Earthquake of 6.4 shakes Guatemala and is felt in Chiapas, Mexico

The tremor, which originated at a depth of 256 kilometers, was felt in southern Mexico and El Salvador, authorities said.

The epicenter was located in the department of Totonicapán, 78 kilometers northwest of the Guatemalan capital and about 100 kilometers east of the Mexican border, according to USGS data.

No damage or casualties have been reported so far.

Then we had a lunar peak on the 17th which was also announced in the previous update and coincided with the M6.4 earthquake in Guatemala.

What can we expect next week? We see a clustering of critical planetary geometry on the 20th and 21st including a lunar geometry

Following the lunar peak on 17 May, there is still a slight possibility of larger seismic activity today. Increased seismic activity is likely to occur 20-21 May Typically above M5.6. A larger seismic event may occur around 22 May that could reach M6.5 and in the worst case higher than M6.5. Much depends on the condition of the earth's crust and the stress between faults.

According to Analyst Jesus Ramos, the energy from the Loyalty Islands earthquakes is directed towards the Americas, mainly central Chile, Central America and Central Mexico but also towards Indonesia, Japan, Kamchatka and Alaska.

The M7.7 Loyalty Islands earthquake was the second strongest of the year after the M7.8 earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

According to Ka-tet's forecast for the next 7-10 days is likely:

● Indonesia at worst case M6+.
● Japan and Kamchatka Peninsula M6+ worst case scenario M7.2
● Central and southern Chile M6.5 worst case M7+ (Concepción and Constitución area)
