High levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24 hours. A very strong magnitude 6.5 earthquake occurred in the Philippine Sea 144 km from Japan. The quake had a great depth of 503 km. The closest larger town where the quake might have been felt is Futami, a town with 897 inhabitants in Japan, in 273 km distance east of the epicenter.
