If you could have a theme song, what would it be?

I picked this one:

Flashlight Brown said:
staying in, fading fast
call some friends, have a laugh
about the things we used to think were coming

story's same, nothing fits
get in late, call it quits
just as my paranoia comes to feed me

i'm a human just like you
full of doubt without a clue
try and find a way to make it better

get a call from the girl
she's in town, but i'm a bore, so it won't make a difference
call me next time

lazy days, empty nights
i'm alone, but that's alright, i'm taking over this world on my own time

i'm a human just like you
full of doubt without a clue
trying to find a way to make it better

i'm a curse and so are you
not so rich and not too smooth
help me find a way to make it better

staying in, going mad
made a choice, won't look back
its just another day, and i'm still breathing

i'm a human just like you
full of doubt without a clue
try and find a way to make it better

i'm a curse and so are you
not so rich and not too smooth
try find a way to make it better

trying to find a way to make it better
help me find a way to make it better

This one is pretty good, especially for a beat-boppy kind of song, which I typically don't like. The lyrics paint a rebelious sort of picture - going against the system. Which makes sense since this song was on the 'Hackers' movie soundtrack. I wouldn't call it my theme song, but here it is anyway

(...puts on his parachute ...)

Stereo MCs : Connected

Ah AH Ah ah
Something here ain't right
I'm gonna get myself
I'm gonna get myself
I'm gonna get myself connected
I ain't gonna go blind

For the light which is reflected
I see through you
I see through you
I see through you
I see through you

Your dirty tricks, you make me sick
I see through you
I see through you
I'm gonna do it again
I'm gonna do it again

Ah
I'm gonna do it again
Gotta do right
'Cause something here ain't right
Gotta do right

Come on

If you make sure you're connected
The writing's on the wall
But if your mind's neglected
Stumble you might fall
Stumble you might fall

Hear me out

Stumble you might fall

Interstate 5, stayin' alive
Won't someone try, open up your eyes?
You must be blind, if you can't see
This gaping hole called reality

Wanna do it again
I gonna gonna do it again
I wanna do it again
Come on
I'm gonna do it again

Hear me out
Terrified
Something ain't right

Here we go

If you make sure you're connected
The writing's on the wall
But if your mind's neglected
Stumble you might fall
Stumble you might fall
Stumble you might fall

LMAO, Stereo MCs, I love that song by the way, Lillard most quotable quote "Spandex, it's a privilege, not a right!"

The song takes me back, as does Hackers. Funny quote atreides

so much music to choose from...
well, the first thing that comes to mind is 'Break On Through (To The Other Side)' by my fav. band, The Doors

You know the day destroys the night
Night divides the day
Tried to run
Tried to hide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side, yeah

We chased our pleasures here
Dug our treasures there
But can you still recall
The time we cried
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side

Yeah!
C'mon, yeah

Everybody loves my baby
Everybody loves my baby
She get
She get
She get
She get high

I found an island in your arms
Country in your eyes
Arms that chain us
Eyes that lie
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through, oww!
Oh, yeah!

Made the scene
Week to week
Day to day
Hour to hour
The gate is straight
Deep and wide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
and another one would be
Thievery Corporation - Marching The Hate Machines Into The Sun
(from their highly recommendable album 'The Cosmic Game')
We'll let's start now
Making it clear
Who is the enemy, here
And we'll show them
That it's not them
Who is superior

So let's start now
Making it clear
Who is the enemy, here
And we'll show them
That it's not them
Who is superior

It's gonna be bad
It's gonna be wrong
It's gonna feel, good

Marching the hate machines into the sun
Marching the hate machines into the sun

We'll lets start now
Making it clear
Who is the enemy, here
And we'll show them
That it's not them
Who is superior

Marching the hate machines into the sun
Marching the hate machines into the sun
Marching the hate machines into the sun
Marching the hate machines into the sun
(i know, reading lyrics without knowing the song sucks! ;-) )

It seems sometimes that I have many theme songs, one for each of my "I's" :D
But there is one song that I will always hold as my deep signiture.

Tasmin Archer
Sleeping satellite

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I blame you for the moonlit sky
and the dream that died
with the eagles flight
I blame you for the moonlit nights
when I wonder why
are the seas still dry?
don't blame this sleeping satellite

did we fly to the moon too soon?
did we squander the chance?
in the rush of the race
the reason we chase is lost in romance
and still we try
to justify the waste
for a taste of man's gratest adventure

I blame you for the moonlit sky
and the dream that died
with the eagles flight
I blame you for the moonlit nights
when I wonder why
are the seas still dry?
don't blame this sleeping satellite

have we got what it takes to advance?
have we peak too soon?
if the world is so great
then why does it scream under a blue moon?
we wonder why
if the earth's sacrificed
for the price of its greatest treasure

I blame you for the moonlit sky
and the dream that died
with the eagles flight
I blame you for the moonlit nights
when I wonder why
are the seas still dry?
don't blame this sleeping satellite

and when we shoot for the stars
what a giant step
have we got what it takes
to carry the weight of this concept?
or pass it by
like a shot in the dark
miss the mark with a sense of adventure

I blame you for the moonlit sky
and the dream that died
with the eagles flight
I blame you for the moonlit nights
when I wonder why
are the seas still dry?
don't blame this sleeping satellite

Reading your title atreides turned this song on in my head:

Elton John said:
It's a little bit funny this feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money but boy if I did
I'd buy a big house where we both could live

If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a travelling show
I know it's not much but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song and this one's for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well a few of the verses well they've got me quite cross
But the sun's been quite kind while I wrote this song
It's for people like you that keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting but these things I do
You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen
My theme song is this:

Pink Floyd said:
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

BORN UNDER A WANDERIN' STAR

I was born under a wanderin' star.
I was born under a wanderin' star.

Wheels are made for rollin', mules are made to pack.
I've never seen a site that didn't look better lookin' back.

I was born under a wanderin' star.

Mud can make you prisoner and the plains can bake you dry.
Snow can burn your eyes but only people make you cry.
Home is made for comin' from, for dreams of goin' to.
Which with any luck will never come true.

I was born under a wanderin' star.
I was born under a wanderin' star.

Do I know where hell is, hell is in hell-o.
Heaven is good-bye forever it's time for me to go.

I was born under a wanderin' star, a wanderin', wanderin' star.

Mud can make you prisoner and the plains can bake you dry.
Snow can burn your eyes but only people make you cry.
Home is made for comin' from, for dreams of goin' to.
Which with any luck will never come true.

I was born under a wanderin' star.
I was born under a wanderin' star.

When I get to heaven tie me to a tree.
Or I'll begin to roam and soon you'll know where I will be.

I was born under a wanderin' star.
A wanderin', wanderin' star.

Yeah, I've strongly identified with "Wish You Were Here" more than a few times! Don't know if I'd call it "my song" though. I've had quite a number of songs in the past, but don't feel I have a specific one at the moment.

Here's a couple:
Faith No More - "Falling To Pieces"
Jon Andersen & Vangelis - "Somehow I'll find my Way Home"
Vast - "Here"
Pink Floyd - "High Hopes"
The Eagles - "Hotel California"

Flippin' stations the other night I heard an interesting one that I'd forgotten:

Shock The Monkey, by Peter Gabriel - circa 1982

Video at YouTube

Cover me,
When I run

Cover me,
Through the fire

Something knocked me out the trees
And now I'm on my knees

Cover me,
Darling please

Hey hey-ah a hey hey monkey, monkey,
Don't you know when you're going to shock the monkey

Hey hey

Fox the fox
Rat of a rat

You can ape the ape
I know about that

There’s just one thing you must be sure of
I can't take any more

Darling,
Don't you monkey with the monkey

Hey hey-ah a hey hey, monkey, monkeEEEEEE, monkey,
Don't you know you're gonna,
Shock the monkey

Hey hey

Shock the monkey

Hey hey-ah a hey hey heyaaa

Monkey,
Wheels keep turning

Ah monkeeeeeeeeeeeee
Something's burnin

Monkey
Don't like it but I guess I'm learning

Shock!
Shock!
Shock!
Watch the monkey get hurt, monkey

Cover me,
When I sleep

Cover me,
When I breathe

You throw your pearls before the swine
Make the monkey blind!

Cover me,
Darlin’ please

Hey hey-ah hey hey hey-ah

Monkey,
Too much at stake

Ah monkeeeeeeeeeeee
World beneath me shakes

Monkey
And the news is breaking

Shock!
Shock!
Shock!

Watch the monkey get hurt
Monkey

Shock the monkey
Shock the monkey

Shock the monkey to life
Shock the monkey to life
Shock the monkey to life
Shock the monkey to life
Shock the monkey to life

Shock the monkey
SHOCK the MONKEY
Shock the monkey
SHOCK the MONKEY

Shock the monkey

Shock the monkey to life

the theme song I would chose for my mortal life unfortunatelly doesnt have any lyrics, it is instrumental by Chicane called
Halycon

for immortal life
Andromeda by Chicane

and as far as motivational lyrics go, then it would definitely be this little song, again by Chicane this time featuring Brian Adams

don't worry if the sun don't shine
you've seen it before you don't have to worry
everyday's an uphill climb - nothing has changed
believe me when i tell ya

don't give it up - don't give it up...

don't give up - ya know it's true
gotta do what you wanna do
don't give up - you don't have to
gotta do what you wanna do
don't give up - ya know it's true
gotta do what you wanna do

I like this song or other stuff by Chicane!
My favorite is "No ordinary morning" or "Offshore"...

edit: apparently Halcyon is a part of No ordinary morning ;)
from wiki:
Halcyon" is a trance song by British DJ and trance artist Chicane, pseudonym of Nick Bracegirdle. It is the 5th track of his second album Behind the Sun and also part of the "No Ordinary Morning" / "Halcyon" double A-side CD single – the third released from the album.

yea the whole album is a long time runner

menangles trivia and coincidence or subtle clue?:

those two track have been following me for number of years and just recently I discovered that helikon is the greek mountain thought to be home of Pegasus
which together with Andromeda - horse's navel
and you ve got the connection with Perseus :)

Analyse by Thom Yorke

A self-fulfilling prophecy
Of endless possibility
You roll in reams across the street
In algebra, in algebra

The fences that you cannot climb
The sentences that do not rhyme
In all that you can ever change
The one you're looking for

It gets you down
It gets you down

There's no spark
No light in the dark

It gets you down
It gets you down
You traveled far
What have you found
That there's no time
There's no time

To analyse
To think things through
To make sense

Like cows in the city,
They never looked so pretty
By power cuts and blackouts
Sleeping like babies

It gets you down
It gets you down
You're just playing a part
You're just playing a part

You're playing a part
Playing a part
And there's no time
There's no time
To analyse

MASSIVE ATTACK

"Hymn of the Big Wheel"

The big wheel keeps on turning
On a simple line day by day
The earth spins on its axis
One man struggle while another relaxes

There's a hole in my soul like a cavity
Seems like the world is out to gather just by gravity
The wheel keeps turning the sky's rearranging
Look my son the weather is changing

I'd like to feel that you could be free
Look up at the blue skies beneath a new tree
Sometime again
You'll turn green and the sea turns red
My son I said the power of axis over my head
The big wheel keeps on turning
On a simple line day by day
The earth spins on its axis
One man struggle while another relaxes

We sang about the sun and danced among the trees
And we listened to the whisper of the city on the breeze
Will you cry in the most in a lead-free zone
Down within the shadows where the factories drone
On the surface of the wheel they build another town
And so the green come tumbling down
Yes close your eyes and hold me tight
And i'll show you sunset sometime again

The big wheel keeps on turning
On a simple line day by day
The earth spins on its axis
One man struggle while another relaxes
As a child's silent prayer my hope hides in disguise
While satellites and cameras watch from the skies
An acid drop of rain recycled from the sea
It washed away my shadow burnt a hole in me
And all the king's men cannot put it back again
But the ghetto sun will nurture life
And mend my soul sometime again

The big wheel keeps on turning
On a simple line day by day
The earth spins on its axis
One man struggle while another relaxes
