What supplements do you take?

I`v noticed lately I have a nagging cough. Sometimes I`ll cough and there will be brown phlegm. I`m assuming it`s from smoking.Lately, I have increased the amount of cigarettes I smoke per day. I`d say 5-6 per day. I do smoke organic american spirit loose tobacco and roll my own with the raw hemp papers. I try to roll them thin so I`m not smoking as much tobacco.

When I notice the coughing and brown phlegm, I take a couple thousand mg`s of vitamin C and it goes away for a while. Just wondering if anyone else experienced the same with smoking. I so enjoy cigarettes. I really don`t want to give them up.

How long have you been smoking and how long have you had the cough?

I smoke 10 to 12 cigarettes a day and up to two bowls of pipe, which I also inhale (Mac Baren Original Choice pipe tobacco). Each bowl is probably equivalent to about four cigarettes or so. Once in a while I have phlegm, and have to clear my through or cough to clear it, but it's not like a "hacking" cough, just my throat will be a bit full of phlegm. I haven't been taking much Vitamin C for a while to know if it makes a difference. But I've been smoking for decades, so I don't know if our experiences are comparable. FWIW.

Is it just the cough Nancy? Have you had a sore throat or felt run down at all? I ask, because there's some kind of bug going around down here with a nagging cough. It went through my family.

Just thought I'd mention that FWIW. I hope you get to the bottom of it and are feeling better soon.

Thanks for your response Seekin Truth and Chrissy. I`v been smoking organic cigs for years. I`m not feeling bad. It`s not a cough that happens all the time. It happens mostly in the morning til about noon time. My glands aren`t swollen and no sore throat. When I take vit C it does go away for the day, then returns. It`s been going on now for about 3 weeks. It`s just a feeling that I have that it might be the smoking that is causing it, I think. I would really hate to give up cigs to find out  :cool2: I was wondering if anyone else experienced this sort of thing from smoking?

While it could be related to smoking, I'm wondering why it started in the last three weeks? Did something change in that time that you can think of?

Hi Nancy2feathers,

It may be a detox reaction of some kind. When I first started using the FAR infrared sauna, I would cough quite a bit when I was in it and days after and still do, but much less now. Does the phlegm have a funny taste? My phlegm tasted like chemicals the first few months. Also, when I switched from commercially made cigs to additive free cigs, I had a cough with brown phlegm. It sounds like your lungs are clearing out some.

For myself I've been taking 2000 UID's of D3 for a month now and have found it does help with joint pain. I've not had to take an Advil, but twice in a month and use to take one or two a day. I've also been taking a complete B vitamin to help with diabetic neuropathy.. Have my Husband on several substrates found in the creb cycle...ones that are to help with A-fib.

Are you and your husband still eating gluten? You'd be amazed at how many things clear up once that evil stuff is eliminated.

Nienna, I've given up bread, white flour, rice, (processed white foods)etc. Husband seems to be having a harder time with it though. xoox

Yeah, I'd have to agree with Nienna. Eliminating gluten and dairy can have remarkable results. Also do you take vitamin K2 with the D (and may need vit A too for balance), it might be a good idea if you don't already, especially if you go any higher in your dosage.

SeekinTruth, no just the D3 and complete B. I gave up Dairy, except for butter over a year ago and my hormones have settled for the best. too many hormones in milk.

Hi :)
I've been reading this topic so I wanted to add my voice but I need also, please, some advises so, here what I'm taking:

-live probiotic 1caps a day ( each one 24 billion of live cells )
-Magnesium citrate 1tsp or 2 a day ( each tsp is about 2gr )
-Rhodiola rosea 2 caps a day ( each 450mg )
-Cod liver oil 1 spoon a day
- B-complex 1 tablet a day

About the B-complex I think it is a low dosage, this is the content of each tablet:

-nicotinamide 16mg
-pantothenic acid 9mg
-vit B6 2,1mg
-vit B2 1,4mg
-vit B1 1,1mg
-folic acid 200mcg
-vit B12 2,5mcg
I'm reading Primal Body, Primal Mind and at page 319 ( an abbreviate guide to supplementation ) it suggest to take 1 to 5 mg per day, it is said also that the absorption from food could be difficult and so when it come to supplementation,it is better more than less. So if I read it correctly 2,5 microgram of B12 for tablet it's a real scars dosage but if this it's true the same could be for the dosage of the others components of the complex. On the box it is said to take 1 tablet a day because it cover what is needed for a day. Another point is the presence of magnesium stereate, stearic acid, dioxide silicon (SiO2 ) the first two contribute to lower absorption.I begin to think that this product ( I bought it in pharmacy ) is useless.
I've seen the thread where are suggested websites for purchase supplementation but I don't know, it's better to continue to use tablets or to buy powders and in this case how to put all together safely in the right way? Any suggestion or comment would be really appreciated.

Thankyou by Ada :flowers:

I think the powders have the added benefit of being more pure and cheaper in the long run. But know that at _iherb.com, you can find pretty much any brand and any supplement. They list ingredients so can check out what you are looking to avoid and so forth. They have also good prices and ship internationally. You can finish your B complex and perhaps choose another format to see if it makes a difference. The important thing is that you are making dietary changes and after reading the book, you'll have a better idea which supplements you want to experiment with. :)

Thankyou Psyche for answering my post and for the informations, I've already gone to visit the website you suggested and seen products I want to try; as for dietary changes I can't eat dairy, yeasts, gluten, as for vegetables and fruit, very few because I can't tolerate too much fibre, and I'm returning to be gluten free. Last winter I've made an experiment with low carb diet so no dairy, no gluten,I've been eating mostly red and white meats , jam, bacon, eggs, salmon, mackerel and cod fish, ghee for cooking, nuts, I was about 70gr a day of carb and it was wonderful, this went on for about 3 month then I had to end in part the experiment for gallbladder problems ( a sort of sand in it ) and too low blood pressure. I've not been able to eat the necessary amount of fat and during the crisis of low blood pressure I went to eat also normal cake with sugar, gluten etc.,for some time it was chaos. Now the situation is normal with a bit more carb and a bit less fat so that I'm able to tolerate and I'm going to begin a cure for melt ( if possible ) the sand in the gallbladder and, as I said, no more gluten . My doctor was horrified when I told her about my experiment but I've never felt better in all my life, a lot of energy, mental and physical, no gastric or intestinal problems and so on, I miss very much that condition :( and I hope I can soon return to it also if now is not bad.

With my kindest regards :) :flowers:

after niacin reception, now it already 2000 mg, at me appear a phlegm (without cough) during flush, I believe it a good sign here as without it the phlegm isn't present, and directly action of niacin pushes out it outside

At present, all I am taking is Blackmores magnesium powder, which has :

Magnesium citrate (Magnesium 310 mg) 2 g
Taurine 500 mg
Glutamine 500 mg
Levocarnitine tartrate (Levocarnitine 100 mg) 147 mg
Calcium hydrogen phosphate anhydrous (Calcium 65 mg) 223.4 mg
Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid) 100 mg
Vitamin B1 (Thiamine nitrate) 25 mg
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) 5 mg
Nicotinamide 25 mg
Vitamin B5
(Pantothenic acid from calcium pantothenate 50 mg) 45.8 mg
Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine hydrochloride) 50 mg
Vitamin B12 (Cyanocobalamin) 20 µg
Folic acid 150 µg
Selenomethionine (as Selenium 25 µg) 62.5 µg
Potassium aspartate (Potassium 75 mg) 362.3 mg
Chromium nicotinate (Chromium 50 µg) 400 mcg

I'm just having it at night, but I think I'll have it twice a day (morning dose as well). Need it for the leg cramps and keeping the bowels regular on the keto diet (started 3 days ago). I may also look at taking PQQ from the thread about it here. I was taking liposomal Vit C, didn't notice any significant changes, (other than diarrhoea), and I haven't made another batch since.

ADDED: I'm taking digestive enzymes as well ( each tablet has betaine HCl 650mg, pepsin 31.5 mg, gentiana lutea powder 29mg)- these vary with size of meat/fat serving.
