provoking speech announcing downing of the Russian jet.

Well, this wouldn't surprise me. Most of Israel's military toys have been provided by the US.

If I were the Russians, my #1 priority would be to create some kind of electronic warfare gizmo that disables the radar and data links of US weapons systems. If you can do that, they're either blind, dead in the water, or both. Then you don't need trillions of dollars worth of war machines. You don't even need to have a war. You just need to turn the thing on, freak everybody out, and the West will cool their jets because they have no other choice.

The 2nd thing I'd do after demonstrating the effectiveness of this technology is to make it better so that it doesn't matter if the "ELINT" folks or who/whatever cracks it. If the Russians are smart enough to come up with something like this, they're also smart enough to have a backup plan (plans?) in case it's cracked.

My guess is that #2 is already done.

I think the big difference between the USA and Russia is that the US builds weapons to make money, and the secondary benefit is to blow things up. In such a scenario, the quality and effectiveness of the weapons is not as important as the budget, from which funds can be siphoned off to fund all kinds of "fun projects". Because the US had no real competitor that wasn't doing the same thing, they got away with it.

But Russia makes weapons to win. When you are in a desperate situation, you can make very little go a very long way with enough motivation and determination. That's a completely different ballgame than the one the West has been playing.

Yep, sometimes less is more! The Russian's are working smarter with a much smaller budget. The US spends something like $572 Billion/year on war toys/defense - more than the next 10 countries combined! While Russia's budget in 2015 was $84 Billion. The fat cats in the US are making tons of money off all that junk and the taxpayers are on the hook for it. No problem.....just fire up the printing presses.

Yeah, i heard about that one too :) ! Just to add, the siphoning of money through corruption is staggering in many governments. In anecdotal conversations with public sector colleagues in South East Asia, sometimes defence technology purchases are overpriced by more than 100% so that kickbacks can be generated. For infrastructure projects; the overpricing can be close to 1000%! - so that all corrupt parties can dip their finger into pie. Hence USD 572 Billion, may actually only translate into USD 50 Billion of actual defence spending....no wonder the Empire's aircraft carriers are just like sitting ducks on water.

I think so too, i think the jamming technology that they are currently using are probably a few versions older, and even if its cracked they will have another version to bring online quickly. While their R&D are constantly working on new variants. I think this is one of the key points preventing the neocons/Empire from starting ww3 - their inability to have total radar and air superiority in battle with the Russians. Its such a relief this is the case currently !

And those 50 billion that fund the project won't be used very efficiently. There's no doubt that billions that were invested in the F35 did reach the project despite massive corruption. However, the result is pathetic, because of several fundamental factors like limited motivation, unclear / changing objectives, lack of vision, lack of cooperation / communication, blurry leadership...

There's a French saying "the starving jackal runs faster". Russia, through decades of hardship has learnt to use limited resources efficiently, they've learnt to be smarter, they've compensated the lack of resources with brain. Meanwhile, the US was following the opposite path.

The tension that was created after the shooting down of a Russian jet fighter by Turkish warplanes has led several Greeks to refer to Elder Paisios‘ prophecies about war between Russia and Turkey.

The ascetic monk Paisios, who became Saint Paisios by the Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church in January, was known for his prophecies and predictions. One of them was that Istanbul, once the capital of the Byzantine Empire Constantinople, will become Greek again.

Specifically, Paisios wrote: “Events will start that will culminate with us taking back Constantinople. Constantinople will be given to us. There will be war between Russia and Turkey. In the beginning the Turks will believe they are winning, but this will lead to their destruction. The Russians, eventually, will win and take over Constantinople. After that it will be ours. They will be forced to give it to us.”

The text reads further, “(The Turks) will be destroyed. They will be eradicated because they are a nation that was built without God’s blessing. One third of the Turks will go back to where they came from, the depths of Turkey. One third will be saved because they will become Christians, and the other third will be killed in this war.” This is based on the Saint Kosmas prophecy.

“Turkey will be dissected. This will be to our benefit as a nation. This way our villages will be liberated, our enslaved homelands. Constantinople will be liberated, will become Greek again. Hagia Sophia will open again,” the text reads.

“Turkey will be dissected in 3 or 4 parts. The countdown has begun. We will take the lands that belong to us, the Armenians will take theirs and the Kurds their own. The Kurdish issue is at the works,” the text continues.

Saint Paisios the Athonite was born Arsenios Eznepidis in July 1924, in Farasa Cappadocia. His father was called Prodromos and his mother Evlampia. He had eight siblings. On August 7, 1924, a week before the Greeks of Farasa returned to the homeland, he was baptized by the parish priest, Arsenios, whom the Orthodox Church recognized as a saint. Arsenios insisted and gave him his name “to leave a monk in his place,” as he said.

Elder Paisios became known for a number of controversial political statements and prophecies. These include the prediction that a war with Turkey will lead to a restoration of a Greater Greece that includes Albania, Macedonia and Byzantium (Istanbul), and the mass conversion of Turks from Islam to Orthodox Christianity. Many Greeks compare Paisios to Nostradamus.

Interesting prophecy from Elder Paisios - Thanks for sharing Macyk.

Recent developments between Turkey and Russia, along with Turkey's colabration with US, UK, Israel and NATO forces might bring about conditions that would split Turkey into divisions and restore enslaved homelands back to their rightful owners?

When is a terrorist group not a terrorist group? When it supports the goals of Western foreign policy!
_https://jhaines6a.wordpress.com/2015/11/28/when-is-a-terrorist-group-not-a-terrorist-group-by-peter-eyre/

Having spent considerable time working in the Middle East (both in the military and as a civilian) I find the level of government, military and media deception is at an all time high.

Let’s take the current situation in Syria and Iraq as an example when we look at the alleged fight against ISIL/ISIS and view it from a US/UK/EU perspective.

During my many visits to Northern Iraq I became aware of the Kurdish struggle for recognition and their desire to create their own autonomous region in bordering Turkey, Syria, Iran and Iraq.

Historically the Kurdish Empire occupied land that extended from the Mediterranean Sea (in the northwest corner of Syria) up through the South Eastern part of Turkey, across the Northern part of Iraq and curving down towards to Northern Extremity of the Persian Gulf on both sides of the Iraq/Iran Border.

We now see the establishment of Kurdistan (Northern Iraq) which is an autonomous region with its own regional government all of which still falls under the control of the central government of Iraq.

I will now attempt to prove how hypocritical we in the west have been in politically accepting some Kurdish militia and not others with an emphasis on the USA, UK, EU and Turkish foreign policy.

This same hypocritical approach exists within NATO (especially Turkey) who play a very deceptive role when changing their bed partners!

We all know that one of the best fighting forces that exist within Kurdistan (the Peshmerga) are hardened warriors that control this extremely difficult harsh terrain and mountainous region.

Within this same region we also have two very well known groups called the PKK and the PJAK who’s goal is exactly the same – “to create their own Kurdish run autonomous regions in what was once their own empire.” i.e. within bordering Syria, Turkey and Iran.

The west however, namely the US, UK and Turkey (NATO Member), have labeled the PKK as a terrorist group because of its activities in Turkey where many Kurdish people live.

From my perspective I know this Kurdish group as being “Freedom Fighters” who are simply trying to receive their own identity within the countries they border and I also know that the PKK were successful in winning their case before the European Convention on Human Rights and were cleared of being labeled a terrorist group and yet the US – UK – Turkey do not accept this verdict!

As a result of the above the Turkish Air Force and Ground Forces frequently carryout incursions deep into Kurdistan to bomb and shell villages and towns which they believe house PKK forces.

Remember Kurdistan is part of Iraq which was and still is (to some extent) controlled by NATO of which Turkey is a member and which appears to turn a blind eye!! …….I am sure you would all agree this is indeed a breach of sovereignty and yet the United Nations remains silent!!

On the other side of Kurdistan we have the PJAK who carry out the same activity over the border in Iran but in this case the US, UK and NATO approve of their activities and do not label them as a terrorist organization but help in training, funding and arming them!

It is obvious that the PJAK is favoured by the West because they are fighting within Iran which as we all know is still a prime target for the US, UK, Israel and NATO forces.

Maybe you are at last starting to see the real truth behind the many conflicts around the Middle East and their hidden agenda which is to force a regime change in order to access their natural resources, etc.

Now lets look at the current hot spot Syria and again look into what part the above Kurdish groups play:

In Eastern and Northern Syria there are many Kurds and within those regions we have an extension of the so-called PKK terrorist group which operates under the disguise of the PYD….still with me?

Currently in Syria we have the following situation on hand in that the US, UK, Turkey (NATO), Israel and now France illegally fighting ISIL/ISIS (who they themselves created, assisted in training, funded and armed) – Russia Fighting ISIL/ISIS with the full approval of the Syrian Government and Kurdish (alleged terrorist) groups also fighting ISIL/ISIS!!!

This is where it now turns into one huge hypocritical nightmare:

50 Soldiers of the U.S. Army (Special Forces) have now illegally crossed the border from Turkey into the Syrian town of Ein al Arab (which they now occupy) and they are now……..wait for it……. “supporting the Kurds in the fight against ISIL/ISIS ………..the very group the US,UK, Turkey and NATO have listed as a terrorist organization!!!

On the other hand we now have Russia helping the Kurds with one headline being ‘Kurds attack Turkish-backed Syrian opposition forces with Russian help’

Now we have France and Israel barking up the same tree with their headline reading:

“France and Israel launch a new war in Iraq and Syria.”

The objective is no longer to overthrow the secular Syrian régime, nor to destroy its army, but to create a colonial state straddling the border between Iraq and Syria, to be managed by the Kurds, in order to apply a stranglehold on the Arab states. The dream of an Israeli nation between the Nile and the Euphrates is back.

Now read between the lines:

Turkey allows the US, UK and NATO to use its soil as a staging post for any attack against those regimes it wishes to topple i.e. Iraq and now Syria but also allows the above to support the very organization it refuses to accept the Kurdish PKK etc……now that is very hypocritical don’t you think?…….also note the game Israel is playing in wishing to extend its borders!

Israel has already taken a big slice of Syria via the Golan Heights – where next?

Finally we can see here that the Kurd’s are using this situation to their own advantage in attempting to gain back the territory they once occupied……They are heavily involved in fighting on the border with Syria, Turkey and Iran in addition to gaining their own autonomous region within Iraq now known as Kurdistan.

Assassinations on the rise: A prominent Turkish Lawyer (president of the Turkish bar association in southeastern Diyarbakir province) killed in Istanbul and three Chinese nationals (China Railway Construction Corporation’s (CRCC) international group) and six Russians (Russian commercial cargo airline Volga-Dnepr) killed in the capital of the African nation of Mali.

Violence Erupts In Turkey After Prominent Lawyer Is Assassinated On Live TV
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-11-28/violence-erupts-turkey-after-prominent-lawyer-assassinated-live-tv-while-giving-publ

A day after Turkey arrested two journalists for their report exposing Erdogan's weapons deliveries to "extremist groups" in Syria, confirming that no dissent to the president's foreign policy would be allowed, today a new riot has erupted in Istanbul following the dramatic murder in broad daylight of Tahir Elci, the president of the Turkish bar association in southeastern Diyarbakir province, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen while giving a public speech.

A campaigner for Kurdish rights, Elci had been criticized in Turkey for saying the banned Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) was not a terrorist organization, as the government describes it. He had, however, denounced PKK violence. He was facing trial over his comments, which had infuriated state prosecutors. A Turkish prosecutor last month demanded up to seven and a half years of prison tme for Elci on the grounds of "making propaganda of a terror organization" after remarks he made supporting the PKK.

Just before being gunned down, Elci called for peace and the silencing of all guns.

Two policemen and a reporter of the state-run Anadolu news agency were injured in the gunfire, along with an unknown number of civilians, Dogan news agency said. One of the policeman was in critical condition, it said.

Turkey's People's Democratic Party (HDP) condemned Elci's killing which it described as an "planned assassination" and called a protest in Istanbul in a written statement.

Terror in Mali: An Attack on China and Russia? One Third of the Victims were Russians and Chinese
http://journal-neo.org/2015/11/27/terror-in-mali-an-attack-on-china-and-russia/

Coming on the heels of the terrorist attack in Paris, the mass shooting and siege at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamako, the capital of the African nation of Mali, is still further evidence of the escalation of terrorism throughout the world. While there has already been much written about the incident in both western and non-western media, one critical angle on this story has been entirely ignored: the motive.

International media have now confirmed that at least nine of the 27 killed in the attack were Chinese and Russian. While this alone would indeed be curious, it is the identities and positions of those killed that is particularly striking. The three Chinese victims were important figures in China’s China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), while the Russians were employees of Russian airline Volga-Dnepr. That it was these individuals who were killed at the very outset of the attack suggests that they were the likely targets of what could perhaps rightly be called a terrorist assassination operation.

It is has since been announced that three Chinese nationals were killed at the outset of the attack: Zhou Tianxiang, Wang Xuanshang, and Chang Xuehui. Mr. Zhou was the General Manager of the China Railway Construction Corporation’s (CRCC) international group, Mr. Wang was the Deputy General Manager of CRCC’s international group, and Mr. Chang was General Manager of the CRCC’s West Africa division. The significance should become immediately apparent as these men were the principal liaisons between Beijing and the Malian government in the major railway investments that China has made in Mali. With railway construction being one of the key infrastructure and economic development programs in landlocked Mali, the deaths of these three Chinese nationals is clearly both a symbolic and very tangible attack on China’s partnership with Mali.

Among the dead are also six Russians, all of whom are said to have been employees of the Russian commercial cargo airline Volga-Dnepr. While at first glance it may seem irrelevant that the Russian victims worked for an airline, it is in fact very telling as it indicates a similar motive to the killing of the Chinese nationals; specifically, Volga-Dnepr is, according to its Wikipedia page, “a world leader in the global market for the movement of oversize, unique and heavy air cargo… [It] serves governmental and commercial organizations, including leading global businesses in the oil and gas, energy, aerospace, agriculture and telecommunications industries as well as the humanitarian and emergency services sectors.” The company has transported everything from gigantic excavators to airplanes, helicopters, mini-factories, and power plants, not to mention heavy machines used in energy extraction.

This fact is significant because it is quite likely, indeed probable, that the airline has been transporting much of the heavy, oversized equipment being used by the Chinese and other developers throughout the country. In effect, the Russian crew was part of the ongoing economic development and foreign investment in the country. And so, their killing, like that of the CRCC executives, is a symbolic strike against Chinese and Russian investment in the country. And perhaps even more importantly, the attack was a symbolic attack upon the very nature of Sino-Russian collaboration and partnership, especially in the context of economic development in Africa and the Global South.

It would be worthwhile to add that Volga-Dnepr has also been involved in military transport services for NATO and the US until at least the beginning of the Ukraine conflict and Crimea’s reunification with Russia. Whether this fact has any bearing on the employees being targeted, that would be pure conjecture. Suffice to say though that Volga-Dnepr was no ordinary airline, but one that was integral to the entire economic development initiative in Mali. And this is really the key point: China and Russia are development partners for the former French colonial possession and US puppet state.

Yes, most countries that design/build their own offense/defense electronic systems are very protective (secretive) of their war modes associated with jammers, transponders, comms, sensors, etc (ECM and ECCM). If something new is deployed, there will be a backup held in reserve - multiple backups if S/W-controlled.
