What's the weather where you are?

Yesterday weather was sheets of rain here. But we were lucky we only had 61 liter per m2 since Tuesday afternoon. There were German regions that that already 85 liter / m2 yesterday. There are floodings in many German regions.

This morning we are seeing the sun again.

This was near where I live in Northern Spain. It hailed like for 15 minutes straight on July 23rd. Some properties had losses worth millions of euros and over 100 cars were damaged.

Jeez Gaby those were some heavy ammo from above - maybe we all shall find some concrete bunkers from WW2 (there are a number of them in Split) to move in there.... :scared:

Sizzling HOT in Split, Dalmazzia. Temperatures almost 40°C. Even lizards are more comfortable in shades. Tomorrow will be a couple degrees hotter. This pattern is expected to continue to the end of the week. Hot African air from Sahara desert is a culprit...

The heat and fires continues in BC. Last night around 10:00 pm (there was an advisory sent out - https://weather.gc.ca/warnings/index_e.html) the airflow suddenly changed while a few nearby fires continued to cook off and then the katabatic winds sent all the smoke down-slope into the valley bottoms. The oppressive smoke filled the outside air and then subsequently it filled the house too. If not knowing where the fires were I would have said they were right outside the door it was that strong. The air slightly lifted this morning and there was ash here and there. It was also noted that the city of Vancouver (and areas) was smoked out as the airflow flooded from the provincial interior out towards the Pacific ocean.

Except for the brief rain at the last full moon change (cold front), the cycle of heat has been steady among rising drought codes nearing those of 2003. All this is so tough on the elderly, ill and children, so, being careful with what one wishes for, a little rain would be welcomed.

In western Poland the weather has been quite damp and hot. Summers here tend to have dry heat and that's what the weather was like earlier this week. Today the thermometer showed 28 degrees but it was really humid and partially cloudy. The day ended with a storm and heavy rainfall. My mom told me the entire summer has been like this: lots of rain and fluctuations of temperature between early 20ies to early 30ies Celsius. The rest of the week is supposed to be rainy, with temperatures around 22-24 degrees.

Italians even nicknamed actual heatwave LUCIFER  :

Swathes of southern and eastern Europe sweltered in temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius (104°F) on Friday in a heat wave nicknamed "Lucifer" that has fanned forest fires, triggered weather warning alerts and damaged crops.

Italy and the Balkans were worst affected, though areas as far north as southern Poland also basked in abnormally hot temperatures, and European weather hub Meteoalarm issued its highest grade "red" warnings for 10 countries.Wine growers in Italy have started gathering the grape harvest weeks earlier than usual due to the extreme heat.

snip

Carlo Petrini, founder of the Slow Food movement, wrote in La Stampa newspaper that the grape harvest had never started before Aug. 15 in living memory.

"The health of the grapes is severely tested by this weather," Petrini wrote, adding that growers ran the risk of finding the fruit "cooked by the sun and the burning heat".

Here in Serbia where I live weather starts to be unbearable!! The temperature has been above 40 degrees Celsius for more than a week and the decent rain wasn't fallen for a month. The earth is so dry that my foot can get into the holes. Trees began to throw away leaves, so my courtyard is full of dry leaves as if it were October. And it seems to me that sunflower and corn crops are on the verge of dying in the fields around my property.

Ironically, last winter when we had temperatures below -20°C for the whole month I wanted something like this, but it seems that today nothing is normal - everything is in extremes. Or it's too cold or too hot and dry.

Yes, where was that Lucifer during the last winter, when we really needed him?! They said that we will lose 525 millions of euros from crop failures because of this heat wave: http://www.novosti.rs/vesti/naslovna/ekonomija/aktuelno.239.html:679058-Susa-sa-nasih-njiva-obrala-letinu-vrednu-525-miliona-evra

I surely wish I was in Poland now. :/

@Yozilla: Where did you find that heat map? My favorite weather website just "upgraded" their heat maps which are now pretty useless, so I'm looking for some other website that has something like that.

I found this heat map on: _http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-app/weathercharts?LANG=en&CONT=euro

I Northern Italy we had a really hot week, with thermometers reaching 37-39 C° in the North and 40-43 C° in the South, it's not raining for too long, according to weather forcasts, the heatwave will continue till next week afterwhich there should fall some rain. So far this summer, at least in Italy, it was one of the hottest summers in many years...

Rain, rain, rain and more rain in Florida.

On Sunday, Gainesville broke a daily rainfall record that has stood for more than 100 years, McGinnis said. By 4 p.m. Sunday, the Gainesville area had seen 1.92 inches of rain, breaking the previous record of 1.68 inches.

“That was set back in 1890, which was the first year the Gainesville area started collecting observations,” he said.

McGinnis also said that this July saw enough rainfall — 16.7 inches — to break the previous record of 16.65 inches, which was set in 2013.

Most impressive, however, is that the area broke the previous record for the June-July-August period, which was set in 1965 at 32.55 inches of rainfall.

With a month and a day left to go in that three-month period, the Gainesville area already has seen 33.56 inches of rain, McGinnis said.

No tropical disturbances have affected the area, McGinnis said, so the high amount of rainfall can’t be blamed on that.

Thank you Andre, that looks nice. :)
I wonder if that is how things will look when the Ice Age comes. Maybe that heat wave from Africa will become constant and will save us (those areas who are under red color) from the polar ice.
