V for Vendetta - Wachowski brothers

Noise,

If you have a DVD of the movie, try watching it both in closed-captioned (with the setting of your tv) and english subtitle (setting on the DVD menu). But, don't watch them at the same time. Just to know the difference. Closed-captioned is black block with white text, and a subtitle is yellow text with no block. My suggestion would be not trying to have the text 'blend' with the screen (in all scenes). Either yellow or white might be good, but just my thought.

i suspect V's voice gets kinda drowned out because whoever made the clip from the DVD didn't downmix the dolby 5.1 surround sound to stereo (mono?) properly.

i've seen the movie 2 times and i can't remember having troubles understanding what he was saying.

I watched it again last night. When I watched when V made a speech (as mentioned), I was focusing on the words (watching it in closed-captioned) and the emotions expressed by V, but not hearing what he actually said. I don't like the fact that during his speech, there were so much going on like the executive guy trying to get a camera and police talking, etc. I had to focus so much on his speech and ignore other things going on.

Also, I read lips when understanding other people, but V? He had a mask on, and mask's lips does not move. So, I had rely on the closed-captioned.

yeah, i agree...

do you have a surround sound setup or just stereo?
sometimes when the dvd player is set to output full 5.1 and you only watch it on a stereo tv, the balance of the different channels gets screwed up.

Just a tv stereo, but not so good. However, I cannot tell if it's bad, distorted, or not. My hearing aid cannot interpret a correct frequency coming from the tv's speakers. I use dvd/vcr player, which is plugged into the tv. The player's sound output is not currently in use.

V-Says: "There are of course those who do not want us to speak." Which before reading the text I thought said "There are of course those who do not want peace." Think I'll start using closed caption as well.
I was trying to hear that specific part of the speech as you mentioned. I can understand how that last part of the line can be intrepreted as "peace" instead of "us to speak." V used a strong enunciation when he said that, and he channelled his anger into that last part. However, the both lines can be the truth. Interesting enough, that might be the hidden message.

sorry dude, didn't know your hearing was impared. sometimes us 'hear-wellers' forget that not everybody is in the same situation. ;)

Well I've redone the whole thing. What you've mentioned about the misc. distortions and background noises.. did the best I could to isolate those and try to bring the speech forward. Can't say it was a success but it is the best I could. This is completely revamped and much more political than movie entertainment. All the text has been removed as well as most video footage. I've re-revised the thing 15-20 times. Thought of writing more text and boring you more for a few more paragraphs :) heh,.. ok here's the link:

It was hard to get it just right. I watched it and it was fine and then saved it and it wasn't what I watched, somehow the timing or an image got out of whack, or there would be a brief flash of an image that was supposed to fade out and not show that flash of V's mask. The end result on the gougle upload is still slightly different than the version I have saved (.wmv) on my drive, though it is the uploaded version. I think some things get out of whack when converting to flash or mp4. Gave it what I got.

Edit: As a warning, I increased the volume to where it might be a good idea to turn down your speakers some.

great job noise! very effective way of directly showing what V was talking about. Will you post this on youtube too?

Excellent stuff!

I really liked the images you put in starting at 2:39, where it goes: "So if you've seen nothing, if the crimes of this government remain unknown to you.."

I really liked the images of those two British soldier chaps too. Too bad that one will probably be lost on many.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-F6xfMl8Go This is the youtube upload.

It's very late and I'm very tired. Thanks for the opportunity to share it with you as well as sharing your thoughts.

Salutes!

Request:

Would someone be willing to kick down the words from a section of the Vendetta video? The section I seek is about 3min. 15 seconds long. The point of departure starts with V sitting down and saying "Our Story begins, like these stories often do, with an up and coming politician (or some such words). And the scene ends with V getting up and walking away after telling the story and his saying, "You inspector, I needed you."

My issue is that I can't get the words close caption for the video.

Noise,

Actually, there were no closed-captioned during that scene in my DVD as well. Odd, isn't it? Well, I switched to subtitles.

As you requested:

V:
Our Story begins, as these stories often do, with a young up-and-coming politician.
He's a deeply religious man and a member of the Conservative Party.
He's completely single-minded and has no regard for the political process.
The more power he attains, the more obvious his zealotry and the more aggressive his supporters become.

Eventually, his party lauches a special project in the name of national security.
At first it's believed to be a search for biological weapons and it's pursued without regard to its cost.
However, the true goal of this project is power. Complete and total hegemonic domination.
The project, however, ends violently.

But the efforts of those involved are not in vain for a new ability to wage war is born from the blood of one of the victims.
Imagine a virus, the most terrifying virus you can and then imagine that you and you alone have the cure.
But if your ultimate goal is power, how best to use such a weapon?

Well, it's at this point in our story that along came a spider. Here's a man seemingly without a conscience
for whom the ends always justify the means.
He suggests that their target should not be an enemy of the country...
but rather, the country itself.

Three targets are chosen to maximize the effect of the attack: a school, a tube station and a water-treatment plant.
Several hundred die within the first few weeks.
Fueled by the media, fear and panic spread quickly, fracturing and dividing the country until, at last, the true goal comes into view.
Before the St. Mary's crises, no one would have predicted the results of the election that year. No one.
And then not long after the election, lo and behold, a miracle.

Some believed it was the work of God himself.
But it was a pharmaceutical company controlled by certain party members that made them all obscenely rich.
A year later, several extremists are tried, found guilty and executed while a memorial is built to canonize their victims.

But the end result, the true genius of the plan, was the fear.
Fear became the ultimate tool of this government.
And through it, our politician was ultimately appointed...
to the newly created position of high chancellor. The rest, as they say, is history.

Inspector: Can you prove any of this?
V: Why do you think I'm still alive?
Inspector: All right, We'd like to take you into protective custody, Mr. Rookwood.
V: I'm sure you would. But if you want that recording, you'll do what I tell you to do. You'll put Creedy under 24-hour surveillance. When I feel safe he can't pick his nose without you knowing, I'll contact you again. Till then, cheerio.
Inspector: Rookwood, Why didn't you come forward before? What were you waiting for?
V: Well, for you, inspector. I needed you.

1,000 thanks Zadius Sky!

Much appreciated, hope it took little of your time to get that out. I'll do my damnedest to make as best an effort as possible of it. Reading over the text it seems it can/will be very interesting to put to images (and hopefully some video..).

Again very much appreciated!

It's not a problem, noise. However, I should have look online for this specific scene, and as it turned out today, it was on this link:

It was fun typing it down from the movie, though. :)
