This might be a really good time to take your sister for a picnic in the park or something like that outdoors. Although aftershocks are usually not as strong as the first quake, the danger of building collapse is actually increased as a structure takes more and more damage. Sometimes buildings will survive the initial quake, only to fall during a small aftershock due to unseen damage from the first quake.
The safest place to be after a major quake is somewhere where there's nothing that can fall on you. No building should be occupied until after a careful inspection, from foundation to roof.
