What are you listening to?

Here's a cover of one of my favourite Australian bands Karnivool, the song is called Cote and the rendition is done by a an Indian group called Arjun Kanungo | #Arjunpicks | Indian acoustic version

if you like the cover check out the original below (prog rock)

Wow, the lyrics kind of grabbed me:

Karnivool - C.O.T.E.

[1. Verse]
Are you willing to choose what I have in my mind?
Say it loud, with a voice of no reason in mind
I suppose this question will be answered
And I suppose the answers are here to save us
Have you heard have you listened lately?
Single word, single vowel, yet nothing frustrates me
[1. Bridge, 2x]
Now I don't think you like me now
[Chorus]
Have you heard, it's a silent dream
It chooses the weather of your soul stream

So drop me down, let me feel this either way
Face me inside, with a broken view, a broken heart, disappear
[1. Bridge, 2x]
[2. Bridge]
Hold it, hold it
(I won't leave you)
Now hold it down, please
(Ahhh ohhh, ahhh ohhh)
[2. Verse]
Sing alone, sing aloud, to be alive
It's so good to feel you near
Swim alone, live a dream, see me drown
All this in apathy
Be still for a moment
So you can face this world
You face it all for a moment
So you can face this world
You face this world

[2. Bridge]

I think facing the reality of this world is what we are trying to do perhaps? Thanks 987baz.

No worries goyacobol, glad you enjoyed the track. I played quite a lot of shows with these guys back in the day before they became a big touring band, really nice guys and Kenny, the singer, definitely is on the right track lyrically speaking, he's a thinker for sure and most of their songs have pretty decent questions and observations. Not to mention they are all super talented musicians.

Here's another favourite, Themata

"Themata"

Step in this room where I wanna be
Surely you mean this something
You're bringing me down to a silent breath
when it's the truth that I wanna see

Search myself for the reason
The ever loving greed
I am put off slighty
So what am I to see.. oh my love
In the sensory serenity

So pull the pin inside
Baby let it ride
Never knowin' I'm the next to see
With the fire sign
Never make it mine
Never knowin' I'm the next to be

I am learning slowly
So what am I to see
Every twist and turning
Through my hypocrisy

It's so good to see
This world is alive
It's so good to see
This world is a lie

Like a knot it binds, suffocating minds
Never knowing, I'm in the next to see
With the fire sign
Never make it mine
Never knowin' I'm the next to bleed

I am learning slowly
So what am I to see
Every twist and turning
Through my hypocrisy
Search myself for the reason
Forever loving greed
I am bored of silence
So what am I to see?

It's so good to see
This world is alive
It's so good to see
This world is a lie

Lie awake, still, as I try to breathe
Surely you mean this is something
You're bringing me down to a silent breath
and it's the truth that I wanna see

In the sensory, serenity
could it be, that I'm the next to see?
In the sensory, serenity
could it be, that I'm the next to see?
In the sensory, serenity
could it be, that I'm the next to see?
In the sensory, serenity
could it be, that I'm in ecstasy

It's so good to see
This world is alive
It's so good to see
This world isn't mine

It's So good to see
This world I'm in loves me..
So

Loreena says
: “There is something about the simplicity of voices singing in unison in a choir that has always had a special magic for me, whether it is at Christmastime in church or other gatherings, or throughout a variety of cultural and religious traditions around the world. Singing in a group is one of my earliest memories of making music, and it reminds me that in many places around the world, music is still something to participate in, rather than merely a fashion commodity to be purchased.

“The special sound of choral voices is something I hope to explore once again in the studio. It adds an air of community and shared experience that is very precious.”

I have always been a fan of Genesis, but didn't discover them until the late 70's when they became less progressive and more pop oriented. Working in transportation, I got to meet an international rep from a large German shipping company who was from Staffordshire England. As a fan of 70's progressive rock like me, he recounted a story of going to a Genesis show in 1973 that was held in a large barn as a kind of one off performance for their album release at the time. Apparently Peter Gabriel performed this track on stilts in a long, black cape with luminescent face paint, so when the band played, all the lights went off except for a black light which made his face seem to be floating ten feet high in mid-air.

Although I've been aware of Gabriel's weirdness/surrealism for many years, I only recently looked up the lyrics to this track. Despite how disarming his make-up, costume and performance is, I think he might have had some insight in 1972/3 to similar ideas that have come through what is explored on this forum. The degeneration of the "watchers" really struck a chord.

"Maybe the lizard's shed its tail,
This is the end of man's long union with Earth."

Watcher of the Skies - Genesis

Watcher of the skies, watcher of all
His is a world alone no world is his own,
He whom life can no longer surprise,
Raising his eyes beholds a planet unknown.

Creatures shaped this planet's soil,
Now their reign has come to an end,
Has life again destroyed life,
Do they play elsewhere, do they know
more than their childhood games?
Maybe the lizard's shed its tail,
This is the end of man's long union with Earth.

Judge not this race by empty remains
Do you judge God by his creatures when they are dead?
For now, the lizard's shed it's tail
This is the end of man's long union with Earth.

From life alone to life as one,
Think not now your journey's done
For though your ship be sturdy, no
Mercy has the sea,
Will you survive on the ocean of being?
Come ancient children hear what I say
This is my parting council for you on your way.

Sadly now your thoughts turn to the stars
Where we have gone you know you never can go.
Watcher of the skies watcher of all
This is your fate alone, this fate is your own.

"Rusty Cage"

You wired me awake,
And hit me with a hand of broken nails.
You tied my lead and pulled my chain,
To watch my blood begin to boil.

But I'm gonna break,
I'm gonna break my,
Gonna break my rusty cage and run.
I'm gonna break,
I'm gonna break my,
Gonna break my rusty cage and run.

Too cold to start a fire,
I'm burning diesel, burning dinosaur bones.
I'll take the river down to still water,
And ride a pack of dogs.

I'm gonna break,
I'm gonna break my,
Gonna break my rusty cage and run.
I'm gonna break,
I'm gonna break my,
Gonna break my rusty cage and run.

When the forest burns along the road,
Like God's eyes in my headlights.
When the dogs are lookin' for their bones,
And it's rainin' icepicks on your steel shore,

I'm gonna break,
I'm gonna break my,
I'm gonna break my rusty cage and run.
I'm gonna break,
I'm gonna break my,
Gonna break my rusty cage and run.

I'm gonna break,
I'm gonna break my,
Gonna break my rusty cage and run.
I'm gonna break,
I'm gonna break my,
Gonna break my rusty cage and run.

 :cheer:  just to remind myself to keep calm and love life on earth

Hop back to my heart
The only place I feel alone
I need the foreign soil

Sun rising under my feet
These kids are out here
They are my family

Now I'm gonna tell my momma
That I'm a traveller
I'm gonna follow the sun

Now I'm gonna tell my momma
That I'm a traveller
I'm gonna follow the sun

Now I'm gonna tell my momma
That I'm a traveller
I'm gonna follow the sun

Don't stop, you got to move
Keep moving on, moving on
I'm never gonna stop

Now I'm gonna tell my momma
That I'm a traveller
I'm gonna follow the sun
I'm gonna follow the sun
I'm gonna follow the sun

Don't stop, you got to move
Keep moving on, moving on
I'm never gonna stop

Now I'm gonna tell my momma
That I'm a traveller
I'm gonna follow the sun
Folllow the sun

Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh

Now I'm gonna tell my momma
That I'm a traveller
I'm gonna follow the sun

Now I'm gonna tell my momma
That I'm a traveller
I'm gonna follow the sun

Don't stop, you got to move
Keep moving on, keep moving on
I'm never gonna stop

Now I'm gonna tell my momma
That I'm a traveller
I'm gonna follow the sun
I'm gonna follow the sun
I'm gonna follow the sun
I'm gonna follow the sun
I'm gonna follow the sun

Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh

Folllow the sun

Yes, the Johnny Cash version is the best!
I heard the Soundgarden version back when I was in High School and I liked it but never got the meaning until Johnny Cash did it.
He also did an interesting cover of Nine Inch Nails' Hurt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vt1Pwfnh5pc
He sounds like he's singing about his life, from what I hear he hurt a lot of people.
I never really liked the Nine Inch Nails version, not my cup of tea.

LOVE these casper. Huge Cat Stevens fan. I'd never heard of this Calum Scott, this song is brilliant.

A couple of songs I've been playing on repeat lately. Both incredibly different in style!

This is one I've been playing around with doing some dance yoga to:
