5th of November - V For Vendetta Day!

Today will be only the second time that I've watched it. The first viewing was in my "ignorance days" & Hugo Weaving gave a real quality performance, but something was off in that movie that made it drag...

You know, this last viewing is the first time I realized what a terrible job Natalie Portman actually did in this movie. I was just so enamored of all the rest of the movie, and the incredible job that Hugo Weaving did playing a man behind a mask that I ignored her totally asinine delivery of lines.

I agree, her work in V for Vendetta actually somewhat distracts from the general brilliance of the movie, imo. I remember reading that for the movie to get off the ground, a "name" actress was required by the studio, and Natalie Portman must have appeared to be a good candidate to pull in the crowds for this type of film, after having starred in the Star Wars prequels.

I have wondered why she is regarded as such a great actress, as in the movies I have seen her in, her acting seems to leave a lot to be desired. Of course I haven't seen all of her movies, and it has to be said that she did a good job in Black Swan.

That's probably why! And I think Hayden Christensen's "acting" made her seem better in those prequels (can't for the life of me imagine why though) which might have enabled her to get roles that would've suited better actors. The same for "Aniken" as well. (yawn) "Jumper" & whatever else he did.

Just noticed I never posted in this thread, though I've joined in in watching the previous year, and perhaps (don't remember the date) the year before that. Anyway, I'm off to have a watch.

After all, this is one thing that shall never, ever be forgot! :v:

We watched Evey and V last night on the eve :P

One question I have from watching it again: how come Delia knows upon seeing the scarlet rose that it is from V?

It's been a long while since I read the graphic novel, is it explained there? I don't have it with me to check.

According to this website:
As for the roses, in the original comic book, in order to keep him compliant during his time in captivity, V was allowed to tend a small garden while his health was monitored. It was during that time that he first grew the Scarlet Carson roses and also surreptitiously obtained the chemicals that he would use to destroy Larkhill and make his escape. Whether this can be considered consistent with the film storyline is an open question - certainly nothing in the film actively appears to contradict it.

I'm about to go and watch it again as well but I never read the graphic novel. Happy :v: Day everyone!

And oh, yes, that bacon sounds just perfect! In fact, it's perfect for any and every occasion! :D
