The movie seems very violent and violence is not really my preferred genre. However, if I can get my friend (who is a member of this forum) to watch it with me and perhaps explain the parts I am bound to misinterpret, then I will watch it. Because if I watch it by myself I guarantee you I will interpret it as "fear."
"When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty." -Thomas Jefferson

I don't really care for Thomas Jefferson. However, Stephen Dillane AS Thomas Jefferson, yes! :)

Hi Connie,

Just a note that if you don't like the movie, or don't want to watch the movie, then don't. It's a movie - if it doesn't interest you, then don't watch it. As V would say, artists use lies to tell the truth and politicians use lies to hide it. This movie is a story told (a lie) that tells the truth - in that is its value - but if it's not your thing, then don't watch.

FB profil changed.

Too late to go and rent the movie today, so I will do it tomorrow morning and watch it on 5-th Nov. Australian time :P.

Hi sitta,

Did you mean to say 6th of November? Over here in New Zealand, it's the 6th morning and Australia's eastern most cities like Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, etc would already be on the same date as well. Over on the western coast of Australia, like in Perth for example, it's just 5 minutes past midnight on the 6th. I watched it last night (5th November local time here). :v:

Thanks anart. It's not about my liking the movie or not really (I don't care for violent movies but if there is a profound point to be made I'll sit through one). It is about my understanding fear. At this moment I don't understand it very well obviously because I am not able to define it or make distinctions and that is based soley on my conditioning and social circumstances. I acknowledge that.

Besides with all those English actors in this movie (besides Natalie Portman) it is bound to have some fantastic acting in it. And the dates (November 4th and 5th) have significance for me. I'll watch it. I'm not one to hide in my "comfort zone(s)."

Thanks to all for your replies.

How is the fear delivered to the masses via the media and governments any different than the fear presented by the character in this movie? Fear is fear to me. I don't see the difference. What am I missing?

Sometimes fear may really be repressed excitement at an opportunity to experience and learn something new! If fear is experienced in the safe context of watching a mere movie, maybe there's an opportunity to rewire the brain with new understandings? :)

...using thinking to overcome emotion is like using a back road or side street from the cortex, while the amygdala is bombarding the cortex with input via the superhighways. [LeDoux, 1999]

But thinking with the cortex, it turns out, is basically a way to rewire your brain. It is like working on the back roads to develop them into the commanding interstate system of the brain they were meant to be. Research shows that changes in the brain are the result of learning experiences, and it seems that learning - acquiring knowledge - is the path of rewiring the synaptic connections in the brain.[/quote]

Thanks for that Bud! I really enjoyed reading that. I'm very interested in the study of neurophysiology and learning about how the human brain really works.

Connie, you'll like the movie! I don't like violent movies either, but this one has such a powerful message that the violence in it is part of the context that is necessary.

Ah your right! :-[
I should have checked it before posting. I thought that Australia (from GTM +8 to +10) was in GTM - 11 zone.

It looks like I will watch it with residents from USA.

Today i created a topic named : " Remember,Remember the fifth of November " on a moldavian forum ( russian and romanian native languages) where i related the story of the Guy Fawkes and how its actions could and may inspire millions if not billions of people to awake and take actions and see what he saw and feel what he felt and i placed a link to the original article on sott.net : http://www.sott.net/articles/show/143102-Happy-Counterterrorism-Day ,after a couple of hours when i checked i saw a hundred visits and a few comments left from users that told that the information was useful, i was very glad of that ,a pleasant experience of sharing with others :)

Andrian, that's inspiring. When I think about it, a single candle in the dark might not seem like much to some people, but y'know, the darker it is, the further that light might shine, I think. :)

I happily own a copy of V for Vendetta, and I watched it again tonight. For me it remains an inspiring story and a message of hope that together we can stand up to the powers that be and create a new, just and human world.

Too bad that out of the 16 friends I invited (though late in the afternoon) not one showed up to watch with me... :(
Thankfully I knew that some of you guys were probably watching at the same time, at least that's something.

Happy Guy Fawkes day everyone.
