What are you listening to?

REM:"Everybody Hurts"
(Berry/Buck/Mills/Stipe)

When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
When you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on
Don't let yourself go, 'cause everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes

Sometimes everything is wrong. Now it's time to sing along
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go, (hold on)
When you think you've had too much of this life, well hang on

'Cause everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts. Don't throw your hand. Oh, no. Don't throw your hand
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone

If you're on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
When you think you've had too much of this life to hang on

Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
Everybody cries. And everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes. So, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Everybody hurts. You are not alone

With the BP oil spill and Gaza flotilla it's put me in a ripe mood for listening to some John Trudell

Rich Man's War lyrics
by John Trudell

hay ah iy ya hey iy ah hey......

rich mans war,
industrial strengths
class lines money talks,
turning language into paper pieces
rich man's war free man's society.
raging violent insecurity
nuclear man, nuclear woman unclear how to act.

rich man's war
Pershings cruising Europe.
America Russia governmental nuclear views
industrial allies cutting the world
as though they cannot see blood flow

rich man's war
Central America bleeding
wounds same as Palestine and Harlem
Three Mile Island in El Salvador
Pine Ridge in Belfast

rich man's war
the poor, starving for food
starving for land, starving for peace,
starving for real.

rich man's war
attacking human, attacking being
attacking wits attacking tomorrow

rich man's war
thinking of always war
thinking of always war.

with chains for ancestors new unborn generations
chemical umbilical chords are only wiring
in your electrical progress
human eyes burnt offerings to the god greed
with lies for ancestors

there is no truth in some futures
yours and minds feeding next generation souls
to the control machine.
sacrifice ritual with a proper technology
with isolation for ancestors

there is only a present bought by the credit
material users forging chains binding you
to destruction compliments of your deities
the industrial priest.
.
hay ah iy ya hey iy ah hey......

no more than neon flash
trying hiding in neon mask
that face who we really are and at some point
we had no choice.
distant star distant light

in real world we are human being
in shadow of real world we are
being human.

neon mask for neon flash.
distant thunder distant cloud
passions reign drenched in possession
what we take is hard to do
what we do is hard to take
its so crazy maybe we take turns
trained by some kind of life we say
"it could have been different".
but it wasn't because we weren't
no matter what it turns out the same
a lot of things we said weren't true
industrial stories in an electrical instant
neon mask neon flash neon flash.

thing is nihilistic desires
civilized gone insane
didn't imagine it turning like this
somethings start good and go bad
somethings get bad and stay bad.
when caught in between living a lie or
not living at all
eliminated choices lost in dreams we let go
memories we never got to have
something else to think about...
waking up in industrial society
surrounded by angry days , going through motions
of not really.
wanting the best but not expecting it.
surviving paid for in dreams
feeling like a world alone serving god
with the devil to pay.
feeling like something in one place
what goes on in hell anyway?

thing is, it has to do with heart.
we have to understand what hearts are for
before we can get back to heaven or paradise
or OUR MIND.
.
hay ah iy a hey e ya hay........

I don't listen to much heavy music any more but this song, Hollow Ground, by Hatebreed (yeah I know, icky) gave me a lot of strength when I needed it. And it still pumps me up when I feel like I'm losing steam. If you're a rocker then I bet you'll like it! Here it is

Lyrics:

From nothing we have risen and from nothing we still rise

Take your life back
Fight, fight
Will you fight to take your life back?

Ask yourself what's truly yours in life
Are you in control or someone's slave?
All that you cherish, all that you love
In the blink of an eye can be taken from you
In moments of tragedy we bond
And in weakness clarity thrives
I've been blessed with the inspiration
To take what little I have and always strive

Sometimes surviving is all that you can do
I never claimed to have all the answers or the solutions
My satisfaction is knowing, that my desires will not be killed
With a readiness to defend what is mine and never compromise

The foundation of our lives
Built on hollow ground
We must unlearn the prejudice
We must unlearn the lies

I've seen the calloused
I know the jaded
I've been disheartened and I've lost control
But I never crumbled in the face of adversity
And I always force myself to believe

The foundation of our lives
Built on hollow ground
We must unlearn the prejudice
We must unlearn the lies

Are you willing to fight?
Are you willing?

Take your life back
Fight fight
Will you fight to take your life back?

Window Seat

so, presently i’m standing
here right now
you’re so demanding
tell me what u want from me
concluding
concentrating on my music , lover , and my babies
makes me wanna ask the lady for a ticket outta town…
so can i get a window seat
don’t want nobody next to me
i just want a ticket outta town
a look around
and a safe touch down
window seat
don’t want nobody next to me
i just want a chance to fly
a chance to cry
and a long bye bye..
but i need u to want me
need you to miss me
i need your attention
i need you next me
i need someone to clap for me
i need your direction
somebody say come back
come back baby come back
i want u to need me
come back come back baby come back
come back come back baby come back
come back come back baby come back
so, in my mind i’m tusslin’
back and forth ‘tween here and hustlin’
i don’t wanna time travel no mo
i wanna be here
i’m thinking
on this porch i’m rockin’
back and forth light lightning hopkins
if anybody speak to scotty
tell him beam me up..
so can i get a window seat
don’t want nobody next to me
i just want a ticket outta town
a look around
and a safe touch down
window seat
don’t want nobody next to me
i just want a chance to fly
a chance to cry
and a long bye bye..
but i need you to miss me
need somebody come get me
need your attention
need your energy yes i do
need someone to clap for me
need your affection
somebody say come back
come back baby come back
i want u to need me
come back come back baby come back
come back come back baby come back
come back come back baby come back
but can i get a window seat
don’t want nobody next to me
i just want a ticket outta town
a look around
and a safe touch down…
i just need a chance to fly
a chance to cry
and a long
bye bye……..

i am listening toooooooo....get ready for it. get ready..."new" rolling stones from the early 70's! that's right! the rolling stones have been descending into the darkness of their over contrived lyrics and over-produced music for the last 30 years (unfortunately as long as i've been alive). however, just recently they released some new music with the re-remastering of their brilliant (and certainly not over-produced) "exile on mainstreet". there are ten new tracks, which their new producer has uncovered in some warehouse in england. some new guitar lightly strummed over the old recordings, mick sang a few new vocal...but, by and large, it's golden age stones. this goes out to all those sts individuals who have plundered my soul from time to time ;D

Can you believe it? I've won more medals in this love game.
I’ve been resting on my laurels. I’m a bad loser
I'm a yard off my pace.
Hhmmm I smell rubber and I soon discovered
That you’re gone for good.
My indiscretions made a bad impression
Guess I was misunderstood.

I thought you needed my loving
But it's my heart that you stole.
I thought you wanted my money
But you plundered my soul

(Plundered my soul)

I started asking around but your friend's
pretty lips were sealed
I wrote a letter full of drabble and tried the fashions and my wounds that heal
I heard some gossip, you've become an alcoholic, you’'e dryin’ out.
So I phoned every clinic in the yellow pages, not a trace I found.

I thought you needed my loving
But it's my heart that you stole.
I thought you wanted my money
But you plundered my soul.
(You plundered my soul)

I hate quittin’but I'm close to admittin I'm a sorry case.
But on quiet reflection, my sad rejections not a total disgrace.
But I do miss your quick repartee and the smile
That lights anekatips up your face.
You'll be a hard act to follow. A bitter pill to swallow.
You'll be tough, o you’re tough to replace.

I thought you wanted my loving
But it's my heart that you stole.
You were the trick up my sleeve
My ace in the hole.
I thought you wanted my money
But you plundered my soul.
Oh plundered my soul oh yeeeah
(You plundered my soul)

it's pure awesomeness. here's a link...you can listen to it online: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eB5i38QzFIw

Political Lies by Robin Williamson

from The Iron Stone http://www.jazzloft.com/p-43848-the-iron-stone.aspx (2007) ECM Records

In the summer that my son was born,
In the same changing town that fathered me,
I retraced many steps trying to fill my own footsteps,
But this is the truth, perhaps, there is no return.

[chorus]
Political lies, political promises,
This shadow everywhere, a sense of powerlessness,
You and I left, stumbling in the blindness,
The blindness of Wall Street, Moscow, and Whitehall.

How many miles I walked,
By the Union Canal,
Thinking of the hands that made it,
The hands of the navvies,
Thinking of the patient horses,
That pulled along the barges,
Whose tow-ropes have rubbed grooves,
On the pillars of the bridges,
And about this: What rubs you rubs me.

[chorus]
Political lies, political promises,
This shadow everywhere, a sense of powerlessness,
You and I left, wading in the history,
A history of mystery, a history of betrayal.

All along the banks,
Of the Union Canal,
I walked in the flaming sunset,
Of one summer's evening,
Scottish skinhead, glue-head,
Scottish flag tatooed on his head,
Looks at the sky and asks me,
What does it mean?

[chorus]
Political lies, political promises,
This shadow everywhere, a sense of powerlessness,
You and I left, basking in the anguish,
The anguish of those we have falied to heal.

In the night I listen to my own darkness,
I think being born and dying,
Of the same Jacks and Aces,
I think about the signature of God on the prison,
And about following signs and becoming lost again.

[Chorus]
Political lies, political promises,
A shadow everywhere, a sense of powerlessness,
You and I left, with the same old questions,
The sheer unspeakable strangeness of being here at all.

Baba ~ Alanis Morissette

I’ve seen them kneel with faded breath for the ritual
I’ve watched this experiance with psuedo higher levels
I’ve watched them leave their family in pursuit of their nirvana
I’ve seen them coming to line up from switzerland and america

How long will this take, baba?
How long have we been sleeping?
Do you see me hanging on to every word you say?
How soon will I be holy?
How much will this cost, guru?
How much longer ’till you’ve completely absolved me?

I’ve seen them give their drugs in places of natured alters
I’ve heard them chanting kali, kali, frantically
I’ve heard them rodely repeat you teachers with iditism
I’ve seen them boasting the roads, and forgein dangle woods, beat

How long will this take, baba?
How long have we been sleeping?
Do you see me hanging on to every word you say?
How soon will I be holy?
How much will this cost, guru?
How much longer ’till you’ve completely absolved me?

Ave maria, ave maria...

I’ve seen them overlooking God in their own essance
I’ve seen their upward glances in hopes of instant salvation
I’ve seen their ritcheouness mixed with their own loving confessions
I’ve watched you smile at the people who bowed to kiss your feet

How long will this take, baba?
How long have we been sleeping?
Do you see me hanging on to every word you say?
How soon will I be holy?
How much will this cost, guru?
How much longer ’till you’ve completely absolved me?

Give me strength all knowing one
How long ’till enlightenment?
How much longer ’till you’ve completely absolved me?

Ave maria, ave maria, ave maria, ave maria

Ivy - Edge of the Ocean
Songwriters: Chase, Andy; Durand, Dominique; Schlesinger, Adam

There's a place I dream about
Where the sun never goes out.
And the sky is deep and blue.
Won't you take me there with you.

Ohhh, we can begin again.
Shed our skin, let the sun shine in.
At the edge of the ocean
We can start over again.

There's a world I've always known
Somewhere far away from home.
When I close my eyes I see
All the space and mystery.

Ohhh, we can begin again.
Shed our skin, let the sun shine in.
At the edge of the ocean
We can start over again.

I Believe In You - Kylie Minogue

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZp2bk4YHFY&feature=related

I don't believe you know me

Though you know my name

I don't believe the faults I have

Are only mine to blame

I don't believe that magic

Is only in the mind

I don't believe I'd love somebody

Just to pass the time

But I believe in you

And I believe in you

I don't believe that beauty

Will ever be replaced

I don't believe a masterpiece

Could ever match your face

The joker's always smiling

In every hand that's dealt

I don't believe that when you die

Your presence isn't felt

But I believe in you

And I believe in you
[ Kylie Minogue Lyrics are found on www.dapslyrics.com ]

But I believe in you

And I believe in you

And if you ever have to go away

Nothing in my world could ever be the same

Nothing lasts forever, but together 'til then

I'll give you everything I have, again and again

'Cause I believe in you, I believe in

I believe in you, I believe in

I believe in you, I believe in

I believe in you, I believe in

'Cause I believe in you

And I believe in you

But I believe in you

And I believe in you

I believe in you, I believe in

I believe in you, I believe in

I believe in you, I believe in

I believe in you, I believe in

John Sebastian, Welcome Back

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YigR9J22z0w

Welcome back
Your dreams were your ticket out
Welcome back
To that same old place that you laughed about
Well the names have all changed since you hung around
But those dreams have remained and they've turned around
Who'd have thought they'd lead ya
Back here where we need ya
Yeah, we tease him a lot 'cause we got him on the spot

Welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back

Welcome back
We always could spot a friend, welcome back
And I smile when I think how it must have been
And I know what a scene you were learning in
Was there something that made you come back again
And what could ever lead ya
Back here where we need ya
Yeah, we tease him a lot cause we got him on the spot

Welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back

And I know what a scene you were learning in
Was there something that made you come back again
And what could ever lead ya
Back here where we need ya
Yeah, we tease him a lot cause we got him on the spot

Welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back

Yeah, we tease him a lot
Welcome back, welcome back
'Cause we got him on the spot
Welcome back, welcome back

Yeah, we tease him a lot cause we got him on the spot
Welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back

This song brings tears to my eyes.

Papercuts, "The World I Love"

The world I love
Has gone away
What I'd give
To make it stay

The world I love
Is in my head
Though we're taught
To remember where

They don't know
You give me all your heart
But what has passed
Can never fall apart

The world I love
Is killing me
It so ....
Surely

The world I love
Has gone away
Gotta let it go
Just let it go
The world I love
Has gone

The world I love
Said it's gone now

The world I love

"Turn"
Travis

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to8_8z9uu5A

I want to see what people saw
I want to feel like I felt before
I want to see the kingdom come
I want to feel forever young
I want to sing
To sing my song
I want to live in a world where I belong
I want to live
I will survive

And I believe that it won't be very long
If we turn, turn, turn, turn, turn

Then we might learn
So where's the stars?
Up in the sky
And what's the moon?
A big balloon
We'll never know unless we grow
There's so much world outside the door
I want to sing
To sing my song
I want to live in a world where I'll be strong
I want to live
I will survive

And I believe that it won't be very long
If we turn, turn, turn, turn

And if we turn, turn, turn, turn
Then we might learn
Turn, turn, turn, turn
Turn, turn, turn
And if we turn, turn, turn, turn
Then we might learn
Learn to turn
