Washington: The white supremacist march in Charlottesville, Virginia has left three people dead and more than 20 injured from incidents that included a car slamming into a group of people and a helicopter crash.

The person who died when a car smashed into the crowd, there were also the pilot and a passenger in a state police helicopter that crashed outside the city, Xinhua quoted Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe as saying.

About the vicious car attack, Mayor Mike Signer made the announcement on Twitter, saying he was "heartbroken that a life has been lost here. I urge all people of good will--go home."

The car ran into a group of people protesting against the white supremacist march, and the driver has been arrested, according to eye-witnesses said.

For now, the identity and motive of the driver are unknown.

Authorities at the University of Virginia Medical Center confirmed the death following the car attack as well as the 19 it injured and who are being treated there.

They also noted that another 15 people were injured in violent clashes that morning.

In a brief appearance, US President Donald Trump condemned the violence and "hate" in the city.

"We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides," Trump said in a statement from Bedminster, New Jersey, where he is spending his summer vacation.

Trump added that "it has been going on for a long time in our country -- not Donald Trump, not Barack Obama. It has been going on for a long, long time. It has no place in America."

The car attack occurred around 1:00 pm, soon after McAuliffe declared a state of emergency in the city for the clashes between participants in the march and those opposed to it.

The controversial "Unite the Right" march was organised to protest the removal of a statue honoring Gen. Robert E. Lee, commander of the Confederate Army in the 19th-century American Civil War.

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency Saturday amid violent clashes between hundreds of white nationalists and counter-protesters in Charlottesville.

Riot gear-clad police officers ordered protesters to disperse after clashes quickly escalated in the southern city's Emancipation Park. But as the climate calmed down a car plowed into a group of counter-protestors, potentially killing one.

US President Donald Trump on Saturday condemned hatred and violence "on many sides" as clashes between white nationalist demonstrators and anti-racist counter-protestors left one dead in Charlottesville, Virginia.

"We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides," Trump said from Bedminster, New Jersey, where he is on a working vacation.

In his call for unity the Republican president stopped short of denouncing the white supremacist groups that had descended on the normally peaceful university city for a far-right rally that erupted in violence.

"The hate and the division must stop right now," Trump said. "We have to come together as Americans with love for our nation."

The violent skirmishes between members of the far-right -- including Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazi sympathizers -- and counter-demonstrators saw one person killed after a car rammed into a crowd.

According to multiple witnesses, the victims of the car ramming were counter-protestors denouncing the so-called "alt-right."

Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe had earlier declared a state of emergency.

Thousands of white nationalists joined a rally held by Unite the Right in Emancipation Park protesting the removal of a statue honoring Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, which glorifies the era of slavery as critics say. The rally followed a night, when white nationalists organized a torch march at the University of Virginia.

Video footage suggests that the car rammed into protesters intentionally. Caution, the videos might offend sensibilities.

According to media reports, the police detained the driver, the attack will be handled as a homicide, the city's commonwealth attorney said.

The protest's declared aim is to "affirm the right of Southerners and white people to organize for their interests just like any other group is able to do, free of persecution, as well as to "unify the right-wing against a totalitarian Communist crackdown" and to protest "displacement level immigration policies" in the US and Europe. It has been massively criticized as a "white nationalist" event.

Governor of the US state of Virginia declared a state of emergency on Saturday as a rally organized by far-right activists has turned violent in Charlottesville.

"Governor [Terry] McAuliffe has declared a state of emergency to aid state response to violence at Alt-Right rally in Charlottesville."

"It is now clear that public safety cannot be safeguarded without additional powers, and that the mostly out-of-state protesters have come to Virginia to endanger our citizens and property. I am disgusted by the hatred, bigotry and violence these protesters have brought to our state over the past 24 hours," McAuliffe said in a statement later in the day.

The state of emergency was declared as violent clashes started between the nationalists and their opponents. According to reports, several people were injured. Media reports suggested that tear gas and armored vehicles had been used to try stop the clashes.

The ‘Unite the Right Free Speech Rally’ came 3 months after alt-right activists held a torch-lit march against the removal of Confederate statue in Charlottesville and were confronted by counter-protesters.

Two Virginia State Police troopers were killed in a helicopter crash near Charlottesville, Va., that officials say is linked to violent clashes in the city, President Trump confirmed in a tweet Saturday.

“Deepest condolences to the families & fellow officers of the VA State Police who died today. You’re all among the best this nation produces,” Trump tweeted shortly before 7 p.m.

The chopper was hovering low over houses before it went down roughly two hours earlier in a wooded area near the Birdwood Golf Course, the Daily Progress newspaper reports.

Virginia State Police confirmed the fatalities in a Facebook post, but didn’t indicate the victims were troopers.

The golf course is some seven miles west of Charlottesville’s downtown area.

“The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time,” Virginia State Police said in the post.

Fights erupted and multiple people were injured when a car plowed through a crowd Saturday as white nationalists and counter-protesters violently clashed here — prompting Charlottesville police and Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe to declare a state of emergency.

Supporters gathered in Emancipation Park Saturday morning in anticipation of a noon rally held by “Unite the Right.” The aim of the rally was to protest the removal of a statue honoring Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. The park was formerly known as Lee Park.

State police and members of the Virginia National Guard surrounded the park after McAuliffe declared a state of emergency and the city of Charlottesville declared the alt-right protest an unlawful assembly — effectively cancelling the demonstration before its planned start time.

The Charlottesville Police Department reported that, as of 12:30 p.m. ET, it had made a single arrest and emergency medical personnel had responded to eight injuries.

But those may not be the only injuries related to the event. A video made after 1 p.m. ET and posted to social media appeared to show a car plow into a group of counter-protesters as they walked through the streets of Charlottesville.

CPD asked that people avoid and clear the site of the three-vehicle accident —Fourth and Water streets — in downtown Charlottesville. They reported multiple injuries. NBC News confirmed that the car that struck the crowd was a silver Dodge Charger, which built speed over two blocks before hitting the counter-protesters.

After striking a number of people, the car appears to back up and flee the scene.

Assistant city editor of the Daily Progress Mark Newton told MSNBC that witnesses reported at least nine people were injured and that “bodies went flying.”

The CPD estimated between 2,000 and 6,000 people were expected to attend the “Unite the Right” rally, according to local paper The Daily Progress. The controversial event was seeking to unify the far-right wing and “affirm the right of Southerners and white people to organize for their interests,” according to its Facebook page.

McAuliffe said he declared a state of emergency to allow for a response to quell the violence.

“It is now clear that public safety cannot be safeguarded without additional powers, and that the mostly out-of-state protesters have come to Virginia to endanger our citizens and property,” McAuliffe said in a statement released shortly before noon. “I am disgusted by the hatred, bigotry and violence these protesters have brought to our state over the past 24 hours.”

White nationalists, as well as apparent neo-Nazis and Ku Klux Klan members, were met in opposition by clergy members and other groups, who stood in a line singing “This Little Light of Mine” to drown out the profanity and slurs.

“Love has already won. We have already won,” the counter-protesters responded early Saturday.

But as the violence intensified with shoving and punching, demonstrators covered their mouths after tear gas was apparently released into the crowd.

Two people were also treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries near Emancipation Park, the city of Charlottesville tweeted, as tensions flared with back-and-forth shouting and physical posturing.

A large group of counter-protesters wore black shirts and masks and carried shields, yelling to the white nationalists: “We have replaced you. Strong, united, interracial crew.”

Once the violence had mostly come to an end, President Donald Trump denounced the clashes via a tweet that called for “ALL” to be united in their condemnation of hate.

The city and Albemarle County both issued a “declaration of local emergency” for the two jurisdictions to request additional resources.

McAuliffe said that his entire team would continue to monitor the situation and continue to coordinate with Virginia State Police, Virginia National Guard, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management as well as local and state officials.

“Local officials continue to closely monitor the situation,” Charlottesville police added on Facebook.

The University of Virginia, located in Charlottesville, cancelled all events and programming on the school’s campus.

The rally followed a night of torch-wielding white supremacists clashing with counter-protesters at the University of Virginia. Chants of “You will not replace us!” and “Blood and soil!” were met with shouts of “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA!”

Reuters and a number of local reports put the number of protester Friday in the hundreds. The Washington Post reported that the march lasted between 15 and 20 minutes.

At least one person was arrested Friday night and several others treated for minor injuries, according to The Daily Progress. Both sides reported being hit with pepper spray, the newspaper added.

Rep. Don Beyer, D.-Va., tweeted Saturday morning that “white supremacists chanting Nazi slogans aren’t Virginia or America. They are weak, ignorant, fearful people with citronella tiki torches.”

In videos posted to social media from Friday night, the white supremacists can be seen goading their opposition with shouts of “Jews will not replace us” and “white lives matter.”

The display drew condemnation from local and university officials.

“I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the hateful behavior displayed by torch-bearing protesters that marched on our grounds this evening,” University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan said in a statement. “I strongly condemn the unprovoked assault on members of our community, including university personnel who were attempting to maintain order.”

The violence displayed on the grounds is intolerable and is entirely inconsistent with the university’s values,” Sullivan added.

Charlottesville Mayor Mike Signer called the demonstration a “cowardly parade of hatred, bigotry, racism and intolerance.”

He added: “Everyone has a right under the First Amendment to express their opinion peaceably, so here’s mine: Not only as the Mayor of Charlottesville, but as a UVA faculty member and alumnus, I am beyond disgusted by this unsanctioned and despicable display of visual intimidation on a college campus.”

The King Center, founded by civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.’s widow, Coretta Scott King, tweeted that “racism never left America.”

Another version I read in Spanish said that they were chanting "you will not replace us". So I wonder if the phrase was misheard or even maliciously altered by the media? Does anyone know?

The only quote I heard from watching some of the footage was a guy yelling "You will not replace me. You'll have to kill me first." The BLM were saying that they will replace them so "you" seems to make more sense.

Someone also mentioned the car involved in the attack had baseball bat marks on its side so I wonder if it was malicious intent or if he panicked when trying to navigate down a street with anitfa. Either way it seems like the madness is only going to get worse.

Seems to be deliberately spun that way. I only heard "YOU will not replace us". It's kind of ridiculous to suggest that these people would consciously go out in public and shout "Jews will not replace us", then again, the mainstream media is kind of ridiculous these days.

Trump was not wrong when he pointed out:

What Trump said: - "We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides," Trump said. "It's been going on for a long time in our country. Not Donald Trump. Not Barack Obama. It's been going on for a long, long time."

Had a listen to the Faith Goldie interview from above, who was there on the scene, and she is not wrong to point out may of the things she did. However, it's always interesting, osit, that there is such a manufactured feel to these events, the groups in attendance - Antifa etc, the action or non actions of the authorities and even why an obscure reporting group from another country, such as Canada, are right on cue at the scene. Perhaps, not sure, someone in Canada gets the call and says, pack up your gear we are going to Virginia - and that takes time, some planning. This happened before when CBC was suddenly on scene when the nightclub shooting happened; they just happened to be there. So, just speculating out of curiosity with more data to review.

Soros and company on the left and who on the right is orchestrating to maximize effects, might be one question?

Very sad that people were crushed and injured - another who went off to soon or as intended?

That's also what I heard, "you". I mean a lot of hardcore alt-right racists don't even really hate Israel or Jews, but in fact envy them. Richard Spencer actually even looks up to Israel as how an identitarian nation should be run, which says volumes about their intentions in turning America into a "white" nation in the same way that the Zionists try and turn Palestine into a "jewish" nation.

On second thought, to clarify, went I said;

The Rebel likely tracks and follows potential left/right conflicts, so being ready and on scene might be just following their nose knowing that the likelihood of tensions spilling over would be high.

One of our French members, Tomek, was talking to me today and describing a conversation he had with someone else and suddenly, when he said one thing, the whole scene just opened up for me and began to make sense in terms of what Cs have said. They have said that the plan is to annihilate those with Semitic genetics... and that Caucasian types are the Nephilim relatives or basis. So, up to the moment when it became clear that pushing the Whites into a corner in order to force them to retaliate - which they always and only ever do with a lot of overkill - was the plan, nothing made sense. Realizing that it was planned this way made the whole thing clear.

Wise words! Okay, so the psycho-deep-state-elite want to stir up a civil war, where the Left and Right are fighting each other. Do you mean, that it has been their plan all along?

What do you see as their motive to do this? Is it just the old "create a lot of chaos, and then we will take over" thing? Or, is it more like since their frustrated of the situation, with Trump still hanging around, they want to mess things up, as a revenge or something.

Or, perhaps a combination of many things, and the fact that psychopaths are eeeevil, and just enjoy watching people kill each other.

ADDED: This guy is saying that civil unrest is being staged by agent provocateurs, so that it all can the be blamed on Trump, and then get him removed. Could be one of the reasons...

At some level, yes, I think so. See what I wrote above.
