What are you listening to?

Yep, it's a rare groove/funk genre, mainly in the UK back in the early 90's. Brand New Heavies were an awesome example, love 'em.

Yeah, awesome. Kinda retro, put me in the mind of the theme from movie "Shaft," by Issac Hayes (1971)...maybe a little:

Here's something I was waiting post...I listen to a lot of different styles, but this song is in my top favorites:
Grover Washington Jr.: "Just the Two of Us"....hope you like it. Can't remember when it came out but I was in my mid 20s listening to it...so 40 or more years ago:

When I lived in London in the years 94-98, this music was played in the chill out rooms in nightclubs. I have many great memories listening to this era of music. The musicians were very technically capable and clearly loved the funk music of the 70's.

Oh,and Issac Hayes and Grover Washington are proper legends of the scene. Thanks for the share!:cool2:

Two final cuts then I'm done, honest. :-) Taken from an old CD I've got which I ordered from NYC about ten years back. It was out of print and I had to pay over the odds to have it shipped over to the shires of Wales, lol. More moody this stuff, reminds me of 70's spy films.

First called 'American Rhapsody', George Gershwin wrote the piece in four days - which was a good thing - because he was supposed to write a new jazz-concerto for the highlight piece of a concert, a concert he'd completely forgotten about.

Speaking about 'Rhapsody in Blue' and it's composition, he said, "Well, there I was, rattling away [at the piano] without a thought of rhapsodies in blue or any other color. All at once I heard myself playing a theme that must have been haunting me inside, seeking outlet. No sooner had it oozed out of my fingers than I knew I had found it."

Here is the original - with the piano played by the composer himself.

And, for those of you who prefer the 'full-monte' jazz/orchestral version, voila:
