Turkey shot down Russian bomber over Syria

Erdogan and his on-going saga of a German satirical clip, with his ill behavior affecting Turkey's possible acceptance into the EU.

Turkey ‘demands’ takedown of Erdogan-mocking video, German authors add subtitles instead (Video)

Ankara reportedly pressurized Berlin into removing a satirical clip aired by NDR earlier this month. However, the show’s producers decided to amplify the message and released English and Turkish subtitled versions of the video criticizing the Turkish President.

Following the broadcast of the satirical piece titled “Erdowie, Erdowo, Erdogan” on an NDR show titled “Extra 3” on March 17, German Ambassador Martin Erdmann was summoned several days later to officially explain “in length” the reasons for the broadcaster’s behavior.

The Turkish government has reportedly ordered the deletion of the satirical video from the “Extra 3” YouTube account following the initial diplomatic exchange.

On Tuesday, the Foreign Office in Berlin said that Erdmann has been called in once again. However, during the meeting the German ambassador made it clear to the Turkish side that Germany is home to freedom of speech which it will protect.

To spread the message contained in the clip further, Extra 3amplified it with Turkish and English subtitles.

Ankara ‘moves away from EU’ after reaction to German satire video, commission chief says
https://www.rt.com/news/337794-eu-turkey-satire-reaction/

European Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker has criticized Ankara's reaction to a satirical clip about President Recep Tayyip Erdogan broadcast on German TV. Summoning the ambassador over the matter alienates Turkey from the EU, Juncker said.

The EU chief "does not approve of [Ankara's] decision to summon Germany's envoy just over a satirical song. He believes this moves Turkey away from the EU rather than brings it closer to us," Commission spokeswoman Mina Andreeva told a news briefing on Wednesday.

The Turkish president's lack of humor has apparently boosted the clip’s popularity and gained it even more international attention. The creators have added English and Turkish translations of the German song mocking Erdogan's "grand" lifestyle, the crackdown on press freedoms and other human rights in the country, as well as the Turkish leader's aspirations for EU membership.

Isis has ‘advanced plans to attack Jewish children’ in Turkey, intelligence sources say
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/isis-has-advanced-plans-to-attack-jewish-children-in-turkey-intelligence-sources-say-a6957221.html

Isis has advanced plans to carry out a terror attack heavily targeting Jewish children in Turkey, according to intelligence officials.

Sky News reports that six operatives from the terror group, arrested in the Turkish city of Gaziantep last week, revealed information about an “imminent” attack.

Istanbul’s synagogue in Beyoglu is understood to be the most probable target of the allegedly impending attacks, which has a community centre and school attached to it.

Kindergartens, schools and youth centres for Jewish children are at the centre of the plans, according to reports.

An intelligence source told Sky News, “This is a more than credible threat. This is an active plot,” adding the information gathered from the operatives indicated an imminent attack that could be “in the next 24 hours or next few days”.

The source said that in response to the threat, intensive security measures were being put in place, including “undercover” and “covert” round-the-clock terror measures.

Here's another "the information gathered from the operatives indicated an imminent attack that could be “in the next 24 hours or next few days” ISIS propaganda piece? From ISIS planning to attack Jewish children in Turkey - to ISIS attacking Israel and the U.S. Are they forgetting - the hands (Turkey/Israel/US) that feeds them, supplies arms/ammo and crisp Federal Reserve minted dollars?

'ISIS is planning a major attack in Israel'
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/209999?#.VvwVMZsUWii

ISIS affiliate in Gaza claims ISIS will increasingly focus on US and Israel, promises a major attack in Israel is only a matter of time.

While Islamic State (ISIS) attacks in Europe and massacres in Syria and Iraq have dominated the headlines in recent months, the radical Islamic terror group may be shifting its focus, placing a greater emphasis on Israel and the United States.

This Sunday, a Gazan Salafist official and ISIS affiliate Abu al-Ayna al-Ansari spoke with an American journalist, Aaron Klein, about the terror organization’s capabilities and future plans.

Al-Ansari, who is believed to have close ties to ISIS, emphasized that the terror organization would be focusing on Israel and the US, and viewed those two nations as its primary enemies in the pursuit of an Islamic caliphate.

“Israel and the United States are at the top of the list of the targets of the Islamic State,” Al-Ansari said on the Aaron Klein Investigative Radio show. “The Islamic State educates its people that Israel and the United States are the leaders of the infidels and we believe that Israel should be disappeared [sic].”

Perhaps most disturbing, however, are reports that ISIS is building an extensive terror infrastructure along Israel’s southern border. Taking advantage of the minimal Egyptian presence in the Sinai, Wilayat Sinai (Sinai Province), an affiliate of ISIS, has expanded its capabilities for a potential attack on Israel.

According to Al-Ansari, ISIS is already planning its first major attack on Israeli soil. A major ISIS attack on Israel, he claims, is only a matter of time.

“I can confirm that it is only a question of time when there will be a big operation in Eilat and in the south of Israel. The Wilayat Sinai will be the ones responsible for the confrontation with Israel.”

Speaking with Israel Army Radio, Yehuda Cohen, the commander of the IDF's Sagi Brigade which secures the border with Egypt, admitted that such an attack was indeed likely.

“In the end it must be remembered this organization was formed by terrorists that dream of a terror attack against Israel, and it will come. It’s clear that there will be a terror attack against Israel, I believe that it will happen during my tenure,” Cohen said.

While Israel has hitherto been spared the horrors ISIS has inflicted on Syria and Iraq, ISIS activity against Israel has been on the rise in recent months. In February a Sudanese national, allegedly inspired by ISIS, stabbed and wounded an Israeli soldier, in what is believed to be the first successful ISIS attack in Israel.

Earlier in March a suicide bomber affiliated with ISIS bombed a popular shopping center in Istanbul, murdering three Israelis and wounding dozens after tracking the Israeli tourists from their hotel.

Just this Monday two Arab residents of Jerusalem were charged with planning bombing attacks on Jerusalem for ISIS - the latest in a string of small ISIS cells broken up by Israeli security forces while planning attacks.

Sputnik News Agency is featuring a headliner - that Alparslan Chelik who reportedly shot and killed the ejected pilot from Russian Su-24 has been captured in Turkey. Problem is - the article gives two sources "Dogan News Agency" and "Hurriyet Newspaper" for the report.
On neither site (links below) in current news is there any mention of Alparslan Chelik and the capture? There is an article from last Nov. on Hurriyet news where it mentions Chelik has claimed responsibility for the death of the Pilot in an interview and Turkish authorities have no intension of arresting him? There's also the problem of Erdogan's recent behavior in shutting down newspapers and taking over a few news outlets - so information coming out of Turkey is questionable. At this point, no other outlets are reporting "this capture" and without another source to check validity - I'm taking the report to be "bogus".

According to Dogan News Agency, the alleged killer of the pilot of the downed Russian Su-24 flight has been detained in Turkey.

Alparslan Çelik, the alleged killer of Oleg Peshkov, the pilot of the Russian jet downed by Turkey on Nov. 24, 2015, according to Moscow, was detained in the Aegean province of İzmir on March 30.

Çelik, who came to İzmir a short while ago with his friends whom he fought beside in Syria along with Turkmens against the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad regime, was having dinner with them at a restaurant in İzmir’s Hatay district when he was detained.

Çelik and 13 others were detained after an unidentified person called the police and said there were men with guns in the restaurant.

Police seized a Kalashnikov assault rifle, two pistols and a large number of bullets from the men, after which Çelik and his friends were taken to a police station to give their testimonies.

“Even though they were detained hours ago, we still didn’t hear an explanation about the detention. These people haven’t done anything legally wrong, they only supported our kin. We don’t accept the fact that they are detained,” said Sıddık Caner Erşen, the lawyer of Serkan Kurtuluş, who was detained alongside Çelik.

The interrogation of Çelik and 13 others was continuing.

Wow! That was fast and it sure does help. It's a lot more information than I was able to locate AND more descripted and detailed as to where and how Celik was arrested.

You must be on "speed-dial" StormRidR!

Your article "find" also has more details - as to items confiscated during the detainment - than in this article now being posted by RT.

The Turkish Gulen movement "schools" are now expanding onto US military bases. (Just can't fix - stupid!)

Turkish Cleric’s Plans to Open Schools on US Military Bases Raises Concerns
http://sputniknews.com/us/20160401/1037304601/gulen-charter-schools.html

Exiled from Turkey, a former imam and founder of the Gulen movement is now trying to launch a string of charter schools for children of US military personnel.

Turkish imam Fethullah Gulen is in a self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania to avoid criminal punishment under the administration of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. According to The Hill, Gulen has spent his time in America launching over 140 publicly-funded charter schools in 26 states.

Investigations by the Washington DC-based newspaper focus on two concerns associated with these schools.

"…The Gulen organization uses charter schools and affiliated businesses in the US to misappropriate and launder state and federal education dollars, which the organization then uses for its own benefit to develop political power in this country and globally," Robert R. Amsterdam writes for The Hill.

While tax fraud is a concern, the school's’ use of specialty occupation visas is more telling, because it allows Gulen’s organization to import Turkish teachers. These teachers are evaluated not on their merits, but by a "secret point system designed to instill Turkish culture and Gulenist ideology in our American students."

"The goal, we are told, is to develop a Gulenist following of high achievers, incubated in our local community across the country," Amsterdam writes.

The charter schools deny any affiliation with Gulen, insisting that they’re only "inspired by Gulen’s religious teachings."

These schools are now expanding onto US military bases. The Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas (CASLV) is under negotiation with the US Air Force to open a campus on Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. In 2009, Gulen’s organization also opened a school on Davis-Monthan AFB in Arizona.

Gulen attempted to open schools at Marine Corps Bases in Hawaii, a Great Lakes naval station in Illinois, and a Marine Corps Base Camp in Pendleton, but these deals all fell through.

"Lest there be any doubt about the objectives in the United States, the strategy of subtly indoctrinating schoolchildren into the Gulen movement is a familiar one overseas, and there is great peril in allowing it to flourish in this country," Amsterdam writes.

The former imam managed to establish a similar network in his native Turkey prior to his exile, and operates in roughly 101 countries. His movement has an estimated six million followers and holds assets between $20-$50 billion.

The [US] Department of Homeland Security should be asking itself why such a non-transparent, religion-based organization would seek to establish itself on our military bases, teaching the children of our service men and women."

angelburst29,

It is also a "truth is stranger than fiction" idea to me. It really makes me wonder what Gulen is up to and why the US military would even consider the idea. I just thought he was planning to seek asylum here and then return to Turkey if Erdogan would be ousted. I think there is a UN connection if Wikipedia is correct in saying:

Humanitarian Aid

The movement runs charity and humanitarian aid organizations which are transnationally active. Among them the leading one is the Istanbul based Kimse Yok Mu Association (KYM). KYM organizes charity campaigns to help those in need in different parts of the world. Like any other activities of the Gülen-movement, KYM runs local projects responding to specific needs. KYM holds UN Ecosoc Special status.

Another charity organization Embrace Relief was established in NJ, US and active in Americas,Asia and Africa.

It makes me wonder if Gulen is part of a plan to create a "One World" religion. Although Gulen's schools sound appealing to many due to their moderate tolerant stance and inclusion of science and acceptance of modern technology, Gulen's schools are still Qur'an based.

I only hope the "timeline" is shifted enough for the many prophetic plans of 4D STS to actually fail. I have come to see the many prophesies and predictions to be mostly game plans to program the masses. If we truly have free will I think the Cs definition of religion, "Life is religion", makes more sense to me. After studying biblical prophesy for many years and watching the UN connections my own personal opinion is that the the religions of the world are mostly geared to control and direct the masses to accept a monotheistic view of creation. It is a subtle way to limit us to the belief in "Monotheism, the belief in one separate, all powerful entity."

I only hope the "timeline" is shifted enough for the many prophetic plans of 4D STS to actually fail. It is a subtle way to limit us to the belief in "Monotheism, the belief in one separate, all powerful entity."

A "One World" religion might be behind Gulen's activities, so I personally wouldn't rule it out, as a possibility Goyacobol.

Their "moderate" tolerant Qur'an based stance is questionable, especially if you go back to Gulen's activities in Turkey, prior to him seeking refuge in the U.S. Think in terms - of the "moderates" the U.S. backed and financed in Syria. If you do a comparison profile between Gulen and Erdogan, there's no noticeable difference between the way they seek absolute power or the ways and means of achieving their directives. One could easily be substituted for the other.

Consider the information here:
Erdogan’s march to one-man power
http://www.al-monitor.com/pulse/originals/2015/11/turkey-erdogan-march-one-man-power-gulen.html

In a March 12, 2013, article for Al-Monitor, I wrote, “Turkey’s future is to be decided by the nation's three most powerful men, by the equilibrium they shape among themselves and by deals they forge with each other.” The three powerful men at the time were then-Prime Minister and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdogan; the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) jailed founding leader, Abdullah Ocalan; and Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen, the head of the Hizmet Movement or “the Community,” who lives in self-exile in the United States.

The three men owed their power to a number of common characteristics. They all wielded enormous clout and charisma over their followers, had extraordinary organizational talents and entertained distinct visions for the future and projects for an alternative society. Their interactions, I argued, would determine Turkey's course.

After all the extraordinary developments Turkey has been through since 2013, including the AKP’s unexpectedly big victory margin in the Nov. 1, 2015, elections, I can now assert that Erdogan, using all his power and doing whatever it takes, has managed to overcome all obstacles to become "the man." Gulen and Ocalan have emerged the losers, far behind where they stood in March 2013.

For Erdogan, 2013 was an annus horribilis. The first threat to his political power came in June with the Gezi Park protests, in which more than 3 million people took part in 80 of Turkey’s 81 provinces, according to police figures. The anger boiling over in the streets targeted Erdogan directly, rather than the AKP. Pushing aside the party’s moderates, Erdogan suppressed the monthslong demonstrations with disproportionate and bloody police violence that overrode the basic rights and freedoms enshrined in the constitution.

In December 2013, Erdogan was shaken again, this time with corruption probes that targeted government ministers, members of his family and business cronies. The resulting evidence, including wiretaps — apparently the product of an extensive pursuit and investigative work by the Gulen community’s network within the police and the judiciary — spoke of corruption and bribery at a scale unprecedented in Turkish history. It was an existential challenge not only to Erdogan’s rule but to him as a person, and it galvanized him to strike back with all the power he wielded over the state, politics and the media. The police operations and probes were blocked through overt and direct interventions with the judiciary and the de facto suspension of constitutional provisions.

Erdogan and the AKP emerged victorious from the all-out war they mounted against the Gulen community after the probes. Over the past two years, thousands of judicial officials and police officers deemed to be linked to the community have been removed from office, often unlawfully. Many have been expelled from their professions altogether, and some have been charged with membership in a “terrorist organization” led by Gulen.

The Gulenist media took some of the heaviest blows, including the seizure of the Koza Ipek business group, which owns two newspapers and two TV channels. Many journalists from Gulenist quarters were detained, including five who remain behind bars on charges of espionage and running a terrorist organization. Most recently, on Nov. 15, 13 television and radio channels of the community’s largest media group, Samanyolu, were removed from the state-owned Turksat satellite.

In a clear sign that the government’s war would not be limited to Gulenist media and Gulenist followers within the state, police on Nov. 6 raided the Ankara offices of the Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists, the umbrella group of Gulenist entrepreneurs. Similar raids on educational institutions linked to the community have already become a virtually routine occurrence.

In sum, Gulen is today a leader whose power and clout within state and society has dramatically diminished. The movement he built since the 1970s is being gradually dismantled by the Erdogan government.

As for Ocalan, he has been in prison since 1999 but has perhaps been the world’s most influential inmate. One has to recall that “the peace and settlement process” had officially kicked off March 21, 2013, when a message from Ocalan urging the PKK’s armed units to pull out of Turkey was read to hundreds of thousands of Kurds at Nowruz celebrations in Diyarbakir.

The government made a political decision to recognize Ocalan as an interlocutor and placed him at the center of the process. Hence, the process was named after the island of Imrali where Ocalan serves his life sentence in a special prison. The Imrali process, however, had one very important weakness that jeopardized its sustainability. That problem stemmed from Erdogan.

Erdogan built a link of conditionality between the Imrali process and the introduction of the Turkish-style presidential system he aspires to, with that bridge being a constitutional amendment. He made the PKK’s disarmament a precondition for any steps forward, thus deadlocking the process. Ankara refused to take any consensus-building or administrative steps during the process, which ended in July 2015 with Turkish warplanes launching massive raids on PKK targets in northern Iraq. Citing Ankara’s reluctance, the PKK had already suspended its withdrawal from Turkish territory in September 2013.

Erdogan’s ultimate decision to end the Imrali process was precipitated by the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party’s (HDP) decision to approach the June 7 elections as a party instead of fielding independents and to build its campaign on the slogan “We won’t let you become an executive president.” As the HDP passed the 10% national threshold to enter parliament, the AKP lost a considerable number of seats, making Erdogan’s objectives more difficult to attain. To make up for the expected losses, Erdogan set his sight on the nationalist vote and changed his tune. He was now saying, "There is no Kurdish problem," thus knocking over the negotiating table. His ire led to a halt in meetings between Ocalan and his lawyers, who used to carry Ocalan’s messages to the PKK. Ocalan’s isolation, which began in April, continues to date.

Amid the reignited conflict, many cities and towns in the predominantly Kurdish southeast are today the scene of destruction and bloodshed. Even if the clashes were stopped tomorrow in favor of talks, the new peace process could hardly be called “the second Imrali process.” This is because Ocalan’s loss of ground and power did not result solely from Erdogan’s moves. In a new shift since the Islamic State’s (IS) seizure of Mosul in June 2014, the PKK leadership, based in Iraq’s Qandil Mountains, and the Syrian Kurds’ Democratic Union Party have emerged as the real allies of the United States, Russia and Iran against IS on the ground. The new situation has empowered the PKK leadership as never before, making it harder for Ankara to have Ocalan as its only interlocutor and continue on its way relying on Ocalan’s power and clout over his organization.

In sharp contrast to 2013, 2014 was Erdogan’s annus mirabilis. In the municipal polls in March last year, the AKP lost 7 percentage points of its electoral support but retained the country’s two biggest cities, Istanbul and Ankara, thus emerging psychologically unscathed. Then, in August, Erdogan won 52% in the first round of the presidential elections, becoming Turkey’s first head of state elected by popular vote. No doubt the opposition’s ineptness played a big part in these election victories. Erdogan’s ascent to the top postmarked Turkey’s shift to “a de facto presidential regime,” as he put it.

By mid-2015, the strains of economic woes, the burden of corruption and the negative image of Erdogan’s new, pompous palace had a combined impact on the electorate, which led to a fatigued and worn-out AKP losing its parliamentary majority in the June 7 elections. Yet, Erdogan refused to give up. He stymied efforts to form a coalition government and took the country to another election Nov. 1.

Meanwhile, press freedom in Turkey had hit an unprecedented low under multifaceted government pressures employed as another election-winning tool.

Gripped by fear over the revived conflict with the PKK and terrorist attacks attributed to IS, conservative and right-wing voters pinned their hopes on a strong, one-party government again and handed the AKP an election victory that exceeded even its own expectations.

The process that made Erdogan Turkey’s “one and only powerful man” has taken a heavy toll on the country’s constitutional and legal order, its democracy and institutions. Each time Erdogan lost some power, he moved to regain it using all his remaining power, at whatever expense. He might have stepped back at times, but he never chose to reconcile, always playing the zero-sum game. As a result, the AKP government has today become an Erdogan regime. And after the Nov. 1 elections, the only things that can stop this regime now are its own mistakes and structural weaknesses,

Turkish Cleric’s Plans to Open Schools on US Military Bases Raises Concerns
http://sputniknews.com/us/20160401/1037304601/gulen-charter-schools.html

[...]

One could easily be substituted for the other.

angelburst29,

What I really meant is that Gulen tries to make his schools and ideology/theology appear moderate to appeal to many. I am not one of the many who find him appealing because I think he is just a wolf in sheep's clothing. The mentioning that his teachings are still based on the Qur'an (with his own unique interpretations mixed in) was not meant to support the "moderate tolerant stance". And I don't see him as a good replacement for Erdogan either as the article you found points out the similarities of Gulen to Erdogan.

"The Turkish Gulen movement" probably deserves its own topic as I imagine it has the potential to become a red hot discussion. In any case, those interested in Fethullah Gulen and the Gulen Movement (GM) will probably be interested in reading this:

Furthermore, the reader might familiarize him/herself with this info because Gulen, the Gulen movement, Islam and Sharia law are all related. Indeed, if what I'm reading is accurate and some stories on the web are not disinfo, the U.S. and its judicial system is already dealing with some effects from Sharia law advocates, adherents and promoters.

Hmmm, interesting. I went to a Turkish school in Kenya for high school. At the time it was still new, early 2000's, over the decade, it has grown and grown and now I think they have multiple schools in multiple cities under the same brand name + also in Kampala (Uganda). My first proper education into Islam was at this school really.

I tried searching if it had anything to do with this Gulen movement thing...

All I could find were articles on the hizmet news site

_http://hizmetnews.com/10527/slandering-turkish-schools-treason-according-well-known-politician/#.VwEk26QrLIU

Speaking during the annual gathering of ambassadors on January 15 in Ankara, Erdoğan labeled the corruption investigation involving former government ministers nothing but a “treacherous plot” to sabotage Turkey’s international standing and ordered Turkish ambassadors serving abroad to “tell the truth” to their foreign interlocutors. Without openly naming it, Erdoğan has accused the Hizmet movement led by Turkish Islamic scholar Fethullah Gülen and “its foreign collaborators” of attempting to overthrow his government through a “judicial coup” ever since the corruption probe that shook his government became public on Dec. 17 following a wave of detentions.

In an interview with the Cihan news agency, Durak showed reaction to Erdoğan’s order to the ambassadors and he visited some of the Turkish schools in foreign countries. “Children of prime ministers and presidents and high-level bureaucrats are sent to these schools opened in Africa and many parts of the world… Many significant people are given education in these schools. I am of the opinion denouncing these schools to the ambassadors instead of supporting them is equal to treason,” said Durak.

Turkish investors have set their sights on the Kenyan education sector following the success story of a chain of schools in Nairobi and Mombasa.

The four schools, operating under the Light Academy brand ( :scared:), were set up by Turkish businessmen to cater for Kenya’s fast-growing middle class.

The businessmen now plan to establish one more school in Kisumu and a private university.

More than 200 Turkish investors have in the past month visited Nairobi and Mombasa to explore business opportunities.

A representative of the investors, Mr Nejdet Ozer, from the textile rich city of Idenizli, told the Nation in Mombasa that Kenya had unexploited business opportunities.

“The Light Academy schools in Nairobi and Mombasa are some of the projects that show how keen Turkey is in having a bigger presence in Kenya.
“However, we are also looking at investment opportunities in enterprises with the best infrastructure and environment,” he said.

Mr Ozer said Kenya’s position as a regional hub made it attractive for investment, noting that the good relations between the two countries would be an added advantage.

Hizmet movement is the Gulen movement so it does look like I attended one of their schools!  If so... I don't see what the fuss is about, the school was good... the school was islamic so you had to abide by islamic customs (e.g. leaving your shoes outside before entering dorms) but other than that, it was all good. Also, they did teach you about character i.e. what constitutes good character. You didn't have to learn the Quran or become a muslim though... however, at the time I was there, you had to take Turkish language lessons... a huge bulk of the teachers were imported i.e. Turkish but you also had local ones as well. This was in the early 2000's though, things are most likely different now! Nothing extreme about it from what I can remember... it was well integrated into the UN actually. I remember visiting UN sites a lot! No other school before or after afforded such opportunities.

I got another video shot from students perspective from 1 of the Light Academy Turkish schools in Kenya and if this represents Gulen's schools worldwide, then I don't see it as negative.

PS: Notice the cups they are drinking tea from are metallic..... it took a really really long time for me to figure out how to hold one when the tea is hot!!! Looks like some things haven't changed...

An impressive and comprehensive overview of the Gulen Movement. Great find - Buddy! Even has several tidbits of information, I wasn't aware of. I'm also in favor of a separate thread for Fethullah Gulen and the Gulen Movement (GM).

Not sure where this fits in yet but I've been keeping tabs on this development in Maryland. I was under the impression, this was part of the Gulen Movement but you might be surprised (I almost went into shock) of who was present for the opening ceremony?

Erdoğan attends opening ceremony of mosque, culture center in US
http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/erdogan-attends-opening-ceremony-of-mosque-culture-center-in-us-.aspx?pageID=238&nID=97245&NewsCatID=358

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has attended the opening ceremony of a culture center and mosque in the United States, while he was in the country to attend the Nuclear Security Summit.

The Turkish-American Culture and Civilization Center, otherwise known as the Diyanet (Directorate of Religious Affairs) Center of America, which was funded by the Turkish government, was inaugurated by Erdoğan on April 2, in Maryland.

Hailing the beauty of its location near the capital Washington D.C., Erdoğan said the construction of such a massive project made sense.

“Unfortunately, we are going through a rough time all around the world. Intolerance towards Muslims is on the rise not only here in the United States but also around the globe,” said Erdoğan, according to AFP.

“That’s why I believe this center will play a crucial role,” he added, drawing cheers from a crowd of thousands of men, women and children packed behind security barriers.

The complex, the only one in the United States to feature two minarets, was constructed in the style of 16th century Ottoman architecture, with a central dome, half domes and cupolas echoing Istanbul’s Süleymaniye Mosque.

“Terrorism will never have a religion, will never have a nation, will never have a nationality, nor will it ever have a root or ethnicity,” Erdoğan said.

Turkey’s Diyanet head, Mehmet Görmez, said American Muslims should not apologize for terrorists who claim affiliation with Islam, on April 1 at a sermon in the newly built mosque.

“My message to you is that you should continue to hold your head high, with honor and dignity, and don’t be defensive or apologetic for the horrible acts that have been committed overseas by criminals who claim affiliation with your faith,” Görmez told thousands of Muslims gathered at the mosque for Friday prayers.

US President Barack Obama has turned down an offer by his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan to participate in the planned inauguration of a Turkish-funded mosque in Maryland.

Obama rejects Erdogan offer on Maryland mosque opening

According to The Wall Street Journal, citing US officials, Obama also has no plans for a formal one-on-one meeting with Erdogan during this week’s Nuclear Security Summit (NSS) in Washington.

The fourth and final NSS convention will kick off on Thursday in the US capital where Obama is expected to tell delegations from 51 nations, plus major groups such as the European Union and United Nations, about steps taken to ensure nuclear materials do not fall to militant groups.

Senior administration officials told the Journal, though, that Obama’s decision should not be taken as a slight since the two leaders met in November at the Group of 20 summit in Turkey, and spoke by phone in February.

“The president has been in such regular contact with few other world leaders,” said a senior official. “When it comes to the NSS, there is not a robust [bilateral] schedule, so it’s not as if Erdogan is being excluded.”

America’s largest mosque complex, officially known as Turkish-American Culture and Civilization Center, has been built with Turkish funding under the supervision of the Turkish religious foundation, Diyanet. The $100 million mosque will soon open in Lanham, Maryland, US media say.

The latest report, however, says the cool reception awaiting the Turkish leader in Washington reflects America’s concerns about Turkey’s ongoing crackdowns on dissent and Kurds fighting Daesh (ISIL) terrorists in Syria.

Turkey, which has been among the main supporters of militant groups operating in Syria, has been attacking positions of Kurdish People’s Protection Units, also known as the YPG, over the past few months, accusing them of having links to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militant group.

The YPG, which is nearly in control of Syria’s entire northern border with Turkey, has been fighting against Daesh, which has seized parts of Iraq and Syria.

Last week, Russia also slammed Turkey for hindering Kurds’ battle against ISIL terrorists, with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov saying Ankara is “frustrating” efforts made to fight the Daesh Takfiri terrorists.

More information on Sharia Law.

Islam: Governing Under Sharia
http://www.cfr.org/religion/islam-governing-under-sharia/p8034

Introduction

Sharia, or Islamic law, influences the legal code in most Muslim countries. A movement to allow sharia to govern personal status law, a set of regulations that pertain to marriage, divorce, inheritance, and custody, is even expanding into the West. "There are so many varying interpretations of what sharia actually means that in some places, it can be incorporated into political systems relatively easily," said CFR's Steven A. Cook. Sharia's influence on both personal status law and criminal law is highly controversial. Some interpretations are used to justify cruel punishments such as amputation and stoning, as well as unequal treatment of women in inheritance, dress, and independence. The debate is growing as to whether sharia can coexist with secularism, democracy, or even modernity, an idea that is being tested by several countries in the Middle East in the wake of popular uprisings and civil wars. The school you attended in Kenya, Luke may be completely different then the Movement Gulen has set up in the U.S. If you research the backgrounds of how these schools are funded and financed, it will reveal that they are heavily funded by the U.S. taxpayer, in the form of "Educational Grants" and "State and Municipal Bonds" and other amenities. Schools and business associated and directly related to Gulen come under Religious Code, therefore, pay no taxes on income or property.
