can somebody explain to me what's "V For Vendetta Day" Huh?
V For Vendetta is a film. The main character known as V wears a mask. The mask represents Guy fawkes a man who tried to blow up British Parliament a very very long time ago.
In England on the 5th November people build Bonfires and burn an effigy of Guy Fawkes. There is a lot more to this and the film , but if you do a search on youtube you should be able to get an idea from film clips of V For Vendetta.
Im also sure some one will answer your question much better. V
Pashalis,
It's not that the people are celebrating the fact that Mr Fawkes tried to blow up Parliament or advocating such things, in fact the original spirit of 5th Nov commemorates the fact that he failed - (hence burning his effigy)
I's more about the people working together to stand up for themselves against oppression and state psychopaths
A (perhaps paraphrased a little) quote from the film being "People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people"
It's also a great film.
I was brought up in a Catholic family as a kid, and I could never get in to the spirit of 5th November as a child.
I always used to think " why would I want to celebrate the fact that one of our lot got caught and had his head chopped off?
So I was always a bit "Ba-humbug" about" the whole thing.
Then as I got older, I was cynical about the fact the UK was desperate to have an excuse for a Fireworks Night! After all the US have 4th of July and the French have the 14th July - and I think the Brits were a little jealous so clutching at straws picked 5th November to burn things and let off Fireworks!
Still, now, since "V" I think at last, we have a great excuse for a party!

PS I enjoyed Anotnia Frasers Book on the subject : The Gunpowder Plot: Terror and Faith in 1605
and here's a wiki link about the origins of the event :
