Body odor

When I don't use soap, but only bathing salt, made of sea salt, almond oil, and some essential oils (whatever I like the smell of) I don't need to use deodorant, and don't get bad smell (at least not when showering once a day) but when I use soap, from day 1 (I've tried several times, when running out of bathing salt) , I start to smell 3-5 hours after the shower. I don't know if this only works for me, or why it works, but perhaps it is worth a try

Didn't realize I had written this thread, but I have the same problem now. It's just one armpit though. So I think it's bacterial or fungal. I've tried both peroxide and colloidal silver and I highly do not recommend that! The die off will smell worse. I tried rubbing with baking soda too and that doesn't work.

I don't want to shave my armpits, so I figured some kind of soap would work. I got this Katialis medicated soap with zinc and salicylic acid, but haven't used it yet. I can't find the inactive ingredients and the box doesn't list them. Maybe I could just try it for a few days? I guess I'm just wondering how much bad stuff is in it, but it may be not a big deal if it actually works. Any ideas or recommendations on these kinds of soaps?

I started using African black soap several months back and I really can’t recommend it enough. It seems to tackle all kinds of skin issues and kind enough to use on very sensitive areas where other soaps are forbidden.
It has antibacterial properties and often used to treat smelly pits and other bacterial issues of the skin like acne, it works incredibly well as a moisturiser too unlike some other soaps which can dry the skin.

AI overview of ingredients and benefits:

Authentic African black soap is a natural, plant-based cleanser traditionally handmade in West Africa from dried plantain skins, cocoa pods, palm tree leaves, and palm kernel oil. Key ingredients include unrefined shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, and water. It is renowned for its moisturizing, exfoliating, and cleansing properties, often featuring a raw, crumbly texture.
Key Ingredients and Components
  • Plant-Based Ashes: These provide the soap's distinct color and detoxifying properties, usually from plantain skins, cocoa pods, or palm tree leaves.
  • Oils and Butters: Primarily raw, unrefined shea butter (often 50% or more), coconut oil, and palm kernel oil.
  • Plantain Skins/Extract: A natural source of vitamins A, E, and iron.
  • Water: Used to activate the ashes and turn them into a lye solution.
  • Optional Additives: Some versions may include Aloe Vera, shea tree bark, or essential oils for added aroma and skincare benefits.
Characteristics
  • Texture: Soft, crumbly, and pliable.
  • Color: Varies from light brown to deep black.
  • Scent: Earthy and, in its raw form, has a very neutral odor.
The traditional, slow-processed method of using potash derived from plant ash creates a natural, gentle, and effective soap.

African black soap is a natural, highly effective antibacterial agent that combats acne, treats skin infections, and reduces inflammation, often outperforming conventional medicated cleansers. It deep-cleanses by removing, rather than just masking, bacteria, making it ideal for managing oily, acne-prone, or sensitive skin.
Key Antibacterial and Skin Benefits
  • Combats Acne & Infections: It is effective against bacteria like Staphylococcus and Streptococcus, which cause skin diseases. It also helps with razor bumps and, when added with ingredients like lime or tea tree, can treat stubborn skin conditions.
  • Deep Cleansing & Exfoliation: The natural ashes in the soap provide gentle exfoliation, removing dead skin cells and preventing clogged pores.
  • Soothes Inflammation: In addition to killing bacteria, its ingredients (like shea butter) soothe redness and irritation from conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
  • Safe for Sensitive Skin: It is typically fragrance-free and, despite its strength against bacteria, it is generally gentle on the skin.

Deo (deodorant)? I‘m pretty sure that there are brands out there that have few if any bad things in them if that is what concerns you.

So I think it's bacterial or fungal.
In that case, I would go to the dermatologist and get a cream with antibiotic and antifungal properties. After the spread has been contained then you can research what caused it.

In the meant time, until you find a doctor, first thing that comes to mind is to make a solution with Potassium permanganate (see i.e. how solutions should look like here) and put it in a small spray bottle and apply it directly on affected areas.

Hope you will be better soon!
