Mumford & Sons - "After The Storm"

Into the storm and out the other side, a little Lauraish in a Tom French kind of way.

Soundtrack to Twister (song Twisted)
- Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham

You think you hear demons
I think you are the demon
In this place
Where the images are born
You remember your childhood
Aw, in fiery sequences

The sun goes down
Fillin' the air with color
Winds lift you up to God
Lift you up to God

You fall to your knees
You embrace the storm
And you no longer care
If it's cold or if it's warm
You live for the danger
Like your passion and your anger

You don't let go
You like to be twisted by the force
You like to be shaken by the wind
In this game that you play with God
You've been warned to retreat

I know, you know
Watching you go is like dying
Is like dying

Take it to the limit
When the winds come up
Crazy men, crazy women
Cryin' out for love
You'd like to save her
But you just can't give it up

You'd rather be wrapped up
In the arms of the storm
You'd rather be wrapped up
In the arms of the storm
Crazy men, crazy women
In the arms of the storm

And the sun goes down
The sun goes down
Chasin' down the demons
Chasin' down the demons
You think you hear demons
You think you hear demons
Cryin' out for love
I think you are the demon

Chasin' down the demons
The sun goes down
Chasin' the demons down
The sun goes down
You'd rather be wrapped up
The sun goes down
In the arms of the storm
Chasin' down the demons
Chasin' down the demons
They're cryin' out for love
Chasin' the demons down
Love
Chasin' down the demons
The sun goes down

"Once When I Was Little"
by James Morrison

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVa-9TO4tD0&feature=related

I was the one,
Who would always
Jump in first
Didn't think twice
To look behind
Got such a good feeling,
Just from playing
In the dirt
Once,
When I was little

We could build a rocket,
Fly to the moon
Leave Tuesday morning,
And be back for noon
There wasn't nothing,
Nothing that we couldn't do
Once, when I was little umm
Once, when I was little

Yeah I could dream more then
Yeah I believed more then
That the world
Could only get better
Yeah I was free more then
I could pretend more then
That this life could
Only show me good times
Once, when I was little
Umm ohh lalala

There was a time
When I trusted everyone
Yes I did
There was no place
That I would not go oh no
Spend a day on the hillside
Next to the holly mo
Oh once, when I was little
Yea once, when I, I was little

Yeah I could dream more then
Yeah I believe more then
That this world
Could only get better
Yeah I was free more then
I could pretend more then
That this life could
Only show me good times
Once, when I was little

Used to feel so strong
Even when they tell me,
Tell me I was wrong
That I can't live
In a magic world
Cause it's time
For me to grow up
That I got to be
Like the rest of them
When I know
There acting up ohh

I could believe more
Then yes I could
I could pretend more then
That this life could
Only get better
I could believe more
Then yes I could
I could pretend more then

That this world could
Only show me good times
Once, when I was little
When I was little

So here comes the next one,
The next in line
Stay as young you can,
For the longest time
Cause those days flew by
Like a breeze
Just passing through
Once, when I was little

Killing Joke - Asteroid (2003)

And the 3rd Angel sounded
And a star fell from heaven
Burning as it were a lamp
And it fell upon the 3rd part of the waters

Asteroid

I'm a ball of fire
Fire from heaven
Terror from nowhere
You'll never shoot me down
Days turns to minutes
5 seconds till it hits us
3 seconds to ground
1 second to ….

Asteroid
Coming in from the void

On the bed of the ocean
Where history lies
Strange civilisations
Vapourised
Days turns to minutes
5 seconds till it hits us
3 seconds to ground
1 second to ….

Asteroid

I.N.R.I
Nature renewed by fire made whole

And I climb to the mountain
Light to dark
Behind time and space
A hole in your Ark
Days turns to minutes
5 seconds till it hits us
3 seconds to ground
1 second to ….

Heard this song the other day. I haven't heard it for years and never really paid attention to all the lyrics until now.

Bullet With Butterfly Wings

By Smashing Pumpkins

The world is a vampire, sent to drain
Secret destroyers, hold you up to the flames
And what do I get, for my pain?
Betrayed desires, and a piece of the game

Even though I know - I suppose I'll show
All my cool and cold - like old job

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage

Now I'm naked, nothing but an animal
But can you fake it, for just one more show?
And what do you want?
I want to change
And what have you got, when you feel the same?

Even though I know - I suppose I'll show
All my cool and cold - like old job

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage

Tell me I'm the only one
Tell me there's no other one
Jesus was the only son, yeah.
Tell me I'm the chosen one
Jesus was the only son for you

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
And someone will say what is lost can never be saved
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage

Despite all my rage am I still just a rat in a-
Despite all my rage am I still just a rat in a-
Despite all my rage am I still just a rat in a cage

Tell me I'm the only one
Tell me there's no other one
Jesus was the only son for you

[x4]
And I still believe that I cannot be saved

Type O Negative

I don't wanna be me

Lyrics:

I don't wanna be me anymore

Ever throwing at his home
Two glass houses, twenty stones
Fourteen yellow, six are blue
Could it be worse?.. Quite doubtful.

I don't wanna be me anymore
I don't wanna be me anymore

1-2
1-2-3-4.

Two steps forward, three steps back
Without warning, heart attack
He fell asleep in the snow
Never woke up, died alone

I don't wanna be me anymore
I don't wanna be me anymore

1-2
1-2-3-4.

[x2]
Please don't dress in black
When you're at his wake
Don't go there to mourn
But to celebrate

I don't wanna be me anymore
I don't wanna be me anymore

1-2
1-2-3-4.

I don't wanna be me anymore
I don't wanna be me anymore

"Concrete Angel" - Martina McBride

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtNYA4pAGjI

She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holding back
Wearing the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with the linen and lace, oh

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born

Through the wind and the rain she stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place
Where she's loved concrete angel

Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear but they turn out the light
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it will be too late

Through the wind and the rain she stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place
Where she's loved concrete angel

A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot

Through the wind and the rain she stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place
Where she's loved concrete angel

Queensryche's "Heaven on Their Minds" from Jesus Christ Superstar

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMS1j6gA234

My parents had Jesus Christ Superstar around when I was a little kid, and I remember liking it so much that I'd get the record out and start playing it myself so that I could listen over and over again. This is Queensryche's remake of what is probably the best-known song off of the soundtrack. It's a little weird how they sync it with the original movie footage, but this is all I could find on YouTube. Enjoy!

Ouf, so many years ago. It was very popular at that time and I did listen to it quite a lot.

"I Don't Know How to Love Him" was big too. Here's an ABBA solo prequel version:

Well, thinking of Queensryche brought to mind a couple of other old favorites from Empire. The first is Silent Lucidity:

Another is Is Anybody Listening?:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9IczkS9SOE

I like this one especially, and the lyrics kind of take on a new meaning for me now than they used to:

You and I
long to live like the wind upon the water.
If we close our eyes, we'll maybe realize
there's more to life than what we have known.
And I can't believe I've spent so long
living lies I knew were wrong inside,
I've just begun to see the light.

Long ago there was a dream,
had to make a choice or two.
Leaving all I loved behind,
for what nobody knew.
Stepped out on the stage, a life
under lights and judging eyes.
Now the applause has died and I
can dream again...

Is there anybody listening?
Is there anyone that sees what's going on?
Read between the lines,
criticize the words they're selling.
Think for yourself and feel the walls
become sand beneath your feet

Feel the breeze?
Time's so near you can almost taste the freedom.
There's a warm wind from the south.
Hoist the sail and we'll be gone,
by morning this will all seem like a dream.
And if I don't return to sing the song,
maybe just as well.
I've seen the news and there's
not much I can do...alone.

Is there anybody listening?
Is there anyone who smiles without a mask?
What's behind the words--
Images they know will please us?
I'll take what's real. Bring up the lights.

Is there anybody listening?
Is there anyone that sees what's going on?
Read between the lines,
criticize the words they're selling.
Think for yourself and feel the walls...
become sand beneath your feet.

Oh, and here's an interesting rendition of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb I just ran across by Queensryche and Dream Theatre:

Anyone out there like the Foos? I've always liked the Foo Fighters' Everlong. For me, it's kind of a love song that doesn't even try to pretend it's a love song -- it's too raw and vulnerable. I think the composition and energy are really well-matched to the lyrics -- the guitar part is pretty fun to play too.
