I don't think there is any possible way of knowing who is or isn't an OP. I've been thinking about what Laura said and it makes sense that everyone is an OP until they choose otherwise and start working on themselves. I mean if we are all conductors of signals so to speak then if we aren't consciously aware of ourselves then we are basically just portals for whatever signal we happen to pick up at that moment. What ever "I" or otherworldly entity who feels like "having a shot" can just tune in and off they go.
Until you learn to keep your radio dial on a single signal, your true signal then you are just this organic aerial going through the motions where things just "happen" to you.
So no, I don't think it's impossible to progress if you are with an OP, for folks starting out they are just a couple of OP's together. From there, anything is possible.
