What's the weather where you are?

Indian summer (the finest one) in Split, Dalmatia. Temperatures over day just "in balance" - between warm and hot, sea around 22 degrees C, few tourists - and it will stay likewise for the following weekend.

September was in parts of Scandinavia warmer than usual
Denmark was on par with the most sunny years, 201 hours of sun and the warmest 16,2 Degrees Celsius on average. http://www.dmi.dk/nyheder/arkiv/nyheder-2016/oktober/september-tangerede-baade-sol-og-varmerekord/
Parts of Southern Norway have also been warmer than usual in September: http://www.yr.no/artikkel/costa-del-vestland---den-nye-solkysten_-1.13158038
In Sweden the temperatures in the Southern parts reached record levels: http://www.smhi.se/bloggar/vaderleken-2-3336/september-kan-lokalt-bli-rekordvarm-och-varmare-an-augusti-1.109221
And if we look a bit outside Scandinavia?
In Finland they are less record obsessed, apparently, but looking at the graph for the past 30 days, it appears the temperatures on average have been above the usual temperatures measured for this time of the year:

There is nothing written on the Icelandic site, but the link is here http://en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/areas/ What is perhaps more interesting is the page about Earthquakes, which on Iceland can also influence the weather and roadconditions:

Seismic swarm at Katla - 30.9.2016

An intense seismic swarm is ongoing since yesterday morning 29 September at Katla volcano. An intense pulse started today at 12:02 (30 September) with several earthquakes around magnitude 3 or larger. No seismic tremor has been detected. Due to the unusually high level of unrest at the Katla volcano we rise the aviation colour code from green to yellow. The volcano continues to be monitored closely.

Croatia

According to the forecasts, the worst should happen tonight (red alert since 8 pm today)‌‌‌‌

Re: Major Storm in France (Mediterranean) now

The event affects mostly Aude and Herault (Southern France). It started 24 hours ago

Some measurements:
- 10 m (33 ft) waves measured by Sete buoy
- 140 km/h (85 mph) wind gusts
- Already 25 cm (10 in) of rain over the last 24 hours

The worse should happen tonight according to forecasts with a total of 40+ cm (1ft 4in) of rain over the whole event (60 hours)

The strong wind, heavy rain and huge waves are unusual and destructive when taken separately, but here, the combination of the three might lead to serious floods because the wind coming from the sea (South East) and the waves push the sea towards the coast, preventing the overflowing rivers to flow down properly into the sea.

Here is a picture of the sea overflowing in Frontignan:

Re: Major Storm in France (Mediterranean) now

You could think that's by the Atlantic coast, but it's in the (usually) nice and quiet Mediterranean sea!

Just as small linguistic observation:

The areas (Department) that are being affected are called "Hérault" and "Aude"

HÉRAULT:
carte-departement-Herault.jpg

Pronounced just the same as "héraut", which is an old word for herald/harbinger/messenger.

AUDE: (as in "aude sapere" in Latin)

In Latin, it means: intend, be prepared; dare/have courage (to go/do), act boldly, venture, risk;

Just thought it was a bit "funny", since not many other French Departments have names with meanings like these.

It's a lot of rain indeed. 35 cm (1ft 2in) fell in Port Vendres over the last 24 hours. In the same region (Saint Jean de Védas), 17 cm (7 in) fell in one hour

I hope you all stay safe!

We are about 200 km from the storm which should stay over the coastal regions, so it should be ok.

Southeast winds up to 80 km/h can be expected over East Vancouver Island, the Sunshine

Special Weather Statement

Issued at 11:34 Thursday 13 October 2016

We have one too in the NW area of the US, but not as bad I believe.

Yeah, got a text early this morning from my cousin in the city alerting me to the storm that is suppose to hit this week. They mentioned filling up a five gallon jug of water and getting some more supplies. Going by what the front page of the paper had to say about the storm, the worst of the weather could hit north of Oregon.
