Knowing that you found the right partner is already a thing, making it official, special and sacred is wonderful.
As a woman, I realize that a proposal is a symbol of a great commitment from a man. This is something we tend to lose in those times when materialism and nihilism are taking out from people the least of faith they have.
This is all symbolic of course, but isn't everything symbolic ?
