Will Smith's altercation at the Oscars

Certainly it can be agreed that the goings on of Hollyweird "stars" and fans is too vacuous to deserve any serious contemplation or a multi-page thread on this forum - sort of. "Pay attention right and left" comes to mind to me and that the goings on of Hollyweird and all it encompasses does have an impact upon society as the current battles involving school boards and government officials bears out. This short clip zeroes in on why this particular incident carries so much weight:

Megyn Kelly is joined by Richard Dreyfuss to talk about what Will Smith’s Oscars slap says about America, the lack of boundaries, the spiral of decay in the entertainment industry, and more.

Of course, it's entirely possible that this was a Masonic humiliation ritual such as has been pointed out in the past by Vigilant Citizen regarding a Taylor Swift music award. I just wonder who was the one being humiliated as it would seem Will has already been subjected to plenty of that by Jada and with a joke of same before the one that caused the uproar.

Ben Shapiro also pointing out the obvious (and that both he and his wife as public figures have received their share of "shots", amused or not) - can skip to 4:45 (long commercial before that):

Unless these are world class liars, Chris told the producer Will did indeed hit him (2:00):

Hmm - anyone giving even the slightest thought to Sean Penn and Zelensky's crusade to speak at the Oscars? The slap heard round the world took care of that!

Zelensky, whose career started in show business, pressed Hollywood for an appearance at the Oscars.

“We live in the modern world, and we know that opinion makers and celebrities are important,” said Ekaterine Zguladze, a former deputy minister of interior now involved in the Ukrainian government’s effort to win support from artists, musicians and celebrities. “Not only politicians shape the world.”

Ms. Zguladze added: “Right now, there exists genuine solidarity around the world for Ukraine. And this solidarity is not because of the heartbreaking images of destroyed cities and human tragedy, but because of the values we all share.”

But Ukraine’s appeal to the academy, the organization that awards the Oscars, encountered drama of its own.

Before the show, organizers said the war would be noted and the human toll honored, but did not commit to a video appearance by Mr. Zelensky, said Brian Keith Etheridge, a sitcom writer based in Los Angeles. He helped coordinate the Ukrainian government’s outreach to the academy, with help from Mila Kunis, an actress of Ukrainian origin, and her husband, Ashton Kutcher.

“The concern that we were told is, they don’t want to overly politicize the show,” Mr. Etheridge said. “If Zelensky just says ‘thank you’ it will remind people, and it could raise millions of dollars. It’s such a giant platform just to have his face show up.”

Sean Penn, who had been filming a documentary in Ukraine when the war broke out, called for a boycott of the Oscars if Mr. Zelensky is not permitted to appear by video and vowed to smelt his own awards if the academy snubs the Ukrainian leader. The award statues are made of gold-plated bronze.

If the Oscar producers did not allow an appearance for “the leadership in Ukraine, who are taking bullets and bombs for us, along with the Ukrainian children that they are trying to protect, then I think every single one of those people, and every bit of that decision, will have been the most obscene moment in all of Hollywood history,” Mr. Penn told CNN in an interview.

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, the producers said they intended to commemorate the war’s toll but did not commit to a video appearance by Mr. Zelensky.

Let the smelting begin! :rotfl:

I expect this is unlikely to be some sort of contemporary degenerative phenomena. This is extremely well-documented behaviour in psychoanalytics and is an innate possibility for us all. In addition to displacement and regression, Will also shows us denial and rationalization.
My musings about loss of frontal lobe regulation is relating to the question of whether this could be a phenomenon of the current times, i.e. effects of the approaching wave? It’s just a question that arose in my mind observing peoples behaviour. Some politicians public behaviours are pretty strange these days also. Like they don’t not know what how to keep their veils up anymore, their true natures being exposed. Rather than any speculation of a physiological degeneration. To walk up on stage at the Oscars and smack someone is pretty blimmin weird. That wasn’t an impulsive reaction, he had all that time he was walking up there to stop himself, even if he was fuming mad. Also he was not responding to the actual supposed GIJane joke his response was “get my wife’s name out of your ... mouth”. He was mad about something else that likely we don’t know about or can only speculate on.

And to be honest I opened the thread with another purpose in mind (even though I used the Will Smith issue as example to discuss) than to discuss if this was a real event or staged, although there has been some useful post about human behavior and the overall state of the world.

You'll get no argument from me about how weird it is to do that on live television, of all places!! It's blimmin weird, as you say. I do find it somewhat believable that he would blatantly subject a witness/witnesses to a radical inversion of power by assaulting the person who triggers his defenses (or Jada's defenses, if not his, which again mirrors the trauma he holds from his mother's assault). Once at the Oscars, but also on the street 10 years prior in front of reporters and cameras when some random person made a play to express sexual dominance by planting a big kiss on him without consent (feminising him, incidentally, and subordinating him not just unconsentually but also via gender)(witnesses again are a key factor). Just like he was forced to witness his father's violent dominance, which he says in that article is a crime he cannot shake to this day. No retribution has thus far been sufficient, in other words. His guilt is unquenchable. And this is not an abnormal frame of mind. Many people live from these places of trauma and displaced aggression. None the less, it certainly is speculation! Not uninformed speculation, mind you, nor baseless. I'm quite pleased with this read. Maybe not as fun as the theory about the Smiths and Chris Rock teaming up with Pfizer to sell Alopecia medication. Hah.

Well, it could be that this event had aspects to it on several levels of reality.
At one level it was real with Will acting on impulse after looking over at his wife and possibly from the fear of her rejecting him for not acting like a "man", and wanting to be accepted by her (which will probably never happen!) went into mindless macho mode to defend her honor.

At another level it could have been a fantasy in Will's mind (based on some characters he potrayed in his movies) that became real in his mind and the two together prompted him to his bizzare action. In other words it was an action that was surreal, a mixture of fact and dream fantasy, an irrational reality entering into our ordinary reality by the power of a violent act.

The unexpectedness of the event may of indicated influences of a hyperdimensional nature where reality and dream fantasy kinda become blurred.

But I still don't know!

Really no idea if this "event" of Will slapping Chris has any real significance such as the death of Princess Diana did - is it a marker on some cosmic level or just the excesses of Hollyweird programming - but it has elicited plenty of comments from those who have viewed the multitudes of vids this event has propagated with the majority consensus being that Will was clearly in the wrong and Chris being an exemplary example of self-restraint, professionalism, and just plain what a real man should be.

Most know by now that Will has resigned from the Academy since certain Academy disciplinary punishment was imminent. Denzel Washington is sticking to "the devil made him do it" explanation with some indicating that the "devil" is, in fact, Jada. From comments:
  • Initially, Will was laughing at the joke. It was no problem to him. Then he saw Jada face, and he realized “uh oh i have to do something or i will be in big trouble for laughing” Clearly, Jada really got in to his head at that moment not devil
  • isnt it the same thing? I mean she is lovely, but as of late it has been reported that she bragged in public about having a relationship with her sons friend, and said she had an open marriage. so that Is the devil
  • Clearly, it was a very selfish move by Jada. Many women use wigs, and don’t make a big deal about it. Again, men have to face the same condition and get on with their lives w/o fussing about it. Extreme feminist privilege is the devil! Much love and respect for Chris Rock.
  • "The devil got a hold of him for whatever reason". He's talking about Jada, he just doesn't want to say it on camera. You'll never hear of Denzel's wife disrespecting, embarrassing and emasculating him.
It's also being said there was bad blood between the Smith's and Chris from the 2016 Academy Awards that the Smith's boycotted supposedly over the "lack of diversity" - never mind that neither were nominated for any award - and that Chris particularly targeted Jada with his jokes:
No. I am tired of hearing this excuse. Jada and Will are both wrong. You can't put what Will did in Jada's hands though. Will and Jada, IMO, both have had hatred for Chris for a while now. Chris was the one who made a fool out of them when they were boycotting the awards back in 2016 because they didn't get nominated. They tried to say it was for the black people, but they are only fooling themselves. Instead of being happy that Chris had such an important role they demanded he step down. Will most likely was just laughing to save face or for the sake of laughing. A lot of people fake their laughter and their happiness. Like when you go to a party you don't really want to go and you put on your fakest smile because you don't want to cause any trouble within your family. Will thought it would be socially acceptable among his peers to slap Chris and it was. Nobody checked on him and everyone congratulated Will. Will didn't take into account the mass of people who would see otherwise. Now all of those people turn on Will.

Will Smith confirms he won't attend Oscars in row over lack of diversity

The Men in Black actor says an all-white best-actor nomination list makes attending the Academy Awards ‘awkward’
Will Smith has confirmed he will not be attending next month’s Oscars, joining his wife Jada Pinkett Smith in a boycott over the Academy Awards’ all-white nominee list.

Smith, speaking on Good Morning America, said that diversity is “the American superpower” and that attending the Oscars, given the lack of it among this year’s nominated performers, would be “awkward”.

“So many different people from so many different places adding their ideas to this beautiful American gumbo,” he said. “At its best, Hollywood represents and creates the imagery for that beauty. But for my part, I think I have to protect and fight for the ideals that make our country – and make our Hollywood community – great.”
[...]
Meanwhile, Smith’s former co-star on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Janet Hubert, has again criticised the boycott. Hubert, who played Aunt Viv on the popular comedy, has accused Pinkett Smith of being “a pretend freedom fighter”.

“The Smiths just irked me because they are such pretenders, and everything is a photo op,” she told the LA Times. “It’s just self-contrived because her hubby didn’t get a nomination.”

Hubert had previously called out Pinkett Smith for losing perspective.

“People are dying, being shot left and right, people are hungry, people are trying to pay bills — and you’re talking about actors and Oscars,” she said. “It just ain’t that deep”.
Kudos to Aunt Viv!

Chris Rock Actually Made Fun Of Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith At The 2016 Oscars Too (VIDEO)
The literal smackdown between Chris Rock and Will Smith at the 2022 Oscars has people talking, but it's not the first time the comedian has gone after Jada Pinkett Smith at the award show.

During his opening monologue, Rock addressed the couple in particular.
[@2:37]

Chris addressed the issue of Hollywood racism as well and six years later, the pendulum has definitely swung the other way - watched any tv commercials lately?

As to Jada, six years seems to be a long time to hold a grudge and what does it say about her hysterically laughing at Will smacking Chris - clip of that too. And I did see the clip in which she and Will were referenced about their "open" marriage. They were laughing their a**es off for that one, but somehow G.I. Jane 2 was just too much. Well, there are several vids about her being a narcissist and she admitted to being one in 2019. And four days before the show she expressed on TikTok, “I don’t give two craps what people think about this bald head of mine, because guess what? I love it.” Quite the toxic marital pair and their offspring certainly reflect their celeb parenting.

So the latest development:

Well, you know, people are probably eating this up because it's temporarily displaced Covid, Biden, Hunter, and Ukraine from their consciousness. Maybe just a way to get back to the old normal of fixating on nonconsequential, frivolous drama of celebrity worshipees!

Smith is a simp and braindead, she cheated on him and he just put it under the rug in that video clip between them when he should have confronted her and she being manipulative and probably a narcissist.

A short update on this little drama: Jada has revealed ahead of the publication of her memoir that her and Will have actually been separated and in an open relationship since 2016. Which makes the Oscars drama even more pathetic. Seriously, couldn't she at least keep her mouth shut on that one to spare him the shame?

There are plenty of news stories about that, but in case anyone prefers to hear that from the horse's mouth, here's a snipped from an interview with Jada. The excerpt is question starts at 0:37 and ends at around minute. I wonder if the decision to stay together but lead separate lives is a result of their income being tied to their public image. Many of those showbiz relationships are also money-making enterprises.

In a way, I can understand why she's been a difficult partner, her early life wasn't exactly easy and a lot of her behavioural and emotional patters originate there. And the fact that Will is a bit of doormat isn't helping her control that. But dang, it's really cringey to watch him tolerate her "entanglements" and whatnot, especially with her ongoing obsession with Tupac added to the mix.

I don't know if it's true or not but I read somewhere that she wants a divorce but he doesn't hence this whole situation. The speculation is that he doesn't have a prenup so she'll get half the wealth. All speculation though 🤷

It may just be me, but half of that kind of wealth is a real bargain to free oneself from this kind of oblivious toxicity. Heck, I bumped into an interview with her where she said she was crying walking down the isle because she didn't want to marry Will

Was wondering why the Onion had an article on her!

Her daughter wrote a letter to Tupac. It’s clear this personality disorder riddled Wife, mother and being tips the scale to unhealthy/entropy/trauma.

They say if you give the blood of young rats to older they become younger, they say if younger cells in mass are around a few older cells the older cells start to act younger. It is also known that negativity, trauma, disorders attached to another or in proximity often to another being that being becomes, emulates, mimics, morphs to or with the overtly traumatized person especially if there is lack of awareness and knowledge. I am not pointing a finger or saying right or wrong just using info I have gained and what I know. If Someone has a personality disorder/anti social and they are in close proximity/relationship to someone more baseline that doesn’t have knowledge awareness the entropy takes over, changes, molds, spreads…

The daughter is not writing a letter to 2pac under Wills influence

00:01-03:50

Also, LA PD last month publicized they identified 2pac killer then few weeks later Jada pops up.
